CHAPTER 6
GAME OF NOTHINGNESS
JUDE'S POV
The door burst open. The guards turn.
'Bang' a guard dropped.
Silence followed and the other one rushed up.
I shot him too. He fell flat in the woods.
My steps echoed as I walked deeper. Slow yet steady.
Then I saw him at the center. As if he was the spotlight.
Sitting, legs crossed. His back facing me. No moving.
I knew it was definitely him. And he had been expecting me.
I stopped behind him.
His voice came out, cold yet calm. He knew it wasn't the time to be impulsive.
"You are taking longer than expected"
I kicked the chair hard. It scraped loudly
"I said I will get her here" My voice is low but tight enough to convey my thoughts.
"You know she can't be forced...she has to walk in herself" I paused for a moment.
Yes, that was it.
Then he spoke again.
"And how will you achieve that?" He queried.
I stepped closer, his back still facing me.
My voice dropped, "The process doesn't matter,” a short breath escaping my lips as I said those words.
"She will get there when it's time" my voice hardened.
He turned. His face smug. “Then be quick and don't get caught up”
He stood up and walked away.
I drove back to Meche, my face pale. My body almost dropped dead.
“Bang…Bang” I hit the door.
She was watched, no way could she have escaped.
The door cracked open and I fell right into her arms.
The pain that I had been holding in all day surfaced.
She caught me. Her eyes looked tense.
She walked me to the couch.
My hand clutched to my belly.
She ran back to her room. Her movement was slow yet solid.
She came back with that boss in her hand.
My eyes fixed on hers.
She looked away, not afraid.
I couldn't take my eyes off her for a moment. “What a beautiful prey” I mumbled.
She paused, her hand pressing hard on my wounded belly.
I knew she had it. Not the whole sentence but the word ‘prey.’
“What are you doing?” My face hardened.
She yanked her hand away immediately.
“I am sorry” she stuttered.
“Was it intentional?” I asked and looked at her frowned face.
I watched her gently wrap my body. Her breath hitting against my bare chest.
Her movement gentle, yet precise.
She refused to look at my face, her hand grazing against my belly.
For a moment she paused in her movement.
“Are you craving something?” I said, smirking.
She hurried away from me. She stood just feet away.
“Are you hungry?” she stuttered. Her face flushed.
Watching her nervous face. I chuckled softly.
“Yes,” I said, resting my head on the couch.
I walked her gentle steps and disappeared into the kitchen.
She came back with a tray in hand full with fried rice.
It smelled nice.
She placed the food before me. Gently, she sprayed them.
She looked more calm than usual. She wasn't scared nor fidgeting.
She took her food in her hand and packed a spoonful to her mouth.
“Eat,” she said. Her mouth is filled with food.
“Poison me and Die with me” my voice jolted her.
Her hand hung mid air. Her hand trembled slightly.
She cast me a glance, then a light smile spread on her lips.
“What will I gain if I poison you?” she said, calmly.
What was she playing at? And why was she calmer?
“I know you want something from me…therefore you won't kill me now. I have no reason to fear you” she said and focused on the food.
I smiled in disbelief, she was really something else. Calm around me? The audacity.
The meal went quietly.
After a while she went to the room and came out with a book and a carbon paper.
She was sketching something.
“What are you doing?” I spoke behind her.
Startled, she looked up, her heartbeat intensifying.
She tried to cover it but it was too late.
My eyes drifted to the man she had drawn. Tagged A001- MYSTERY.
I grabbed her hand. My eyes scanned hers for any trace of information.
She flinched.
“What are you doing?” She asked in pain.
My grip on her hand tightened.
“What do you know?” My face went blank.
