I decided to stay over for dinner, though the discomfort still hung in the air after I told Talrun I wasn’t sure I was staying or not.
To be honest, I’d even surprised myself by saying that. I’d kind of been assuming I’d stay the whole time, but when it came time to actually make a choice, I couldn’t commit.
And what did that say about me, that I couldn’t commit to this amazing man who’d done so much for me? Who’d shown me what true love was like?
And on top of that, how could I take his child away from him? If I went back to Earth, it was likely that he’d never see either of us ever again. Maybe far in the future, after the occupation, when Daqtarians were allowed to leave the planet again. But I couldn’t count on that.
