CHAPTER 35
Kai went out of the conference room feeling anxious. When Tatiana asked him a favor, he thought he could do anything. However, he didn’t expect it would turn out like this. He didn’t expect he would have to actually fight against those assassins, and worst, he has to fight against some royal knights too.
Even if he’s just a small man from the South, he knows very well how skilled the royal knights of the empire are. His one-year training with J was not enough for him to defeat them.
Kai ruffled his hair in frustration. He can’t do anything now as what’s done is done. What he needs to do is to think of a plan for tomorrow.
Right. First, I have to meet Tatiana.
Meanwhile, Noah was waiting for him outside the hall while leaning against the wall.
“What’s your plan now, Arder?” he asked when he saw Kai go out.
Kai jumped in shock.
“Ah, your highness!” When Kai saw it was Noah, he immediately bowed his head.
Noah walked closer to him.
“Are you confident you’ll win tomorrow?” Noah asked again.
It took Kai a moment before he nodded slightly and nodded.
“O-of course, your highness. W-why wouldn’t I be?” Kai managed to answer and followed it with a nervous laugh.
Noah remained silent and only stared at him.
I wonder how you’ll pull it off? You’re not Tatiana. He thought to himself.
“I see. Then, good luck,” he said and walked away.
Kai sighed in relief. He composed himself before walking to leave as well.
Kai went to see Tatiana later that night. He made certain that he did it quietly and that no one was following him.
“What are we going to do now, J?” he asked Tatiana. There are now inside the drawing-room, sitting across each other.
Tatiana had already heard the news from Aaron this morning. She expected them to arrange something to prove Kai's abilities, but she didn't anticipate he'd have to fight against the royal knights too.
Despite Tatiana's faith in Kai's ability to easily defeat them, given that he was destined to be one of the empire's most competent knights in the novel, the issue was Kai's confidence. Kai lacks the self-confidence he needs to win the fight because he hasn't been exposed to a real fight yet, let alone been able to take the knight's exam.
If he could just have a little confidence in himself, then there would be nothing to worry about.
“Hmm...what do you think, Kai? Can you handle them? Because I know you can.” Tatiana said.
Kai was hesitant and shook his head.
“I-I don’t know, J... I mean, you trained me for a year, but I still don’t think I can do it. Training and tomorrow’s battle are completely different. I don’t know how I can beat them all alone.” he said all gloomy.
Tatiana sighed.
This won’t do.
If Kai will continue to act like this, he really won’t be able to do it. What he needs is a little push—a motivation.
But, how should I motivate this man?
Tatiana thought about it very deeply. Then, she got an idea.
She stood up and looked at Kai with a wide smile. Kai looked at her confusedly.
“What you need is a boost, and I know the perfect way to do it! Let's go!” Tatiana said enthusiastically.
Kai, who was still puzzled, slowly stood up. “Where are we going?” he asked.
“We’re going to have a last-minute training, of course!” Tatiana answered and grinned.
