Chapter 14…Escape
We forgot everything and ran toward the tunnel. But when we got there, we remembered a few things and stopped. Pete’s reaction came quickly.
“Jump through! Go ahead. Your dad must be plenty worried. I’ll stick here and wait.”
But I couldn’t do it. “No, I’ll wait too.”
What Pete had said about Dad worrying hit me, though. I suddenly realized he was there in the laboratory, playing it blind. Why hadn’t we thought to send him a message?
Desperately, I looked around for something to send, hoping maybe it would get there. The easiest thing to rip loose was my watch. I slid it off my wrist and tossed it through the ring, and at the same time, something came back. Another letter.
The ring faded out.
