CHAPTER 4 JUDE'S POV A FATE IMPOSSIBLE TO ESCAPE Slowly I turned and she was listening. A smile spread on my face. She froze for a moment. Watching her smoulder in fear, a light smile on my face disappear. Let's see what she was going to do. She heard everything I said. I turned to her, her trembling hands still evident but composed. “Why are you trembling?” I asked, my gaze fixated on her. She shook her head. “Nothing,” she said. Putting the food before me. She stood by the side watching me eat. I could feel her gaze burning deep into my face. “Aren't you hungry?” I said observing her. Gently she walked over. Her hands clinched. She sat. Not disturbing even the air. I watched her cut through the food softly. I chuckled softly, “Is that how you will cut who wants you dead?” My eyes fixed on her. Her body vibrated, stared at me believably. Her hand paused in its action. “Sorry I was just joking” I said, calm and soft. She smiled weirdly. Then her face frowned. Gently I stretched my hand. Somehow our hands greased against each other's. She froze and withdrew her hands. A gentle smile creased on my face. She bent her head. Then she said, “I will go out soon” , her eyelashes trembling. “To Lucy's house?” I said. She looked up almost immediately. “You also know Lucy?” Her eyes widened in surprise. “Yes. I know a lot about you” I said, gulping the last bit of food on my plate. “Then why did you appear pretending to be a wounded man in need?” she said, her voice steady and sharp. I just stared at her. “Why should I tell?” I asked, frowning. She scoffed and pulled her chair back and headed to the kitchen. I stared at the door she just disappeared into. Then she came out, her head scattered. She covered her face with a hoodie. I stared up to her face. She always covered herself up. My eyes cast on his exposed legs. She caught me looking and covered her legs instinctively. “What are you looking at?” She muttered calmly. “What's there to protect?” I asked mockingly. She looked too bonny to cover her body. She scoffed, “But you can't take your eyes away from me,” she answered arrogantly. Too naive, I thought. She made her way to the door then stopped. “Are you really letting me go?” She asked doubtfully. “Don't you want to go?” I asked. She had to be away because it may not be possible to protect her inside this house. I checked my wrist watch at, it was 10 am. Gracias was already out of sight. Even though she wasn't home, the sedative in her room wouldn't take effect. I moved over to the closest, there it was wrapped in a nylon. I smirked. They were still able to evade this house while I was in it? My face darkened. I had already taken the mission. Why would they go the extra miles to bring her? They were really not showing me any respect. I made a call, it connected. “Install a camera in this house,” I said, rolling the gun in my hand. I chuckled to myself. I stared over the window and I saw her tiny figure running frantically. Trying to escape a fate impossible. I couldn't let her wander; she was the key to my survival and livelihood. I cracked the door open, she couldn't be far from me. I tucked the gun into my pants pocket and headed over. After minutes, she was at Lucy’s apartment. She looked back to make sure she was alone. But was it possible for her? It could only be when she wasn't what I wanted. The door opened, she stepped back then a hand dragged her inside. Damn. I threw the cigarette stick on the floor and dashed over. The door had already been locked. I ran to the back door and there she was. Held by two armed men. “Let me go” she struggled. The moment they saw me, they snarled. Her eyes blazed in fury the moment she saw me. “What do you actually want?” She yelled, stamping her feet on the floor. I could feel her hopelessness. “Don't you want the code?” A voice spoke behind me. I turned back and it was him. The masked man. I chuckled. “I want to shoot her right now. You can still take the bullet again for her” He laughed maniacally. Before I could process what was happening, ‘pop’ a loud sound erupted. Instinctively, I dashed towards her. Shielding her. Just a few steps and the bullet hit my elbow. I crashed to the floor. I saw her face frozen, then she covered her lips. Streams of tears running down her cheeks.
