Alsie POV-
“Pizza anyone?” Evander asked with a smile stretching from ear to ear.
“Are you OK with this?” I asked Andrew, slightly concerned after the conversation we had just had.
“Yea. I am, it’s good to see my brothers.” Andrew replied, looking down at me and smiling.
“Why do you have pizza and bags?” I asked, but I pretty much knew why.
“Uh…can we get off the doorstep?” Osiris asked, looking around.
“Oh, my fault. Yea, let’s go put all this pizza on the counter. Then we can continue this conversation.” I said with more excitement in my voice than I intended.
The four of us walked to the kitchen and quickly discovered that the four of us were not going to fit in the kitchen. Si, put some of the pizzas on the counter, Ev and Andrew went to the dining room table. Si and I followed behind with plates, napkins, sodas, and the remaining pizzas.
“This is a lot of pizza.”
“We’re a lot of wolf Sweetness.” sighed Evander.
Luckily, my dining table was a good size and had four captain’s-style chairs. The boys could fit in my dining room at least. I don’t know how the rest of my place was going to fit them. Problems for a later time. I was happy they were here.
Osiris grabbed a couple of pieces of pizza, put them on his plate, opened a soda and said, “Andrew told us last night that he was with you, before he blocked us out. When he didn’t come down for breakfast, and we still couldn’t link him, we went up to his room. We noticed the bed hadn’t been slept in. It didn’t take much to realize that he had stayed here with you.”
“OK, yes, he did. It was nice. Why are there three large black duffel bags in my hallway?”
“Because he doesn’t get you all to himself, Sweetness.” answered Evander.
“This is going to take some getting used to.”
“Get used to it, Sweetness. This is for the rest of our lives, if we are indeed mates.” commented Evander.
“IF!” roared Andrew. “I have loved her for as long as I can remember. I have always wanted to protect and provide for her. If you haven’t felt that way, then this whole triplet Alpha thing is over. I don’t want to be Alpha Andrew if I can’t have her as Luna! You can be Alpha Evander and Alpha Osiris, and I will just be Andrew, mate of Detective Alsie Neferet. I purred last night! I f*****g purred, she is my mate. I don’t care if the initial bond isn’t present. I know it! I told you two she was our mate before our trip to the city!”
“Hey Andrew, calm down. We know she is our mate. I’ve felt the same as you have for years. The issue is, the three of us never discussed our feelings for her. We tried to hide them, like it was wrong. Then our 18th birthday came, no mate bond, not to her, not to anyone else. After our discussion with dad last night, we know why, and it is more likely than not that on all of our 25th birthdays the bond will become evident, and show itself.”
My head perked up, I looked over at Osiris, trying to make sense of what he was saying, but also still trying to wrap my head around what Andrew had just blurted out. “Excuse me? What are you talking about Si?”
Evander grabbed himself another slice of pizza, sat back in his chair and said, “No time like the present to tell you some life-changing truths, Sweetness.”
“Life changing?”
“Yep, and past crushing.” Evander said, chewing bites of pizza.
My phone rang. The last thing I wanted to deal with right was that damn phone. But I knew I had an open investigation, and that investigation was important to me and the pack.
“Detective Alsie” I answered.
“Hey Als, glad I reached you. Do you have a minute and a wi-fi connection that’s secure? I know it’s your day off, but I need you to log in to your case files and look at the pics I sent over.”
“Sure Sarah, but you’re supposed to be off too.”
“I know, I am working from home, kinda like you. I got a notification that Kyle had dropped some info into the Club 8 case, so I took a look at it. I’m confused, and I’m hoping you have an answer or at least a way to get an answer.”
“OK, hold on, let me grab my laptop and load it up.”
I put my phone on speaker as I grabbed my laptop and opened it up.
“So Als, have you seen or talked to those gorgeous hunks of men that keep showing up? You know the ones you’re totally infatuated with and have had a crush on since god knows when. Lucky you, you have three beautiful, tall, muscular men in your life that you are madly, secretly in love with…tough life.” Sarah laughed into the phone.
My face flushed, and I couldn’t move for a quick second. I kept my head down, moved to my couch, sat on the middle cushion, pulled my coffee table to me and turned on my laptop. “Umm...the ones that are sitting at my dining table and just heard every word you just said because I put you on speaker while I loaded up my laptop?”
“Oh, you’re lying, Als, no way.”
“Yea, I’m not lying, thanks for that.”
“No way, is it possible they didn’t hear me?”
“No. We heard everything. Secretly in love with us? Good to know.” smiled Andrew.
I could feel my ears get hot. I was hardcore blushing.
“Anyway Sarah, I’ve got the file pulled up, what am I looking for?”
“The pics of the ID found in our victim’s wallet and the autopsy pics. Tell me when you’ve located them.”
“Got them up, looking. What am I looking at?”
“Double-check the face. You said you knew her, is that her?”
I looked over the face of both the ME’s pics and the enlarged copy of the ID found in her pocket. Something was off.
“Hey, guys? Come over here please? Is this Brook? I haven’t seen her in a while.” I asked, unsure of what I was looking at.
“No, that’s not her.” Osiris confirmed. "That is her ID, but that other photo is not of Brook. That’s her cousin Bethany.”
“She has a cousin?” asked Sarah.
“Yes, she has two brothers. I can’t remember their names. She and her brothers were a couple of years older than us. She has quite a few cousins. I remember Bethanny from the diner. She used to come in and bus tables before Alsie started working there. Brook’s cousins didn’t go to school with us. They didn’t live here on the packlands they were hybrids.”
“That’s good information. But what is a packland and what are they hybrids of?” questioned Sarah.
“My fault. Packland is what we call the area where a lot of us live, kind of like a compound. Hybrid is a slang term we use here for a person who has one parent from this area, and one parent from a different area of the state.” Osiris said as he exhaled quickly.
Nice cover. He was quick on his feet, with those explanations and they sounded believable.
“What is your name? I don’t think I can put one of Alsie’s smoking hot secret crush guys in my report.”
“You can’t put him in your report at all, Sarah. You’re going to have to label him a confidential informant, or just say you came across the information during the investigation,” I said, worried. I couldn’t let any harm come to the pack.
“Why?”
“It’s OK Alsie. My name is Osiris Sandolf.”
“Thank you, Osiris. I’ll be in touch if I have any more questions.”
“You’re welcome. Have a good evening.”
“Protective much Sweetness?” laughed Evander.
“We're going to the packhouse and speaking with your father NOW! I gave him my word that this investigation would not put the pack in any kind of danger from humans. Oh, and that meeting he wanted to have. We’re doing that now too.”
The triplets looked at me, then at each other. I was putting on my shoes, not caring that I was still in my gray sweatpants, and a white v-neck, T-shirt, that I threw on after my quick shower after breakfast.
“Casual dress code to meet with Alpha Kordell. Got, it. Little Luna.”
“Right now, I don’t care how I’m dressed. Let’s go.”
All four of us left my house and made our way to the packhouse. I had no idea that my life was about to be turned upside down and inside out.
