Episode One: The Luna Who Didn't Cry
The great hall had never been this quiet.
Hundreds of wolves stood beneath the enormous crystal chandeliers, their faces turned toward the woman standing alone in the center of the room.
Elena Veyra heard every whisper.
Every breath.
Every judgment.
But she didn't look at any of them.
Her eyes remained fixed on the man standing at the head of the hall.
Her husband.
Alpha Darius Blackthorn.
For five years, Elena had stood beside him.
Five years of ceremonies.
Five years of political meetings.
Five years of smiling beside him whenever the pack needed its Luna to look happy.
And now, five years of pretending were coming to an end.
Darius stood with his shoulders straight and his expression cold.
Beside him was Seraphina Vale.
The woman who had once been Elena's closest friend.
Seraphina's fingers were wrapped around Darius's arm.
She wore a pale silver dress—the exact color traditionally reserved for an Alpha's chosen mate.
Elena noticed it immediately.
So did everyone else.
A murmur moved through the hall.
Darius finally spoke.
"Elena."
Her name echoed across the room.
She lifted her head.
"Yes, Alpha?"
There was something strange about hearing herself call him that.
She had once called him something warmer.
But that word belonged to another lifetime.
Darius's jaw tightened.
"Our marriage is over."
Silence.
Someone gasped.
Elena didn't move.
Darius continued.
"For the sake of the Blackthorn Pack, I have decided to choose a new Luna."
Seraphina lowered her eyes modestly.
The performance was almost perfect.
Almost.
Elena looked at her.
Seraphina smiled.
It wasn't a friendly smile.
It was the smile of someone who had already won.
Darius reached for Seraphina's hand.
"The council has approved my decision."
Another wave of whispers.
Elena slowly looked around the hall.
The elders.
The warriors.
The servants.
The families who had once celebrated her wedding.
Most wouldn't meet her eyes.
They were afraid.
Not of Elena.
Of Darius.
She understood.
For years, she had wondered how quickly people would abandon her if Darius ever turned against her.
Now she had her answer.
Very quickly.
Darius's voice became colder.
"You will leave the Blackthorn territory before sunset."
Elena's fingers curled inside the sleeves of her dress.
"Is that your final decision?"
"Yes."
"After five years?"
Darius's expression didn't change.
"Don't make this difficult."
Elena almost laughed.
Difficult?
She had spent five years making everything easy for him.
She had attended council meetings when he was absent.
She had negotiated peace between rival families.
She had helped rebuild villages after attacks.
She had stood beside him during every ceremony.
And when his father died, she had been the person who remained beside him through the entire funeral.
Yet now he couldn't even give her five minutes of dignity.
Elena took a slow breath.
"Then I will leave."
Seraphina's smile widened.
Darius looked almost surprised by her answer.
Perhaps he had expected tears.
Perhaps he had expected her to beg.
He didn't know Elena very well.
Not anymore.
She turned toward the enormous doors.
One step.
Then another.
Nobody stopped her.
Nobody called her name.
Until—
"Elena."
She stopped.
Darius was watching her.
"Leave everything belonging to the Blackthorn family."
Elena slowly turned around.
"What do you mean?"
"The jewelry. The estate accounts. The ceremonial possessions."
A strange calm settled over her.
"Of course."
Darius nodded.
"Good."
Elena smiled.
This time, it wasn't sadness.
It was something else.
Something that made the nearest guard unconsciously straighten.
"Then there is one thing you should know, Alpha."
Darius frowned.
"What?"
Elena stepped closer.
She lowered her voice so only he could hear.
"You can keep everything I gave you."
His eyes narrowed.
"But one day," she continued, "you may discover that the most valuable thing I ever brought into this pack wasn't something you could own."
Darius stared at her.
Elena turned away.
She walked through the doors.
And never looked back.
---
The moment she reached her room, Elena closed the door.
She stood with her back against it.
For several seconds, she didn't move.
Then she exhaled.
Slowly.
Her hands were shaking.
Not because she wanted Darius back.
Because she was angry.
Five years.
Five years of silence.
Five years of hiding.
Five years of pretending she was simply Elena Blackthorn.
But that woman had just died in the great hall.
And perhaps that was exactly what needed to happen.
Elena crossed the room and opened an old wooden chest hidden beneath her bed.
Inside were things nobody in the Blackthorn Pack knew existed.
A black cloak.
A silver pendant.
A leather-bound journal.
And a small metal ring bearing an unfamiliar symbol.
A crescent moon surrounded by seven sharp points.
Elena touched the ring.
For years, she had refused to wear it.
Her grandmother had given it to her on the night before Elena left her childhood home.
"When the time comes," her grandmother had whispered, "you'll understand."
Elena had never understood.
Until tonight.
She opened the journal.
Most of its pages were filled with writing she had never been able to decipher.
But one page had always frightened her.
A single sentence.
When the daughter of the Silver Queen returns, the wolves will kneel.
Elena stared at the words.
Then she heard footsteps outside.
She immediately closed the journal.
Someone knocked.
"Lady Elena?"
She recognized the voice.
Mara.
Her personal attendant.
"Come in."
The door opened.
Mara entered carrying a small travel bag.
Her eyes were red.
"You shouldn't leave alone."
Elena looked at her.
"Mara, you don't have to come with me."
"I know."
Mara placed the bag on the bed.
"I'm coming anyway."
For the first time that night, Elena's expression softened.
"Thank you."
Mara hesitated.
"There is something else."
"What?"
"I found this outside your door."
She handed Elena a folded piece of paper.
Elena opened it.
Three words were written inside.
THEY KNOW.
Her heart stopped.
Mara noticed the change in her face.
"What is it?"
Elena folded the paper.
"Nothing."
But she knew it wasn't nothing.
Someone knew.
Someone knew about the journal.
Someone knew about the ring.
And perhaps someone knew exactly who Elena really was.
She looked toward the window.
Beyond the glass, the Blackthorn forest stretched beneath the moonlight.
Five years ago, Elena had entered this territory as a bride.
Tonight, she would leave it as something else.
A stranger.
A survivor.
Perhaps even a queen.
She picked up the silver pendant from the chest and placed it around her neck.
The moment the pendant touched her skin, a sharp warmth spread through her hand.
Elena gasped.
The lights in the room flickered.
Mara stepped backward.
"Elena?"
Elena looked down.
The symbol on the pendant was glowing faintly.
Then, somewhere deep inside the forest—
A wolf howled.
Another answered.
Then another.
Elena's blood ran cold.
Those weren't Blackthorn wolves.
She knew that sound.
She had heard it only once before.
When she was a child.
Her grandmother had called it the call of the Silver Queens.
Elena looked toward the dark forest.
For five years, she had run from her past.
Tonight, her past had finally found her.
And it had come looking for its queen.
