Blurb

Lyra Ashthorn was born cursed, but she never imagined her curse would be loving the man destined to destroy her.

For eighteen years, Moonveil Pack called her traitor’s daughter, omega trash, and murderer’s blood. Then the Moon Goddess gave her the one thing she had prayed for.

Kael Draven—the future Alpha—was her mate.

For three months, Kael loved her. He kissed her, promised her a future, and swore no one would ever hurt her again.

Then came his coronation.

Before the pack, Lyra was accused of trying to assassinate him.

The evidence was perfect.

The witnesses were convincing.

And Kael rejected her.

Banished to the Northern Wastes, Lyra disappeared with a broken heart…and Kael’s unborn twins growing inside her.

Five years later, the dead omega returns.

But Lyra is no longer weak.

She is the ruthless leader of the Shadow Wolves, a forgotten bloodline feared by every Alpha.

And she has returned for revenge.

Then, at a school gathering, Kael sees her.

Beside Lyra stand two children who look like him.

His blood.

His twins.

The mate bond roars back to life.

But Lyra doesn't want his love.

She wants the truth.

And someone will kill to keep it buried.

Awakening
Lyra POV The silver trays weighed nothing compared to the eyes that followed me across the hall. I kept my head down, the way I always did on Sage Night, the way I'd learned to do since I was old enough to carry a pitcher without spilling it. Around me, the great hall of Moonveil Pack blazed with lantern light and laughter, the scent of roasted venison and crushed sage thick enough to taste. Wolves in their finest clothes toasted the full moon rising outside the high windows, and I moved between them like a ghost they'd all agreed not to see. "Servant." A woman's voice, clipped and cold. Beta Derrick's cousin, I thought, though I'd stopped bothering to learn all their names years ago. "You're spilling wine on the floor. Do you know what silk costs?" "Forgive me." I dipped my head lower and refilled her glass with hands that didn't shake anymore. They used to. Now they'd gone steady the way a callus goes numb. Traitor's daughter. Cursed blood. I'd heard the words so many times they'd stopped landing like blows and started feeling more like random word— something to endure, not something to fight. My mother had been executed for murdering the old Alpha Queen before I was old enough to remember her face, and I'd spent eighteen years paying a debt I never agreed to owe. Eighteen years. Tonight. I hadn't told anyone. There was no one to tell. But I felt it in my bones the way I felt the moon pulling at the tide of my blood—tonight was the night my wolf was supposed to wake fully, supposed to find whatever the Moon Goddess had marked for me. Myssa, the wolf I'd kept leashed and starved and silent since I was old enough to understand what happened to servant girls who let their wolves show too much personality, stirred low in my chest like something rolling over in its sleep. Not tonight, I told her silently, gripping the pitcher tighter. Tonight we disappear. Tonight we are no one. A hush rippled through the hall, starting near the dais and spreading outward like water finding the low ground. I looked up despite myself. The Alpha stood at the head of the room, Luna Seraphine at his side, both of them radiant in a way that made the rest of us look like unlit candles. "Tonight," the Alpha's voice rolled out over the crowd, deep and resonant with authority, "Moonveil Pack celebrates the coming-of-age of my son and heir. Ronan Ashmoor stands before you tonight a full-grown wolf, ready to take his place, ready to find the mate the Goddess has chosen for him." The crowd erupted in cheers. I kept pouring wine. I'd seen Ronan Ashmoor before, always from a distance, always through the particular invisibility granted to servants. Cold. That was the word everyone used. Cold and controlled, a wolf who moved through his own celebrations like a man attending someone else's funeral. Tonight was supposed to change that. Tonight, everyone whispered, he'd claim Clara, the Beta's daughter, and cement the alliance that had been circling the pack like a vulture for years. I didn't care. I told myself I didn't care. Whatever happened to Ronan Ashmoor and Clara and the whole gleaming machinery of pack politics had nothing to do with a girl who existed only to keep glasses full and floors clean. Then the moon crested fully over the mountains outside, its light spilling silver through the tall windows, and something inside me tore open. I nearly dropped the pitcher. My knees buckled, caught myself against the edge of a table, and a woman beside me sniffed in disgust and stepped away as if I might be diseased. I barely noticed her. Every nerve in my body had gone brighten, my skin too tight, my pulse a drumbeat I could hear in my ears. Myssa surged up from wherever I'd buried her, no longer sleeping, no longer leashed—awake, alert, hungry in a way that had nothing to do with food. Mate, she breathed, and the word rearranged something fundamental in my chest. He's here. He's here, he's here— A scent hit me. Winter pine and rain on cold stone, something clean and dark and utterly unlike the perfume and roasted meat choking the rest of the hall. It cut through everything else like a blade through silk, and my body turned toward it before my mind gave permission. "No," I whispered, gripping the table. "No, not tonight. Not ever. I can't—" But my feet were already moving. I set the pitcher down with hands that trembled now, all that hard-won steadiness gone in an instant, and I let the scent pull me through the crowd like a thread reeling in a hopelessly tangled fish. Silk skirts brushed against me. Someone's elbow caught my shoulder and I barely felt it. The noise of the hall receded into something distant and underwater while the scent grew sharper, closer, until it filled my skull and there was room for nothing else. This is madness, I thought. This is the servant's daughter chasing a scent through the Alpha's own hall on the one night everyone is watching. This is how girls like me disappear. I didn't stop. The crowd thinned near the dais, wolves parting instinctively for someone of much higher rank than me, and for one terrible, weightless moment I didn't understand why they were making room. Then I looked up, and the answer stood directly in front of me. Ronan Ashmoor. He was taller than I'd imagined from a distance, broad-shouldered in a dark formal coat that made every other man in the room look unfinished by comparison. His jaw was set in a hard, controlled line, dark hair falling over a brow that seemed built for scowling, and his eyes. My eyes found him. Something detonated in the space between us. I watched it happen to him in real time: the careful, cold composure cracking down the middle like ice giving way beneath sudden weight. His nostrils flared. His hand, which had been resting loosely at his side, curled into a fist as if he were physically restraining himself from crossing the remaining distance between us. Around him, I dimly registered Clara's voice cutting off mid-sentence. I registered Luna Seraphine's sharp intake of breath. None of it mattered. There was only the winter-pine scent flooding my lungs, only Myssa howling with a joy I hadn't let myself feel in eighteen years, only the impossible, forbidden, world-ending truth written plainly across the Alpha heir's stunned face. He was staring at me the way a drowning man stares at the surface of the water. And I understood, with a horror that turned my blood to ice even as my wolf sang with recognition, exactly what I'd just found . I'm the fated mate to the ruthless alpha heir Ronan Ashmoor.
