Chapter 01: A Mistake that Cause Her Downfall

One of the things that a Gomez needs to possess is power, intelligence, and skills. These three aspects should be possessed by their kin and up to the next generation, and for Fernando, his daughter Elyse possesses these aspects. Although Elyse was only his daughter, he saw her potential in their business. She’s a good listener and can easily adapt to changes, especially when she experiences the loss of her mother.

Years passed when she experienced another change when Celeste and her daughter, Mikaela, entered their family. For her, this was her biggest adjustment that she made to her life since her father wanted to get married again. A challenge for her as well is to get close to Celeste’s daughter, Mikaela, but sadly, Mika always kept her distance, refusing to talk or even be approached by her.

One evening when she got home from their company, Mika approached her, which made her confused and totally shocked for a moment, since this was the first time that Mika had talked to her. They’ve been in the same house for at least two years, but it is shocking that this is the first time Mika has been close to her without being annoyed. “Wait, you want me to go to the party with you?” still bewildered because Mika invited her to a party which is really the first time Mika did.

All of her life, she knew Mika was an outgoer, always wanting to have fun and becoming wasted. One time she tried to invite her to accommodate her yet Mika refused her. That’s why this is new to her. To Elyse, Mika’s intention wasn’t bad, she was just surprised–in her assumption.

“Well, this is the first time we will have fun and at least try to connect with each other since we’re already a family, right?” This made Elyse’s heart flutter. She didn’t know that this day would come when both of them would try to get to know each other and try to find their similarities and differences since they’re already step-siblings.

“By the way, how about Kevin?” Mika asked cheerfully. Elyse managed a small smile, a bit confused as to why Mika mentioned her fiancé when they barely knew each other.

“Oh, well, he doesn’t usually go to these kinds of parties, and you know he’s pretty busy with his company,” Elyse explained. Mika suddenly shifts her emotions from cheerful to disappointed. Elyse is a bit confused as to why she suddenly looked disappointed at that moment. “Why are you disappointed?” she asked.

“Well, you know, I just really wanted to know him, that’s all. Besides, soon we will all become a family and we haven’t had any conversations. Soon you will get married to him, and it’s better that we don’t have any awkwardness between us.” Elyse smiled, touched by her words. Although it was so fast, since Mika didn’t really care about her life. She knew her as a kind of person that doesn’t want to be part of someone else’s problem, so why is there a bit of change to her?

“Well, we can invite him soon, so that you both can speak to each other and get to know each other as well.”

Mika smiled and playfully held Elyse’s hand. “Are you sure you're going to do that? You’ll let me talk to him?” She awkwardly smiles because of Mika’s sudden touchy act.

“Y-yeah, besides we’re family now, better that we become close to each other,” Elyse said.

“You’re right, it's really hard to have fun if you're getting married. Since your responsibility will change soon.” Elyse smiled.

“Well about the marriage. We haven’t thought about that yet. Besides, there’s so much to handle, especially with the family business. I don’t even know how I’ll manage it since it’s all new to me. I don’t want to disappoint Dad.” Mika just smiled, her expressions suggesting Elyse’s words resonated with her differently.

“If you can’t handle it, then why do you have to be the one in charge?” Mika asked.

“I’m Dad’s only child, so I have to work hard. Aunt Celeste doesn’t have any children yet, so even if it’s difficult, I really need to get my life in order for the company and soon for Aunt Celeste and dad’s child. He or she is able to handle it easily since I organized it clearly.” Mika raised an eyebrow. To her, it felt like an insult that Elyse didn’t consider her as Celeste’s child and can also be part of their business world that can also handle the Gomez business.

“Right, you’re his only child,” Mika said, a hint of sarcasm in her voice, but Elyse didn’t care about it. She felt Mika’s bitterness, since even before this is how she felt about that moment. The reason why they weren’t close. But everyone knows that Elyse has her rights since she’s the real daughter. Even though Mika now shared the Gomez surname, Fernando still really wanted his child to handle their legacy.

“Oh by the way, shouldn’t we tell them where we’re going first? Just so they know, we’re safe,” Elyse suggested, and the way to lessen the heavy feeling in the atmosphere after talking about the next heiress of their family’s business.

“No need, they won’t even notice. Besides, we’ll only be out for a little while,” Mika replied. Elyse’s brow furrowed in confusion at Mika’s sudden change of behavior.

“Are you sure? It’s getting late, and they need to know where we are.” Mika immediately grabbed her hand and pulled her.

“Come on Elyse, what’s with you? Are you your dad’s pet or something? You rarely get a break from your responsibilities, so why not make the most out of it, right? Plus, think about it: your whole life, you just go to the company to learn and then go home late to rest, and repeat. Don’t you get tired of the same routine every day?” Mika asked. Elyse sighed deeply.

She let her guard down and accepted Mika’s point. Because Mika’s right, her whole life has been like that. Why not try to break free, even just for one day?

She forgot her promise to her dad that all she will be doing should be reported to him. This time she followed her own wants and trusted Mika about it, believing they were going somewhere safe. It never crossed her mind that Mika would do anything to harm her, or Mika has a plan for her downfall.

But to Mika, all this act of hers will be paid off. She wants to replace Elyse’s life once this plan is successful.

She wanted to prove that her life will become successful, coming from a miserable life from her father which brought pain to her and her mother. They are not wealthy, but her dream is big. She wanted something for herself to become wealthy and leave all the pain behind her.

That’s why when they entered the Gomez family after her father’s death, her dream became brighter as she saw the life that she deserves. The life that she knew she deserves. But because of Elyse Martin Gomez, she couldn’t achieve it. Elyse possessed everything Mika desired like being the heiress to a large company, marrying a rich and handsome man like Kevin.

Envy consumed her, she wanted Elyse life, she wanted her downfall and replaced her. That night, the plan that she prepared for a long time will happen.

“She’s already down, the drug in her drink is working. Any minute now, she’ll feel the full effect. Is everything ready?” she asked the person on the other end of the phone.

“Yes, he’s already here. The camera’s are all set. I’m sure that once this gets out, not only will you rise, but so will I,” the man on the other end of the line said, laughing. Mika felt an even greater sense of triumph. She knew that once this scandal broke, Elyse would lose not only her father’s trust but also Kevin, the man she loved the most.

Looking at Elyse, she’s already at her limit. So Mika helped her go to the room that they prepared. Elyse didn’t know about the set up, she didn’t care because she’s already drunk.

“Mika we need to go home, they might be looking for us.” Mika smiled and placed her hand on Elyse’s shoulder.

“Elyse, we don’t need to go home, you’re too drunk, that;s why I brought you here. Just lie down,” Mika told her. She pushed Elyse onto the bed. Just then, her accomplice entered the room with the man that he spoke about. Mika couldn’t see his face clearly in the dim light, as he was looking down. Her accomplice quickly removed the man’s shirt.

By then, she walked towards them. Holding the man’s chin, assessing him. She couldn’t recognize the guy by its features but she noticed he wore glasses. “Poor Elyse, I didn’t know this guy would be the one to replace Kevin, what a downgrade.” His hair was messy, and he looked truly wasted, so she couldn’t see his face fully.

The man was immediately pushed on top of Elyse, and Mika grabbed her camera to capture the image of them together. The scene became more intense when the man suddenly kissed Elyse. Under the influence of the drug in her drink, Elyse fought back to his kiss, further solidifying Mika’s evidence to bring Elyse down.

“Let’s go, let’s leave them. We’ll leave the lights dim so the video is still clear. Don’t worry, tomorrow, you’ll see the video right away,” Mika’s accomplice said. Mika looked at him and rolled her eyes.

“I don’t need the scandal video. All I need are pictures and proof of how much of a w***e Elyse was. So tomorrow, take pictures of them and send them to me. You can handle the video, because you’re the one who needs it, not me.” The man laughed at Mika’s words.

“I’m sure I’ll have him by the neck once I have a video like this.” Mika looked at him and smiled.

“Then do whatever you want. I need to go so Uncle doesn’t know I’m not home, and I can still frame her up for leaving without permission.”

“Then what? Are you going to steal her fiancé too?” the man asked Mika. Mika looked at him and smiled.

“Well I’m going to do that soon. I will focus on becoming the next heiress of Uncle then everything will follow including Kevin.”
