The Ceo who never looked at her
Chapter one
Amara had always believed that loving someone was supposed to make you feel alive.
She was beginning to wonder if love could also make you disappear.
She sat alone in her apartment that night, staring at the photograph on her phone.
Adrian Cole.
Her boss.
Her impossible love.
She had spent months convincing herself that she could control her feelings. She couldn't.
Every time he walked into the office, her heart betrayed her. Every time he spoke to her, she remembered his voice for hours afterward. Every time she saw him laughing with someone else, she felt a strange ache settle inside her chest.
But there was one truth she couldn't escape.
Adrian wasn't interested in women.
And no matter how much she wished otherwise, she couldn't change that.
Amara placed the phone face down.
"Enough," she whispered.
But her heart didn't listen.
She opened the old journal again.
The strange pages contained the story of a transformation—an almost mythical ritual that could alter the physical form of a person.
It should have sounded absurd.
Instead, Amara couldn't stop thinking about it.
She imagined walking into the office as someone completely different.
Someone Adrian might actually notice.
Someone he might want.
The thought made her stomach twist.
Because beneath the excitement was a question she was afraid to answer.
If I have to become somebody else for him to love me, would that love even belong to me?
She closed the journal.
For several minutes, she simply stared at her hands.
These were her hands.
Her face.
Her body.
Her life.
She had spent twenty-two years becoming Amara Williams.
Could she really throw all of that away because one man didn't love her back?
"No," she whispered.
Then she remembered Adrian's smile.
And her resolve weakened.
Maybe she wouldn't be throwing herself away.
Maybe she was only borrowing another identity.
Just temporarily.
Just long enough to get close to him.
Just long enough to find out what it felt like to be loved by the person she couldn't forget.
At least, that was what she told herself.
The following morning, she stood before the mirror.
Her reflection looked frightened.
"If you do this," she whispered to herself, "you can't pretend you don't know what you're risking."
She touched her reflection.
For a moment, she wondered what Adrian would see if he ever knew the truth.
Would he feel betrayed?
Would he hate her?
Would he laugh?
Or worse...
Would he look at her with pity?
A tear slipped down her cheek.
Amara wiped it away.
She didn't want pity.
She wanted to be seen.
That was the cruelest part of everything.
She had spent so long wanting Adrian to notice her that she had forgotten to notice herself.
Still, she made the choice.
Not because she believed it was right.
Not because she was certain.
But because she was desperate enough to believe that love might be waiting on the other side of the person she was about to become.

The next morning, Aaron Williams walked into Cole International.
Nobody recognized Amara.
The transformation had worked.
But instead of feeling victorious, she felt hollow.
Every step through the lobby felt like she was walking away from the person she had been.
Then the elevator doors opened.
Adrian stood inside.
Their eyes met.
Amara's heart stopped.
For months, she had dreamed about this moment.
Adrian looked at her differently now.
Curiously.
Interested.
"You're Aaron?" he asked.
She forced herself to nod.
"Yes."
He smiled.
"Welcome to Cole International."
Two simple words.
Yet they shattered something inside her.
Because for the first time, Adrian was looking at her.
And he had no idea who she really was.
Amara stepped into the elevator.
The doors closed.
She looked at her reflection in the polished metal.
Aaron stared back.
And for the first time, she wasn't sure whether she wanted Adrian to fall in love with her...
or whether she wanted to become Amara again.
