Alsie POV-
We made our way to the packhouse in silence. I had a lot to say about everything going on, but I wanted to make sure I saved my words for Alpha Kordell.
We were greeted by an Omega who was working a house shift. I couldn’t remember his name. “Good evening, Alphas, Alise.”
“Good evening.” The four of us replied in unison.
“Where is my father? We have some important things to discuss,” inquired Evander. He was good with the omegas. That has always been one of my favorite things about him.
“He’s in his office with Beta Jacob and a few others,” replied the helper. I wish I could remember his name.
I heard a snarl come from both Andrew and Osiris at the mention of Beta Jacob. That’s weird. I thought they all got along. Oh, well, things change daily, and it’s been a while since I’ve been in the packhouse. I looked over at Andrew, he looked in my direction and mouthed, "I hate him". That’s an interesting development.
“OK. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, Alpha Evander. Is there anything else I can do for you?”
“No, not at the moment. Have a good evening, Josh,” answered Evander.
Josh, right, that was his name. The four of us proceeded to the stairs and up to the Alpha’s office. When we got to the large door, Osiris knocked.
“Yes, please come in, all four of you.”
“We’re all coming in any way; nobody is standing in the hall,” replied Andrew aggressively.
“Ah, still mad and acting like a juvenile, I see.” laughed Beta Jacob.
Something isn’t right. Andrew is on edge, and Beta Jacob is being aggressive.
“What is she doing here? You three were told the rules. No contact with her!” growled Beta Jacob.
“You don’t tell me who I can and cannot interact with! Rules? I don’t have rules to follow. I’m an Alpha. You will treat me, my brothers, and her with the respect we are due. You have no idea why we are here, and why she is needed here at this very moment.” boomed Osiris in his alpha voice.
Clearly, something isn’t right, and I feel like I am the center of all the tension. I haven’t done anything to warrant this kind of backlash from Beta Jacob and I just spoke with Alpha Kordell a little over 24 hours ago. I’m so confused.
“Are you done?” I asked.
All five of them looked over at me. Andrew smiled that big mischievous grin of his.
“It’s my day off. I was enjoying it and my company. This is the last place I want to be. I would like to get this conversation over with and go about my day off. Days off are hard to come by for me, so if we could proceed that would be great.”
“How dare you come in here and make demands. Who do you think you are? Just because you walked in here with those three doesn't mean you have or get any special privileges. You will show our Alpha some respect.” barked Beta Jacob.
Before I could respond to Beta Jacob, Osiris, Evander and Andrew circled me with their backs to me, in a protective stance. I could feel the air tightening in the room, the room getting smaller. I noticed the triplets’ eyes go black, their fingernails elongating. They were on the cusp of shifting.
“STOP! All of you.” bellowed Alpha Kordell. I felt the room shake and heard the windows rattle with his words. Beta Jacob immediately started to kneel and show his throat, both signs of submission.
“Look Alpha, she doesn’t even submit to you.”
“Oh Jacob, she’s not supposed to,” replied Alpha Kordell.
That’s when I noticed it. I didn’t submit. The Alpha voice didn’t work on me. As I looked around, the only one of us shocked or bothered by that was Beta Jacob. Had the alpha voice ever worked on me, even as a child? I couldn’t recall a time in my life when I had willingly kneeled or showed my throat.
“That’s because you never have Alsie, the alpha voice doesn’t work on you. It holds no power over you,” answered Alpha Kordell.
“You read my thoughts? I’m part human, you’re not supposed to be able to do that.”
“I didn’t read your thoughts. We’re mind-linked. As of right now, it’s a one-way link. I can hear your thoughts, see what you see, feel what you feel.”
“How is that possible? I’m a human hybrid?”
“No, no you’re not. You are 100% wolf, and you are a strong, powerful wolf at that, one that has not been seen in generations.”
I laughed out loud, a hard stomach-hurting laugh. I went over and sat in a chair by the windows that faced the room and everyone in it. After I stopped laughing, and caught my breath, I looked at everyone in the room.
“OK, Alpha, talk. Spill it, all of it. Tell me everything about myself. No half-truths, no double-talk, no conjecture, nothing but the truth, all of it. Leave nothing out, leave no stone unturned.”
Andrew pulled a chair over to me, followed by Osiris. Evander grabbed a throw pillow from the couch, and walked behind me. He placed the pillow on the windowsill and sat on it.
“Before you start, am I going to hate you, Alpha? I don’t want to hate you.”
“No, I didn’t have a say in the things that happened before your parents died. I was against much of it. I’ve wanted to tell you everything since the day you were old enough to understand. But I was bound by a higher calling to follow the rules. In fact, there have been times when I’ve let things be said with you present in the hope that you would ask questions. I always told those who held the power, when it came to you, that I would never lie to you, and I would never intentionally, with purpose, keep secrets from you.”
“Thank you. I don’t know what you are about to tell me, but I will keep your words close to my heart. Please, start from the beginning. Tell me everything, no matter how bad or hurtful. I deal with death and despair daily. I can handle it.”
“You’re making a huge mistake Alpha, we can stop all of this from happening,” snarled Beta Jacob.
“Leave my office at once Beta. You have once again defied my orders and shown a great amount of disrespect to me and my sons.”
I sat in my chair quietly, wanting to hear what I was about to be told, but also hoping things wouldn’t change too drastically for me. I guess if it did, I could just move closer to my job and away from the pack.
Alpha Kordell’s head snapped toward me, quickly. “No, that is not an option, Alsie. I cannot let that happen. The future of the pack would be in dire straits.”
“This is just weird. Having you in my head is weird. I’m so confused.”
“I understand that Alsie, but contemplating leaving the pack is an extreme thought when you haven’t heard what I have to say.”
“LEAVE! There is absolutely no way that is going to happen! If she does, I leave with her.” growled Osiris.
“I second that, Sweetness. You’re not getting away from me that easily.”
“Listen Little Luna, you know where I stand. I told you I’d give up my title and ride off into the sunset with you.”
“You three are acting crazy. We don’t know if we’re mates. This pack and leading it is your legacy. I’m just some type of something. You three are the Alpha Triplets of the Far-Side Moon Pack. I’m just good old Detective Alsie, who doesn’t quite fit in here and who doesn’t quite fit in with the humans either. As wonderful as it sounds, I won’t let any of you give up your legacy or do anything that will hurt the pack.”
“Alsie?”
“Yes, Alpha.”
“You four are mates. 100%, without a doubt, mates. Born to be together, tied together until death.”
