05~ Mate

Dora kept scratching her wrist. The mark had started to hurt her. Mr. Hyde entered, and he met her, roughly rubbing her wrist. "I think it's time you go to your doctor for that." He suggested. Dora looked at him, she stopped scratching her wrist. “I'm fine. It happens most times.” She smiled. “Wasn't expecting to see you.” “I thought I should come to say hello.” Dora raised an eyebrow at him. “I have good news for you, though.” “What good news.” She asked, looking interested to know. “The boss has promoted you to his new secretary. He wants you on the desk as of today.” He notified. Dora stared speechless at him. How is that possible? No interview, no exams, just a sudden promotion? She wasn't even perfect the way Miss Jones does the work, but then… Did he just give her the position? “What about Miss Jones?” She asked. “What about her?” “I was expecting you to ask that.” “You can just push her away from her position.” “I didn't propose the idea of having you in her place, the boss did. We can't do anything about it, so I guess she'll have to take your position then.” A part of Dora felt excited about the news, while another part felt this wasn't right. Miss Jones was currently attending a family issue, she hadn't left because she wanted to. But again, it's Mr. Alvin's decision, what can she do? “You should be happy.” He said. “Of course, I am happy.” She sighed. “I still think Miss Jones deserves the best.” “You don't have to worry about her, I will explain to her when she returns on duty.” “If you say so.” She said just to make Mr. Hyde feel relaxed, but inside of her, she still felt this wasn't fair. Mr. Hyde stayed for an extra five minutes before leaving for his office. Not quite long, Myra walked in, looking excited. Dora glared at her confused. “You won a lottery?” Dora asked her. “Congratulations!” She screamed. Dora furrowed her brows, still in her confusion. “What for?” She asked. “What for?” Myra asked back. “Mr. Hyde told us the news.” “What news?” “For f**k sake, Dora, don't tell me you're having memory loss already.” She grunted. “Oh. You mean the promotion?” She recalled. “What exactly were you thinking?” She sat comfortably on the guest chair. “I didn't let that bother me, that's why.” She sounded cold. “You don't seem happy about it.” Myra noticed her countenance. “It feels more like a cheat. Just because Miss Jones isn't around doesn't mean she doesn't deserve better.” “Quit the thought, Dora, the boss must have a reason for choosing you. But, just in case you don't want the position, you can just give it to me, I can work in your place.” “I wish I could.” “Shut up and appreciate the job. Everyone has been wanting for such an opportunity, you have one, grab it and stop bothering about what others would feel.” After a brief silence, Dora started. “It has started again.” She said, changing the topic. “What has started again?” Myra asked, looking concerned. “The mark, it hurts.” She complained, rubbing her wrist. That very part had turned red, and it was itching her inside. She would blow air on it with her mouth, trying to ease the pain. “Since when has it been hurting you?” Myra asked. “Just this morning. After we had all welcomed the boss, it just started.” “You need to meet your doctor and explain this to him. Maybe the saliva of the wolf remains in your veins. Something has to be done about this.” “I'll see what I can do about it. I pray this new position won't take all my time.” While they were still discussing, My Hyde came to inform Dora that Mr. Was calling her. “The boss wants to see you, " He informed her. Dora exchanged glances with Myra, who winked at her. She adjusted her skirt before making it out of her office. She walked behind Mr. Hyde, feeling nervous to face the boss. “You don't have to feel nervous, he just wants to ask you a few questions, that's all.” Dora heaved heavily. “I'm calm now.” She said after taking a deep breath. “I'll leave you with him. Don't feel so nervous around him.” She nodded her head. “I won't.” He then opened the door for her to enter. Dora tried her best to maintain comportment so as not to express how nervous she still was. “You called me, sir.” She stood before his desk. Mr. Alvin, who was busy with his laptop, raised his gaze at her. “Yes, I did.” He pushed the files to her front. “I have gone through it, you've done an excellent job.” He complimented. Dora blushed at his praise. “Mr. Hyde must have sent you my message.” “Yes, he did.” “I guess he didn't tell you what I love every morning too.” “No, he didn't.” “I love the hot coffee, and morning roses on my desk every morning. Maybe these two will do it for now.” “I'll keep that in mind, sir.” “You may leave now.” “Thank you, sir.” She walked out of the office. Alvin watched her leave, and he noticed her wrist was red. He knew she was feeling the reaction of the mark, but why didn't she smell like a wolf to him? She was a human, a weak one. But there's something he still doesn't understand about her. He was coming to complete what he couldn't do that night, but now that he had met her face-to-face, he just couldn't. The urge to kill her is gone, a different urge has suddenly risen inside of him, and he just can't take his eyes off her. She smelled differently. Not just the smell of an ordinary human girl. She smelt like one his wolf had longed for. It growled hungrily, a feeling of want for the girl. “Mate.” It growled again.
