Daniel part 10

So Gary was right. Big deal.

For the rest of the day, Daniel did things that were more important, such as cleaning his room—a place that hadn’t been tidy for God knows how long—he ignored his brother’s text messages, he lifted some weights to offset the junk he’d been eating, and when he was tired by lunchtime, he gave himself a break. He opened a bottle of beer and spent some time in the Jacuzzi while watching a game on his tablet. After that, he took a nap that extended until the afternoon and at that point, it was just too late to do anything else productive.

The day was much like the others before it. Daniel was the best at finding things to do in order to avoid the things that he actually had to. It was one of the many reasons he became close to his tenants—instead of working, he was always bumming around in the house to chat them up when they’re home, and help them run errands or fix personal problems. Only this time, no one was around.

Gary was probably working a gig, Jane was at her job in the zoo, Dustin was most likely dozing off in class, and Wells was at... somewhere, hopefully not doing something illegal. Daniel had long given up trying to pry into Wells's personal life, and no one else was having problems. The only one left was the new guy.

Daniel sat up straight on the couch at the thought of Josh. The man was new, didn’t seem to have any friends, and he had a proper job that could afford him a nicer living arrangement—Daniel was willing to be he had a trolley full of emotional baggage that he would want to unload, and who better to help him?

It was just out of concern and curiosity, and to heed the words of Jane. At least, that’s what he thought to himself to justify his attempt to put off actual responsibilities.

He checked the time then rushed off to put on a sweater and grab his keys—suddenly full of energy to spend on a different project.
