Chapter 7 “WHAT?” Ryker jumped up from the sofa, tossing the glass table into the wall across from us, making us all jump to our feet. Glass, cookies and tea littering the floor. He turned towards Gigi, his whole body suddenly began to shake, and he clenched his fists. He turned to look at me, his black eyes boring a hole into mine. His gaze was so strong, so intimidating I had to look away. This is how I die. “Did you know?” He spat at me. “Pardon?” I took a step away from him. I don’t know where his anger was coming from, or why he was angry at me, but he was scaring me. His large, beautiful figure stepped towards me and he towered over me. “Did you know who your father was?” He gripped my arms tightly as his eyes continued to stare into mine. I tried to pull away, but it was no use, his hands instinctively held on tighter. “You’re hurting me,” I whimpered. I wouldn’t be surprised if I had bruises afterwards. Ryker instantly let me go and shook his head, trying to clear his head. He took a step back and closed his eyes. He pinched the bridge of his nose and let out a deep sigh. “Be honest with me, did you know Aziz was your father?” His eyes began to lighten, but his body was still trembling. “No, I didn’t know any of this s**t before you turned up last night. I told you this already.” I was upset that he was insinuating that I was hiding something from him. Reality check bud, everyone was hiding things from me! “What is your name boy,” Gigi stared accusingly at him. “Ryker,” he answered immediately. “No, what is your full name,” she pressed. What did it matter what his name was? This man was so angry he would probably murder us all. We didn’t need to know his full name before obliterated us. He stared at Gigi for a moment before finally saying, “Ryker Harrington.” Chelsea gasped at this, while Gigi nodded her head. Unsurprising to anyone, I’m confused. The room was filled in silence, everyone seemed to be deep in thought. The only thought I had was ‘what the f**k?’ “Can someone please tell me what I’m missing,” I sighed in frustration. “He’s royalty. He’s the son of the King and Queen, Prince Ryker.” Chelsea bowed her head slightly. “Wait a second. Are we related?” I turned to Ryker, my face filled with disgust. I may be new to this whole werewolf thing, but this is not something that’s okay with me. If my mother’s mate is the Alpha King, I’m technically a princess. If Ryker is a prince, that must mean he’s my brother. How the f**k could my own brother be my mate? How sick is this supernatural world? “What? No! Ew. How could you think that?” his face mirrored my disgust. “Aziz is the Alpha King, if I’m his daughter then I would technically be a Princess, right?” He nods in confirmation. “Well, Chels just said you’re the Prince, so I’m assuming you’re also Aziz spawn.” “Absolutely not,” he spat, clearly, I’ve offended him. Anger flashes in my eyes, yet this is somehow attractive to me. Please, someone tell me that psychiatrist is almost here. “I don’t get it.” Shocking, right? “I’m the son of King Cathal and Queen Hera. They were the original rulers before Aziz murdered them and forcefully took their titles. Our family has been in power for thousands of years, never once has anyone tried to overthrow the monarchy. Most wolves admire the royals and look to us to aid them whenever possible. Then Aziz came around, used black magic and took control of everything. He killed my parents right in front of my eyes, I was only three. He spared my life, solely as a reminder to everyone of his cruelty.” He said Aziz’s name with such hatred and disgust it sent a chill down my spine. “I’m sorry,” I whispered, placing my hand on his shoulder. His eyes softened and he gave me a sad smile, placing his hand over my own. “I truly believe this is why the Moon Goddess made you my mate. You are his heir, the one that is supposed to defeat him and restore the balance. I don’t think there’s anyone on this planet that wants to see him suffer and fall more than I do. Together we can be unstoppable.” He cupped my face in his larger hands, my face warming at his touch. “I don’t know how to be this saviour everyone is hoping for,” I confess. “It’s okay, I’ll help you,” he rubbed his thumb along my cheek, sending waves of electricity through my body. “We all will,” Chelsea spoke, and I turned my head towards her and Gigi. I had gotten so lost in Ryker that I had almost forgotten they were there. I looked at everyone in the room, they all stared at me with such confidence it made my heart hurt. I was so new to all of this, and they all expected me to be this knight in shining armour that would free all werewolves from some crazed ruler. I already feel so overwhelmed and in over my head. The one thing I did know was that I had to try. “I’m going to take off, it’s getting late. If you need me or have any questions at all, call me. Love you,” Chelsea kissed my cheek and headed for the door. It wasn’t until my stomach grumbled that I realized how late it was. I glanced out the living room window and noticed the sun was setting. We had spent almost the whole day talking, yet I still felt like I had barely scratched the surface of it all. It was then that I remembered the disaster that was my living room. The glass table shattered everywhere, food and drink splattered all over the floor and walls. I took a step towards the mess, ready to clean it when it suddenly disappeared. I gasped and jumped back. “Don’t worry love, I have taken care of it.” Gigi smiled at me. “How did you—” I began before remembering, Gigi is a witch. “Honestly, it’s easier that you know, I don’t have to do so many things the human way.” “Glad to be of service,” I continued to stare where the mess once was. “You’ll get used to it,” Ryker whispered in my ear. “You kids must be famished, Ryker would you like to stay for dinner?” Gigi asked, and I gave her a pointed look. Why was she inviting him to stay? “I’d love to,” he grinned at me, obviously sensing my discomfort. I just needed some time to digest everything that’s been thrown at me today. In less than twenty-four hours my world has been flipped upside down and then shaken like a martini. “I’ll go whip something up, I’ll only be a couple of minutes.” She winked in my direction and made her way to the kitchen. Ryker and I sat back on the couch, sitting in awkward silence. I didn’t know what to say to him. I still had so many questions about being a werewolf, about him being a prince, about my creator and what he expected of me as his ‘mate.’ How can I even turn into a wolf? When will I turn into a wolf? What will my wolf look like? He said he was an Alpha, but where is his pack? How am I expected to kill Aziz? What does being mates mean? Do we still date other people? Most importantly, when will all my confusion end? I hear a chuckle beside me and turn to face the godly looking man beside me, “What?” “I can see the gears turning in your mind. Relax, take a deep breath,” I do as he says, “I’ll answer any and all your questions as honestly as I can and as best as I can. I can imagine how overwhelming this can all be for you. Last night you were just enjoying a night out with your best friend, and may I say you looked absolutely stunning, and today you’re finding out your whole life has been a ruse. It’s only normal that your confused, curious and even a bit angry. Ask my anything,” he encouraged. I sighed, I had no idea where to begin. Maybe I’ll start with the whole wolf-shifting thing. “How do I shift into a wolf?” “It’s hard to explain, since you’ve never felt your wolfs presence. I can almost compare feeling your wolf like having a gut feeling, only that guy feeling can actually talk to you. Not really words, but you just understand what it’s trying to communicate. When you become of age, which is sixteen, you can shift. First you start by taking all your clothes off, and—” “Excuse me? Is that a joke?” I interrupt. He laughs at my expression and shakes his head, “Nudity isn’t something frowned upon between werewolves. Once upon a time we all wandered around naked. It’s just when you shift, if you’re wearing clothes, you’ll destroy them. That’s why you would normally strip, but at times of battle you wouldn’t waste time and just shift. But you get this feeling inside you, a kind of warmth that spreads through your body. You surrender control to your wolf, and you slowly feel your body beginning to sprout fur, your bones breaking and healing rapidly and then you’re on all fours. It can be quite painful the first couple times.” “So, everyone is going to see me naked?” “No,” he growled, “I’ll be the only one with you for your first shift, to help guide you through it.” “Wait, so you’re going to see me naked?” Oh hell no. I mean I’m not self-conscious, but the way he looks at me gives me goosebumps. I don’t think I could take my socks off in front of him, let alone all my clothes. “That is literally the only thing you’re taking away from this right now?” He looked at me incredulously. “I just told you all your bones will break, and you’ll be in great pain.” “But you said that’s only the first couple times, right?” I countered. “Yes, but—” “But everyone will see me naked every time I shift.” I interrupted. He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Trust me when I say, no one but me will care you’re naked. If I catch anyone staring for even just a moment, I will rip their eyeballs out and feed them to them.” He looked at me, eyes darkening slightly. Damn, this guy may actually be psychotic. Maybe I should run. “That’s a bit extreme don’t you think?” I raised my eyebrows at him. “No, you’re mine.” He growled once again. “How would everyone even know that?” “Easy, I Mark you,” he stated it so simply, as if it was common knowledge. Do these people forget I have no knowledge what-so-ever? “Mark me?” Just as he was about to answer Gigi walked in with dinner. Ryker looked relieved at her interruption. She had made homemade spaghetti and meatballs, my favourite. She placed the bowl of pasta and our dished on the glass table. Apparently, she was able to fix the broken table with her magic, maybe that’s why she didn’t freak out when Ryker sent it flying across the room. “I think we’ve had enough werewolf talk for today, don’t you Ryker?” Gigi smiled at him. “I agree, I’m exhausted, I can only imagine how Willow feels.” He looked down at me as I stuffed my face with spaghetti. I probably had sauce all over my face, but I was never one shy to eat in front of others. I just gave him a thumbs up and continued to eat, to which he laughed. “Ryker, you’re more than welcome to stay the night. But absolutely not in my granddaughters’ room,” Gigi warned sternly. “Thanks, I appreciate it. It’ll keep my wolf settled at least.” Ryker nodded. “I figured,” she smiled at him. Who is this woman and what has she done with Gigi? She went from wanting to keep Ryker away, to letting him in, to inviting him for dinner and now inviting him to sleepover? What was this lady’s agenda?
