Brocken to pieces
She walked lazily through the streets, her blue eyes shinning and glittering in the afternoon sun. Her dark hair attracted the crowd, as it always did. She felt several eyes on her as she walked, eyes that she didn’t want to know the owners. What for anyway? It was after a long and tiring day, a perfect time for her to visit her boyfriend, Johnnie. She looked forward to seeing him in his house, hug him, tell him how she missed him, be cuddled by him, and have a good evening to forget about the tiring day.
Johnnie’s house was hers, she always checked in and out any time whenever she wanted, and without knocking. But this time round, she wished she never entered this house, she wished she had never known the owner of the house, Johnnie. The surprise and disbelief that she saw was too much to let her move from the spot she was standing. All her trust, love and love she had for her boyfriend mixed and started turning bitter and sour to her tongue, while all the pleasure she always felt with Johnnie slowly turned into agony and anguish and pain. She looked at the two figures in bed with so much pain that she couldn’t utter even a word.
If the earth could crack and the opening swallow her up, it could be such a big favor to her, other than facing the torture of seeing the love of her life with another woman in bed. A sharp pain ran through her back muscles, she felt like she was going to pass out. How could the world be this unfair? How could she loose someone she dearly loved with her life? Wasn’t she that beautiful than all other girls like he had told her?
“Kate… “he called with desperation in his voice. He wanted to explain but his mind had no appropriate explanation, rather than him being a betrayer, liar, womanizer, trash, a failure… .. he wanted her to call her all those and many more. Sweat came from all over his naked body, as her watched her silent face turn pale with hate and anger.
Him of all people knew how much she loved, adored, cared and trusted him. The torture she was going through was very clear in his heart and mind, he wished he could turn back time to take away her pain. Something pushed him to arise and hold her, but he just couldn’t do it, he had no much energy. If she could cut him into pieces, he could not say no, he deserved the worst punishment in the world. He wanted her to say anything, but she looked blankly at him. She lifted her hand like she wanted to say something, instead she walked away and closed the door behind her.
Quickly he put on his shorts and shirt and ran after her. “If you leave me I will actually die, “he shouted at her. He had never loved anyone as much as he loved her. From childhood she was the only girl he adored and loved. If she went away life could loose meaning, and be like an empty Castle. Not now.. when she saw him approaching, she increased her pave and eventually broke into a run without even looking over her shoulder. It was clear she wanted to be miles away from him.
She did not mind to wipe off her tears as she moved away from an angel that had suddenly Becky a devil to her. She wanted the world to see her tears, and feel her pain and share her betrayal with her. He was too quick for her , came before her, kneeled down explaining and talking all the nonsense that she didn’t even hear. A she could see was his mouth opening but she couldn’t hear a word he said. How could what he did be explained? Was there anything else apart from the obvious?
Questions were many in her mind; had he been pretending to be loyal when he screwed women around? How can someone she loved break her into a thousand pieces that can never be put together? How could she look at people knowing that he had chosen another girl over her? With those thoughts, the only thing she could do was walk away without saying anything.
Truth is, that’s not want he wanted, loose the best girl of his life. Things just happened the way they did, his first time to engage with another girl, and followed another first thing, loosing the trust of a girl who trusted him ever since she was two years old. He couldn’t look himself in the mirror, disappointment was in his eyes. He couldn’t walk out of his house, he thought the whole world knew he had cheated on his girlfriend. He spent most of the time indoors and wished he had never tried what he did. All world seemed to be crumbling down at his feet, he couldn’t face the reality that was lurking in the air. The reality that maybe, he could never be together with Kate again, unless a miracle happened and changed her attitude towards him.
After a year, Johnnie healed of the pain caused by loosing the best person and was now ready to move on. The guilt that had put him in strong claws started lessening their hold and slowly letting him be free. He now accepted fully that he messed up, and he will never fix the mess, unless a miracle happened, which he never believed exists. But even though, he never forgot Kate, however much he tried to.
Memories of her touch were raw and the sensation of the same seemed too real sometimes. Times when the whole party could be brought to silence, and voice’s of amazement from people’s mouths as he entered with Kate in his arms. She was the most beautiful girl in the school and every place they ever went together. All these memories of her reminded him of one thing, he missed her very much.
