CHAPTER 33 JASE I sat up, my head throbbing as I looked around the room. It was dark outside, with rays of moonlight peeking in through the curtains. The fogginess in my brain attempted to lift as I listened to the faint sound of crickets chirping outside, singing their song to the stars that shone above. It always seemed as though a choir of insects came alive at night during the Texas summer, likely due to the slight relief from the day time’s heat. I sat up more fully then, my eyes adjusting to the darkness, the light from the window helping to illuminate some of what was around me.
