1087 Words
Dora was feeling too excited that the weekend was over. And guess what? It's Monday! She couldn't contain how happy she was that the day she was finally going to meet her boss, Mr Alvin Ailey had come. She had pressed her clothes the previous day, polished her heels, and she was looking presentable for the day. She stared at herself at the mirror, acknowledging her beauty. "You know, Dora, you're good to go." She said to herself, taking a deep breath. "Don't feel too nervous, he's a human just like you are." She took her bag from the bed, heading out of the room. She made sure she got to the office ten minutes earlier than she used to, cleaned her office, and got her desk arranged. She likewise went to Mr Alvin's office, she was able to access the door with the spare key Mr Hyde had given her. She made sure every thing we're in order, cleaned both the desk and the floors. She rushed down to the flower store across the road to buy a flower which she kept on Mr Alvin's desk. She gave the room a one last glance before leaving for her office. Mr Hyde was just in time. He went to check Mr Alvin's office only to find it well arranged. "It can only be Dora." He smiled He called for a brief meeting with the staff, informing them to maintain decorum among themselves. He went further to say, "The boss is on his way now, I expect you all to do your best to make him happy. It's been a while since he came here, so I want him to leave with excitement." "Again, I won't entertain unnecessary movements or distractions. After the boss is being welcomed, you all are expected to return back to your duties. Understood?" "Yes, boss." They chorused. "Dora, I'd love to have a brief word with you after this meeting." Mr Hyde said. "Yes, boss." After he had acknowledged the staff, he dismissed them. Dora goes to meet him to hear what he has to say. "You'll be the boss's acting secretary for the meantime. Miss Jones won't be able to make it to work this week. So, you'll be taking her place." "No problem, sir." Dora was just so determined to be Mr Alvin's acting secretary. But the question is, why the sudden desperation? When Mr Alvin finally got to the office, Dora's curiosity turned to nervousness. Her heart was beating so fast. Is this fear or just being nervous? They all stood out of their office to welcome the boss. Dora and Mr Hyde stood before the doorstep of Mr Alvin's office. From afar, they had started welcoming him. Mr Hyde noticed how nervous Dora was, she asked. "Are you scared?" He asked "No, just nervous." "First time meeting the boss?" He asked again. "Yes." She replied with a nod. "I see. But don't worry, Mr Alvin doesn't bite." He assured her. She took in a deep breath, exhaling heavily. "You can do this, Dora." Her eyes met with the dark blue hazel eyes who just looked from Mr Hyde's direction to hers, and for the first time she felt goosebumps surface on her skin under the look of one man. Some one she hasn't met before. Her heart skipped a beat, and she felt sparkles ignite inside of her. "Good morning, Mr Alvin." She greeted. "Good morning,..." She responded, indirectly seeking for her name. "It's Dora. Dora West." "Mrs Dora West." "It's Miss West for now." He waved her a small smile. Mr Hyde opened the door for him to enter, they followed after. He sat comfortably in his black leather chair. "So tell me, Mr Hyde, how is the business going?" He asked. "Quite well, sir. We've documented the files from the last two weeks." He looked at Dora. "Miss West, please get the files from my office." He requested. "Yes, sir." She quickly left the office to Mr Hyde's. She packed the files all together, heading back to the office. "Here it is, sir." She said, dropping it on his desk. His eyes met the scar on her wrist. "What happened to your wrist?" He asked. She chuckled, holding her wrist. "It's nothing serious. I got the scar years ago when I was a kid." "You gotta be careful." "I'll keep that in mind, sir." She excused them, leaving the office. Mr Alvin was very much interested in the scar, it really did get his attention. It looked new and fresh like it had only happened to her a month ago or two. "How long have she been working here?" He asked Mr Hyde. "Six months." "What happened to my secretary?" "She's settling with some family issues. But she'll be back to work by next week. Miss West is the best staff member who can do the job, that is why I made her as the acting secretary while we wait for Miss Jones to return." He nodded his head. He went through the files, he was pleased with what he was seeing. "More investment will be made by the beginning of next month. I want every activity done within this month recorded and submitted before the 31st. " "Yes, sir." "You're free to leave now." "Is there any thing I can do for you?" Mr Hyde asked. "Not really. I'll just go through this first." Mr Hyde made his way to the door when Alvin's voice stopped him. "And again, I want Miss West on the secretary desk from today." Mr Hyde was surprised but didn't express it. He never expected Alvin would sign her in for the duty without any interview or the normal test they always undergo. "I will let her know as soon as I leave." He was happy for Dora's sake. She never ceases to make him proud. Alvin smiled as soon as Mr Hyde left his office. That mark. It really caught his attention. That mark, he can't forget it. He never expected he would finally come face to face with her. For years he had lived with regrets, questioning himself why he couldn't kill her when he had the chance to. Now she has grown, he didn't believe she'd have the mark still on her hand. No wonder why the mark kept calling him from afar. Not because she was close, but because she worked in his office and there was every chance for him to have her, to take her.
