Chapter 10
“You—agree?” I was absolutely stunned. Gigi had agreed to let me go back to Ryker’s pack and feel things out. I was sure she’d tell him where to go.
“Why yes dear, I think you’ll love it.”
“And you’re coming too?”
She smiled and nodded, “Yes love, you’re my only family. Of course, I’ll be there with you. Witches don’t normally live with packs, but Ryker is the Alpha and of course he’s already approved it. Plus, he needs some assistance with the crops, nothing a little magic can’t fix.”
“Crops?”
“Packs are fairly self-sufficient. That’s how we manage to fly under the radar of humans. We grow our own food, have our own hospital, all help to work around the territory, etc. Gigi said she can spell the crops so we can grow food all year long, not having to worry about using greenhouses or going into the human cities. It’s actually genius.” Ryker
“This all seems so surreal. I feel like I’m going off to Hogwarts,” I mumble.
“Where’s Hogwarts?” Ryker turned his head questioningly.
“You know, Harry Potter. ‘You’re a wizard Harry,’” I try to imitate Hagrid’s voice.
“Who’s Harry?” His eyes narrow. Is this guy seriously jealous of a fictional character?
“I’m going to have top educate you in the world of Harry Potter. Considering you’re a werewolf and Gigi is a witch and there’s an evil man that’s trying to take over the world and simultaneously find and kill someone who stands in his way, it’s not far off.” I just realized I am Harry Potter. How exciting! I guess dreams really do come true.
“I haven’t the slightest clue what you’re talking about. But this Harry better stay away from you,” he growled.
“You’re cute when you’re jealous,” I teased and pat his shoulder.
“Alright, enough you two. We have a long drive ahead of us.” Gigi waved her hands in exacerbation. To be honest, I was so focused on Ryker I forgot she was there.
We grabbed our things before making our way out of the apartment to the rental truck. I stopped in the doorway and looked back at the place I’ve spent my whole life. So many first experiences happened in this apartment and, unknowingly, so many last moments. I felt a pang of sadness at leaving this all behind, but everyone assured me I would be happy with the pack.
We drove for what felt like forever, occasionally chatting about random things, but we were all silent for the most part. Ryker focused on the road while I watched the buildings and city life around us slowly start to fade away. Gigi’s soft snores came from the back, Ryker and I shared a small smile at this.
About an hour and a half into our drive Ryker turned onto a dirt road. We were driving on what looked like a trail surrounded by impossibly tall trees. I lived in the city my whole life, and often went camping nearby with Chelsea, but I’ve never seen this forested area before. We continued along the dirt road until Ryker made a turn onto what looked like a driveway.
A small gasp escaped my lips when I saw the ginormous house—or mansion—at the end of the long driveway. It stood at four storeys with an abundance of large windows. The bricks were a soft cream colour, and each window was framed with intricate designs. The entrance was a dark wooden double door. It looked like one of those old royal houses you’d see on a tour in Europe. I basically felt like I was pulling up to Buckingham Palace. The end of the driveway was circular with a spewing fountain in the middle. As we got close, I could see in the centre of the fountain was a beautifully carved, naked woman. Something about her felt so familiar. But that didn’t make sense, how could I know a statue?
“Is this where you live?” My mouth was still on the floor.
“Yes. This has been my family home for centuries. We’ve obviously remodeled it throughout the different eras, it’s the one thing Aziz didn’t take from me.” Ryker parked the truck in front of the steps that lead to the large black wooden door.
“It’s stunning,” I breathed, still admiring the large house, “How many rooms are there?”
“Well, there’s over one hundred rooms, but the house has been divided by all the ranked members and their families. Plus, the grand dining room or ballroom for pack events. I’ll give you a tour when you’re ready. There’s also homes in the surrounding areas and other common buildings, like the training centre.” Ryker pointed to a large modern looking building behind us. I was so entranced by the mansion that I failed to notice all the other homes that surrounded the main house.
“Chels is going to freak out,” My eyes continued to scan over all the land and buildings. Chels couldn’t come with us, she said she had some things to take care of before meeting us here.
“Genevieve?” I hear a small voice call out. I look up to see a slim man with short salt and pepper hair and dark eyes making his way slowly down the front steps, looking past me at Gigi.
“Takeo?” Gigi pushed passed me and embraced the strange man.
“Who is he?” I whispered to Ryker.
“That would be my father. Pleasure to meet you, I’m Kenji,” a man that looked very similar to the man hugging Gigi reached out his hand to me. He was taller, more muscular and his hair was black compared to Takeo. I looked at his hand curiously.
“I’m Ry’s Beta. I’m sure he’s told you all about me. He probably started with how insanely handsome I am, then how incredibly smart I and finished by telling you that I’m a much better fighter than him and kick his ass.” A huge grin appeared on his face and I couldn’t help the small smile that formed on my lips. From the corner of my eye, I saw Ryker roll his eyes with a smile playing on his lips. I like this Kenji guy.
“Willow, nice to meet you,” I took his outstretched hand and shook it.
“If Ry told her any of those things, he’d be lying to her,” A small voice came from behind Kenji. I looked behind him to see a petite woman with porcelain skin, vibrant purple hair that fell just below her chin and chocolate brown eyes. “I’m Kana, I’m Kenji’s mate.”
“It’s nice to meet you both,” I smiled, feeling a little shy, I took a small step closer to Ryker so that he was positioned slightly ahead of me.
“Why don’t we all go inside, gather the ranked wolves and catch up. We have a lot to discuss,” Ryker suggested, gesturing to the front door.
“Okay, but he did tell you the handsome part, right?” Kenji looked at me with one eyebrow raised. Kana rolled her eyes at her mate before tugging him towards the front door, mumbling something like ‘scaring her away.’
Gigi and Takeo had already made their way inside, deep in conversation. Ryker gently grabbed my hand as his eyes searched mine, almost asking permission to hold my hand. I gave him a small smile in response and allowed him to tow me into the house.
When we walked in, I froze, feet planted in place. Once again, this mansion has taken my breath away. My eyes locked on a giant wooden staircase with intricate designs and details along the bannister that led up and then split left and right. It was giving me major Titanic vibes.
“It’s going to take me a week to get over the beauty of this place,” I said aloud, mostly to myself.
“You get used to it,” Kana looked back at me and smiled.
With my hand still in Ryker’s, we began to ascend the enormous staircase and turned right. Ryker pushed through a large oak door and we were led into what I assume is someone’s office. A large wooden desk with papers strewn across it, the walls covered in books and a large leather chair tucked behind the desk. To my left was two large leather sofas with a wooden coffee table between them. Was there anything in this house that wasn’t made out of wood?
“You get used to the overuse of wood too,” Kana smiled at me knowingly as she took a seat on the sofa beside Kenji.
“It’s not overused. Half this stuff has been in our families for decades, if not centuries. Plus, we’re just really resourceful,” Kenji furrowed his brows at his mate.
“I’m just trying to make conversation with Willow, I know how she feels going into a strange packs house. It’s an adjustment.”
“Technically, I’ve never been in a pack house before,” I say as I continue to search the room.
“I’m sorry, did I hear that correctly?” A new voice came from behind me, and I turned to see our new arrivals. Five astonishingly handsome werewolves walked into the room and I couldn’t decipher who had spoken. Partially because I was distracted by the six boxes of pizza one of them was carrying and settled it on the coffee table. A tall blonde muscular woman took a small step towards me, her icy blue eyes staring into mine. I don’t know what was more intimidating, her stunning looks or the waves of power that washed off of her.
“I’m Leola, the Gamma. But just call me Leo. This is my mate Mallon, you can call him i***t if you’d like,” she flashed a quick smile at her mate. He just shrugged his shoulders, apparently indifferent to what she had said. Her mate towered over her, with similar blonde hair and chocolate brown eyes. Like every other werewolf I’ve seen, he too was incredibly buff.
“This is Godric, he’s one of our head warriors,” she pointed to the tallest man in the room. His had toned dark skin and soft brown eyes. I could see his arms and neck were littered with small scars, no doubt from his position.
“Luna,” he did a small bow before taking a seat in one of the armchairs near Kenji and Kana.
“This is—” Leo began before a girl identical to her jumped in front of me.
“I’m Valencia, but everyone calls me Val. You can call me anytime,” she winked at me and a small growl came from the girl behind her.
“You’re—” I started.
“Twins.” Both Leo and Val said in unison before I could finish my question.
“I never understand why everyone always has to point it out, it’s pretty obvious,” Leo rolled her eyes in annoyance.
Val put her hands on her hips and turned towards her sister, “It’s only natural, give the poor girl a break.” Leo huffed before dragging her mate to sit on the vacant sofa.
Val turned back to me. “I’m the other head warrior. This is my mate Pandora. It’s so great to meet you. We were all beginning to worry Ryker was going to be alone forever.” She was so cheery I flinched ever so slightly. I was never really drawn to people who had a lot of energy or were super bubbly.
“Pandora. Call me Dora. Don’t call my mate as she suggested.” Dora was the complete opposite of Val. She was shorter with curly brown hair and big brown eyes.
“Oh Dory, you know I was just kidding. She has her own mate.” Val nudged Dora in the ribs slightly. Dora grunted and made her way to the couch
Ryker clapped his hands together as he stood beside me, silencing all the chatter in the room. “There will be plenty of time to meet Willow and talk crap about me,” he threw a look at Val who giggled, “We have some important things to discuss first. I just want to make you all understand the gravity of the situation we’re in. Nothing said in this room is to be discussed outside of this room. Especially, not with other pack members.” Ryker looked at his team of super-hot wolves. They all nodded, waiting for him to continue.
“As I’ve told you all already Willow is my mate. Up until the other night she had no knowledge that there were supernatural creatures, let alone that she is one. It’s for good reason that her true identity was kept from her.” Everyone had their eyes on Ryker, completely absorbing everything his was saying.
“We have information about the prophecy and how and who will finally destroy Aziz.” Everyone started to whisper, and Ryker held up a hand, silencing them once again.
“Well, are you going to tell us, or do we have to guess?” Kenji huffed impatiently.
Ryker ignored his Betas comment and continued, “When I found Willow, I discovered her grandmother Gigi was actually a witch, the same witch who had first received the prophecy. She had been hiding Willow her entire life as well as suppressing her wolf.”
“Why?” Leo interrupted. Ryker gave her a pointed look. She pressed her lips together to refrain from asking more questions.
“Willow is Aziz’s daughter. She is who the prophecy is about. She is who’s going to help us destroy Aziz and take back what is rightfully mine.” I glanced up at Ryker, the fire in his icy eyes burned so intensely they could set the room on fire.
