Chapter 3

It has been two and a half months since Alex helped me escape from the pack; since then, I have been able to put four states between me and my old pack. Since Red has been constantly healing my wounds, we didn't pick up sooner that we were pregnant. My belly now sticks out noticeably since Red thinks we are about four months pregnant now and due any time now. We have been on a mission to find a good place to make a den for our pup. It's not unheard of that a werewolf pregnancy is faster than a human pregnancy, so a werewolf pregnancy only lasts for five months, give or take. After some searching, we found a large tree stump that had a dip under it hidden by bushes, my paws dug and dug through the dirt until the hole was big enough for me to slip through the entrance, pulling the extra dirt out then continuing a little deeper under the stump until the inside was big enough for me to lay down or stretch out. With a whine, I make sure it is secure enough for me and the pup to pull some of the hay I had taken from a farm to spread around the den in a circle, along with some of my fur from shedding. Pawing around the loose fur I pulled from my coat to nest until my wolf and I were happy with our den. "Winter has ended, so there should be good prey to hunt now" Red piped in as I licked at my stomach in an attempt to ease the soreness and slight pain around my stomach. Perking up to look out the den hole, I sniffed the air. "I think there is, but we've got to be careful about the close packs and rogues; it's been getting bad lately." Red stiffened at the mention of the rogues, on guard, I crawled out of the den to sniff the air once more, as the scent of a deer tickled my nose like an invitation. I followed it, keeping my wide belly low to the ground to protect my pup, slowly following the scent until the deer stood a few feet in front of me, chewing on fresh grass, unaware of the danger it was in. Licking my chomps before jumping up from my hiding spot in the tall grass onto the back of the deer that screamed in surprise at my attack, not quick enough to fight back or run, as my teeth sank into its throat. Blood dripped into my mouth and down my chin as life in the deer faded. A happy whine vibrated in my throat as I licked at the open wound on the deer before tearing into the meat. Keeping my ears up and at attention as I ate until I had my fill, licking the blood from around my chin. My ear twitched at the sound of moving water a few minutes away. Quietly making my way through the woods, I came across the stream, dipping my nose and paws in to clean the blood off my fur before lapping at the cold water that was thawing from the ice. Licking my muzzle, looking up at the sky, the sun was gonna be going down soon "Let's go back to the den, Lucy." Red chipped in anxiously because you didn't want to be out in the woods after dark, cause of the rogues. Running back to the den, Squeezing under the bush that made a curtain over the opening of the den. Lying down to get comfortable, licking at my paws and belly "How many pups do you think we have?" I asked Red who has become very protective of her pup or pups. "I think two, maybe three, but not sure" Red barked happily in my head, shaking her tail with the excitement of the possibility of having more than one pup. I'm happy too, even though they were made from the actions of my old alpha, I'm not gonna blame them for something they didn't do. Given that I am close to my due date, I can't shift with the possibility of hurting the pup or pups, so I stay in wolf form, which I also don't have an issue with either. Red thought it would be easier if we stayed in our wolf form so we could blend in better, and it's easier to move if we needed to. Red hasn't been talkative when we were locked away, but now that we escaped, she has opened up her mind to me again. The sound of rain snapped me out of my thoughts. Thankfully, the den wouldn't get flooded since one of the roots covered the edge of the den to keep the water out, as light flashed, followed by the sound of cracking, making me jump, pushing my body deeper in the den. With a sigh, I closed my eyes in the hope of getting some sleep. Days later, I was woken to Red yelling at me in my head, barking and scratching for me to wake up "It's time, Lucy." Those words quickly kicked whatever sleep was still in my system out, leaning down, I licked at my stomach with a whine, Red nudging at my mind in comfort. I nodded through the pain, a labored breath leaving my mouth every few seconds, followed by whines. Hours later, a yell of pain echoed the den, followed by pushing and later bore two pups, a girl and a boy. I licked the pups clean as they nursed, earning whines from their small bodies, the girl had light brown fur mixed with a bit of grey and white tipped ears. Her name is Mirelle. The boy was a darker brown than his sister Mirelle, carrying the same white tipped ears as her, but had a white back left paw, his name is Aaren. They yawned and pushed against each other to cuddle against my stomach, my tail wrapped behind them to keep them warm and protected. Days blended into weeks, it was mid-morning when the sound of chirping woke me up, yawning, the pups were already away and searching for my n*****s, making soft noises in search. Nudging their heads to me, they were quick to find the spot, latching on with a light grip. Looking out of the den it was almost silent, no predators around, which made it easy for when I climbed out of the den after the pups ate their fill, stretching my aching body, I looked back at my pups who curled into each other for a nap. Feeling anxious to leave my pups, I opted to stay close to the den my nose went to the ground to sniff for a prey smell. Picking up on a recent rabbit scent, I follow it close to the river that I was by a few days ago, the scent disappears in the water, and continues past the stream. Looking around, I listen for any predators before continuing the path, where I find a group of rabbits eating. Lowering my body, I watch for a few seconds before giving chase to the rabbit that looked the biggest, alert, it just jumped up from its spot and ran deeper into the woods, I take off after it with a growl. It only took me a few minutes to catch up and snag it by the throat, its movement wild unit I bit down hard, ending its life. Setting it down, I licked my lips before looking around, listening for any movements until a growl emerged from behind me. Looking behind me, I see a grey wolf with its sights on me, angry. "Red, did we pass the pack lines?" I asked her, quickly grabbing my kill and running back towards the way I came. The wolf howled, alerting other wolves "I take that as a yes" Red replied with a growl as other wolves howled in response. Great, he alerted the pack that I was here. Growling and snapping at the heels of my paws, earning a growl back as I jumped over the stream, as more wolves joined the chase greaaaat. Looking to my left as a wolf goes to body slam me, I quickly skid to a stop, letting the male wolves slam into each other before taking off again through the trees. Sniffing the air, I could tell I was getting close to the den, speeding up to lose them so they would stay away from my pups as my motherly instinct kicked in, my ears lying flat against my head as I growled at the remaining wolves that still chased me. Gripping the dead animal in my mouth as the wolves ganged up on me, my sore muscles kicking in when I dropped the rabbit in front of the den and turned around, snapping at the wolves when I could hear the cries of my pups. Baring my teeth, I tore into the thigh of the closest male, drawing blood as he yelled and snapped at me, biting harder until I felt the bone break, throwing him to the side before backing up to the den so no wolf snuck in while I was distracted. In the corner of my eye, one of the dark-furred males stalked closer, growling, I jump at him next, grabbing him by the neck with my bloody teeth to give him a message go the f**k away hoping he was smart enough to get the message. Teeth tore into my hind, yelping, I dropped the male and attacked the male who had his teeth in me, ranking my back paw against his chest, pushing him away from my body. To my right were howls announcing the arrival of support from the pack, followed by seven wolves setting their sights on me while the middle wolf looked around, then at me, my den, then back at me again, listening to the whines and cries coming from the hole calling for their mother. Taking the chance to back up against the den as the middle male began to shift, it was too late when he realized the situation as another wolf attacked me, I grabbed and yanked at fur to get the wolf away, to protect my children. Growls and cries left my muzzle as I bit harder and shook my head to get the male to submit, to back down. "Jack, back down!" the now naked man yelled, running towards us, but Jack didn't submit as he bit into my neck as the man yelled, attempting to pull the wolf off me. After finally getting him to let go, he was thrown back with a yelp as blood dripped down my fur, limping back to my den to the much louder cries once the pups heard the growling and yelling. "Call the alpha" the man said to another who also turned. Crawling into my den, I licked at my pups, letting them know I was there and okay, wrapping my body around them to shield them from the wolves outside. "I told you to stop! Couldn't you see that was her den!" the first male yelled at the wolf they called Jack, with the snapping of bones, Jack growled back a response. "It's a rogue! I was protecting the pack from the rogue, who had gone mad!" Jack shouted, refusing to listen to the words the other man yelled at him. The first man was pissed "yes, she may be a rogue, but she's also a mother! A mother protecting her pups from the very threat that you see her as, those pups will see you just like that as well" I froze at his words, those were not the words of a man who hated rogues, that was a man who still empathized with rogues even if they were not in his pack. Mirelle and Aaren cried lightly, gripping their paws into my belly as they fed slightly frightened by the yelling, as I licked their cheeks before turning my eye back to the shouting. They continued to yell at each other, one trying to prove right from wrong while the other tried to seem bigger, until everyone went quiet as wolves lowered in submission, and the men lowered their necks when I knew the alpha was here, not my alpha but theirs. A growl echoed through the air as the two men backed away from each other, Red perked up to sniff the air, then happily howling in my head "Mate here, our Mates here!" My eyes widened surprised. I waited till my pups were finished eating to nudge them in the fur and slowly look out the hole when a tall brown furred male wolf walked out of the tree line, his wolf beautiful, and walked with confidence. Lifting his head, he smelled the air before following the smell till his eyes landed on me, freezing in his spot I watched his body shift from wolf to man, standing naked as the day he was born. He kept his gaze on me, a possessive growl filled the air as he finally spoke "Mate".
