CHAPTER 17
In the middle of the night, Tatiana woke up from a sudden movement at her side. She was still feeling drowsy and her eyes felt heavy, so she only saw a blurry figure.
Tatiana moaned and slightly shifted her head before falling asleep again.
At the same time, Noah sat up straight when Tatiana suddenly moved. He placed his hand on Tatiana’s forehead to check her temperature.
She still has a fever, but it’s better now than earlier.
Noah sighed and fixed her blanket. He then moved to the window.
Noah looked back on Tatiana who’s peacefully sleeping.
It wasn’t his plan to visit her and he was also confused at himself for his actions. He’s not usually like this. He’s not interested in anyone and visiting a single lady in the middle of the night is something he wouldn’t do.
But why? Why did he feel worried about Tatiana that he even has to visit her?
Noah can’t understand himself anymore. After their conversation when he came back to the capital, Tatiana has never left his mind. He started becoming curious about what Tatiana is doing and what is she thinking. It just worsens when he found out that Tatiana was the mysterious woman from that dark alley.
Was he purely curious about Tatiana’s sudden change of attitude? Or was it her incredible skills he was interested in? Or... was it something else?
Noah let out a sigh and pushed the thought aside.
He doesn’t have time to be occupied by this. He still has a lot of matters to tend to, and Tatiana should not be one of them.
After a couple of seconds, Noah snuck out from the window like how he did when he entered.
--
Later that day, Tatiana was feeling a bit better.
She had a nice dream and woke up with good energy this morning.
“Good morning, my lady. Are you feeling better today?” Mia greeted as she entered the room while holding a tray full of food.
Tatiana slowly sat up and smiled at her. She is indeed feeling energetic today. Her fever has also subsided a bit, and her head doesn’t hurt that much anymore.
“Yes. I’m feeling full of energy today! I might take a walk later.” Tatiana said and smiled widely.
Mia sighed in relief after seeing her master’s bright energy.
“Alright, my lady, but please don’t push yourself. I’ll accompany you later, but first, please eat your breakfast, my lady.” Mia said and placed the tray on her lap.
“Thank you, Mia.”
Tatiana started eating when she remembered something. She remembered the man from last night. For some reason, that man's hand was warm and she remembered being able to sleep deeply because of it.
“Ah right! Mia, do you know who was inside my room last night?” Tatiana asked casually.
Mia furrowed her brows and looked at Tatiana with confusion.
“Someone was inside your room last night, my lady? But I saw no one entered, and I was outside the whole night. It’s impossible...unless...” Mia started worrying.
Now, it was Tatiana’s turn to be confused.
No one was here last night? Then who was that figure I saw and whose hands did I feel?
All of a sudden, Tatiana felt chills across her spine. If no one was in her room last night, then... it can’t be...
“A ghost?!” Tatiana exclaimed and looked at Mia with scared eyes. Mia’s eyes widened slowly.
“A-a g-ghost? M-my lady, that’s impossible. Ha!” Mia laughed nervously as her eyes wandered around the room.
Tatiana also hugged herself and scanned the room.
There might really be a ghost... in my room.
“M-Mia, I swear I saw someone last night. He even touched my forehead like this!” Tatiana explained frantically and touched her forehead like how the man from last night did.
Even in her past life, Jane was seriously scared of ghosts. She had a trauma about it when her stepsister pulled a prank on her and locked her inside a dark room. She was so scared that she started seeing things. Since then, dark rooms and ghosts make her feel agitated.
She can fight bulky bad guys, play with swords, and risk her life in a dragon’s lair, but with ghosts, she would back out without a second thought.
Mia noticed Tatiana starting to seriously tremble that she started to worry. Her lady was never like this before at the mention of ghosts, but now, it’s like she’s having a panic attack.
Mia acted quickly and tried to assure Tatiana. She was scared, herself, but her lady must come first.
“My lady, I...” Mia thought of a reason. “I... I just remembered! The young lord visited you last night...so, uh, it’s not a ghost! Yeah! It was Sir Aaron!”
Mia gave Tatiana a reassuring smile, hoping she would believe her.
Tatiana calmed down a little at this.
“Really?”
“Yes, my lady! I’m sorry, I forgot. I wasn’t thinking clearly! Haha...”
Tatiana sighed in relief. If it was really a ghost, she doesn’t know if she could take it. It would probably bother her for months or worst she might not come back to this house anymore.
But, if it was indeed her brother, then all is well.
But... Why did my brother visit me in the middle of the night? Was he that worried?
Tatiana thought. She pushed aside her idea of ghosts and believed that it was Aaron who visited her. However, at the back of her mind, she can’t help but feel like it’s not Aaron. For some reason, the man from last night felt...different.
“Ah!" Mia exclaimed when remembered something. She took out an envelope from her pocket. "The butler wanted me to give you this, my lady,” Mia said and gave Tatiana the envelope.
Tatiana furrowed her brows and accepted it.
The letter only has her name, so she doesn’t know who the sender is.
“It was left on the gate, and a knight found it. Your name was written on it, so they figured it was for you, my lady.” Mia explained.
Tatiana opened the letter and read its contents.
.
Dear J,
It’s me, Kai. How have you been? I found out from the royal ball that you’re the Lady Anastasia Monique Tatiana of House Cromello. Ah, should I call you my lady too? I guess I’ll have a hard time getting used to it.
Anyways, I know you have a reason for hiding it, but I just want you to know that I can understand no matter what it is. I really hope we could meet and talk about it. Also, I have to tell you something as well.
Your Best friend,
Kai.
.
Tatiana was stunned after reading.
Kai... He found me...
How did he know? It’s been weeks since she last saw Kai after saving the kid, Jonas. She was still mulling over why he didn’t join the knight’s exam, and now, he found her.
Tatiana read the letter again and pondered over what she needs to do.
Right, the best thing to do right now is to meet and ask him personally...
“Mia, bring me some papers and a pen.”
