"Chapter 1"

"Chapter 1""A month later after the funeral, Darien started looking for work so he could save up for college. But being blind wasn't helping Darien at all, in fact it was harder on Darien to get any type of job and his parents knew it too. As they watched him struggle over and over and get denied each time he applied."

"Darien was sick of it, he wondered why god wasn't answering his prayers in hope that one day a doctor could maybe cure his blindness. Well for Darien that one day was finally approaching."

"July 21th 2017, time 8:41am "The Breakfast Table."

Andrew- Hey babe can I ask you something?

Maria- Depends on what it is.

Andrew- It's about our savings account?

"Maria quickly looked at Darien then back at Andrew."

Maria- Uhh what about it?

Andrew- There's $5,000 dollars in our saving account now.

Maria- Okay?

"Andrew then looked at Maria."

Andrew- What do you mean okay. We only had like $2,000 dollars in that account and you told me that it was for Darien's college fund. Don't you think $2,000 is enough why do you keep adding more money in the account?

Darien- Yeah mom I told you I don't want you and dad to keep paying for everything of mine, I'll manage on my own.

"Maria then looked at them both for a moment not knowing what to say."

Maria- It is for you Darien.

"Darien then turned his head toward his mother's voice."

Maria- But it's not for college.

"Andrew then got angry."

Andrew- Than what the HELL does he need $5,000 dollars for? If it isn't for his college fund Maria?

"Maria then looked at them."

Maria- It's for his eye-sight okay!!!

"Darien then turned his head again after hearing that. And Andrew got even angier pounding his fist down onto the kitchen table."

Andrew: NO MARIA, THE ANSWER IS NO. YOU HEARD WHAT THE DOCTOR SAID, HIS EYE-SIGHT CAN'T BE FIXED.

Maria: You don't know that Andrew. The doctor also said it would take a lot of money for the surgery. Money that we didn't have at the time.

Darien: Mom are you- are you sure you wanna do this?

Maria- Yes baby I'm sure, I overheard you praying the other night and I-

Andrew- Praying? What is she talking about? YOU PRAYING IN THIS HOUSE?

Maria- ANDREW THAT IS ENOUGH. Quit blaming god because our son is blind, because MAYBE this is a sign that god wants me to take a CHANCE even if it's a small percent chance ON OUR SON.

Darien- So you mean there's a chance that I'll be able to see?

"Andrew then looked at Maria."

Andrew- $5,000 dollars is a lot of f*****g money Maria. What happens if this doesn't work huh?

Maria- I'm willing to try Andrew, I'm willing to try for our son and that's all that matters.

"Darien then smiled happily, having the thought of being able to see for the first time was gonna be great. He always wondered what his parents looked like, he wondered what the world looked like. He was so excited that actually wanted to go to the eye-clinic at that very moment."

"But there was one minor problem."

Maria- I called the doctor that would be doing the surgery and he said the cost would be around $7,000 dollars and not 5.

Andrew- That's $2,000 dollars more we don't have that kind of money Maria and do you know if this is even guaranteed to work huh, did you ask him that?

Maria- None of that matters Andrew it's NOT your money.

Andrew- YES IT IS MY MONEY, it's our saving account.

"Maria then looked at Andrew while Darien sat there at the table."

Maria- Andrew don't argue with me about this. I'm doing this for MY son, whether you like it or not.

"Andrew didn't say anything after that just looked at Maria rather than Darien."

Darien- So is $2000 dollars all we need?

Maria- Yes hun right now all we have is $5000, I wasn't gonna bring this up until I knew I had all of the money.

"At that point Darien ran into his room and felt around everywhere, his father and mother quickly ran after him as they watched him grab everything he could carry."

Andrew- Darien what are you doing?

Darien- I'm gonna help get the rest of the money.

Andrew- By doing what, pawning all of your s**t?

Maria- Darien you're not selling a single thing of yours, me and your father will save up the rest of the money it won't take long you'll just have to be patient.

Andrew- Wait I have to help come up with the money?

Maria- Yeah.

Andrew- It's his f*****g eyes, he wants to sell all his s**t to get the money than let him. Why do I have to spend my money on his surgery?

Maria- Because he's your son Andrew.

Andrew- Okay and he's almost a grown ass man he can get his own s**t with his own money.

Maria- Oh my god Andrew.

"Maria then looked at Darien."

Maria- You're not pawning a thing of yours hun, you're just gonna have to wait until we come up with the money okay?

"Darien didn't say anything after that because he knew he had no choice. But what seemed like months and a few days had gone by. Darien's parents finally had some good news for him.

Andrew- Darien get up and get dressed, today's the big day.

Darien- You mean-

Maria- Yes Darien we finally have enough money for your surgery.

"Darien quickly hopped up from laying on the living room couch and hugged both of his parents with excitement."

Darien- Oh my god thank you, thank you. I love you guys so much.

Andrew- Okay Darien we love you too now go get ready we're leaving in a few minutes.

"September 7th 2017, (Whitson's City Eye-Clinic.)"

"After an hour of sitting and waiting for a doctor Darien's name finally was called to be seen."

Nurse- Darien Black?

"Darien then stood up very fast as he was still super excited and rushed over to the sound of the nurse's voice."

Nurse- Dr. Katelynn will see you now.

"Darien and his parents walked into Dr. Katelynn's room and took a seat, while Darien on the other hand had to take a seat on the hospital bed that was laid out in the middle of the room. A few seconds later Dr. Katelynn walked into the room with a clipboard and pointed at Darien and said."

Dr. Katelynn- Name and date of birth.

Darien- Darien Black, 3/8/2000.

Dr.Katelynn- Okay and you two are Darien's parents right, can I have a quick word with you and go over some paperwork right quick.

Maria- Sure.

"They all then headed out into the hallway."

Dr.Katelynn- Okay so you guys want to have surgery done for your son is that correct?

Maria- Yes we have the money and insurance papers right here if you need it.

"Dr.Katelynn then wrote something down on her clipboard before asking them their next question.

Dr.Katelynn- And it says here that Darien was born blind, is that correct?

Maria- Yes that is correct.

"Dr.Katelynn then wrote something down on the clipboard again while looking at the parents."

Dr.Katelynn- Okay so I'm going to be completely honest with you guys about what's going to happen if you decide to go along with the procedure.

Maria- Okay.

Dr.Katelynn- Okay so first things first you both as the parents are paying $7,000 dollars to get Darien's eye surgery done today right?

Andrew- Why is it not gonna work or something?

Dr.Katelynn- Well it isn't because it won't work. But due to the fact that he was born blind the operation is much more difficult and harder to do, then on a person who wasn't born blind and just simply lost their eyesight.

Maria- So what does that mean?

Dr.Katelynn- Well it means in Darien's case doing this surgery and the results of him actually being able to see are gonna be very slim, then of a person who lost their eyesight naturally.

Maria- How slim are his chances are we talking?

Dr.Katelynn- I would say about 15% and the other 85% will most likely make his eyes even worse than what they are now.

Andrew- 15% that's bullshit, that ain't s**t.

Dr.Katelynn- I'm very aware that you are upset with Mr. Black but Darien's 17. I think by now it's best for him to realize that this is gonna be his life from here on out. I know this is not the news you guys wanted to hear but I gotta be honest with you. $7000 dollars is a LOT of money with no guarantee that the surgery will work.

"But little did they know Darien had his ear press against the door hearing everything."

Dr.Katelynn- But if you still want to go through with the surgery then you have that option as well.

"Andrew then looked at Maria."

Andrew- What do you wanna do sweetie?

"Maria didn't say anything, a few seconds later Darien opened the door."

Darien- If you knew THIS wasn't gonna work, you could of just said THAT over the phone instead of ME coming here looking stupid.

"Darien then quickly ran outta the eye-clinic without saying a word."

Andrew- Darien STOP you don't know where you're going.

But Darien didn't care; he just kept running farther and farther away until he ran outta breath and started crying."

Darien- Why, why won't you answer my prayers GOD. What have I ever done wrong to YOU.

"Darien then fell to his knees crying his eyes out. Meanwhile Darien's parents couldn't find him anywhere."

Dr.Katelynn- I am so sorry I didn't know he was listening.

Andrew- It's okay it's not your fault.

Dr.Katelynn- Do you want me to call the police to help you find him?

Andrew- NO I mean no thanks, we- we will find him.

"Andrew then grabbed Maria's hand and left outta the eye-clinic.

Maria- Andrew what if something happens to him?

Andrew- MARIA NOTHING GONNA HAPPEN TO HIM, he's f*****g 17 years old.

Maria- But.

Andrew- No buts, I'm gonna go look for him, if anything he might return home if he gets lost.

"Two days later and Darien was now all over the news as a missing teenager. But Darien was fine; he was just walking through the neighborhood until an unknown voice said something to him."

???- Hello Darien.

"Shocked out his mind Darien then turned his head towards the unknown voice."

Darien- Uhh hello?

???- What are you doing?

Darien- What?

???- I said what are you doing?

"Darien then stopped walking and turned his head towards the voice again."

Darien- Who are you? and how do you know my name?

???- My name's Lucky.

Darien- Lucky?

Lucky- That's right.

Darien- Well what do you want Lucky? I'm kinda busy

Lucky- You don't look that busy to me and besides I'm here to help you Darien.

"Darien then backed up a little as if he was nervous."

Darien- What do you mean you wanna help me, help me with what?

Lucky- Help as in your eye slight.

Darien- How do you know I'm blind?

"Lucky than look at Darien."

Lucky- That's not hard to tell.

Darien- Okay so how can you help me?

Lucky- What if I told you that I had the power to cure your blindness free of charge and 100% percent chance you will be able to see, what would you say?

Darien- I'd say you're wasting my time, and I wouldn't you.

"Darien then continued walking while Lucky looked at him."

Lucky- I could restore your eyesight and your telling me your gonna pass that up?

Darien- Yup.

Lucky- WHY?

Darien- Cause I don't know you and I'm wondering how you know my name?

Lucky- I told your name because it's all over the news dude, your parents are worried sick about you.

Darien- Listen whoever you are please go away you're creeping me out.

"Darien then continued to walk away."

Lucky- Last chance Darien?

"But Darien continued to walk, not listening to Lucky or what he had to say. Later that night around 3 in the morning Darien finally decided to go home. But as he's walking Darien overhears a girl from a distance asking for help and that she was being robbed."

"Darien knew he couldn't see but it didn't mean he couldn't stop whoever was robbing her, Darien quickly rushed over to the girl's voice but when he got closer he heard two other voices that sounded familiar to him."

Michael- b***h scream again and I swear to god I'll kill you.

???- P- please just let me go.

"Then another guy pulled out a pocket knife and put it towards the girl's throat."

Devon- Hand over your purse missy?

Darien- That's Devon and Michael from elementary!!!

"The girl then hands her purse to Devon."

???- Here just take it.

"Devon snatches the purse from the girl as he quickly goes through it."

Devon- Mike all she has is $22 dollars on her.

Michael- That's not all she has.

"Michael then unzips his pants as the girl looks down realizing what Michael was about to do. She starts crying, fearing for her life as Devon kept the knife press at her neck."

Devon- Shhh it's all gonna be over soon.

"The girl then yelled one last time saying HELP, Darien knew what they were doing, but he knew he couldn't do anything because he was blind and they had weapons on them."
