Alsie POV- The four of us walked back to my house at a leisurely pace. It was a nice night, and I wasn’t in a hurry to go home. I just didn’t want to be at the packhouse. “You’re awful quiet, Sweetness.” “I know, Ev. I’m thinking about everything Alpha Kordell said.” I sat down at a picnic table in the courtyard. Osiris and Andrew sat facing me on the bench seat opposite me. Evander sat down next to me. “It’s a lot, Little Luna.” “I know Andrew.” “You’re handling it all pretty well.” “No Si, I’m not. I’m processing. It’s something I’ve learned to do over the past few years. Keeping emotion out of it, only focusing on facts. It helps me do my job. I’m trying to use the same skill set to make sense of all this. My dad was my dad. There is no change in that information. Since there is no change in that information, I can set him and everything that pertains to him to the side. I don’t have to process anything new. It’s trying to understand everything about my mom that has me twisting in the wind. That was a lot of information all at once. It was kind of like when we get a report dump on a case. When we get toxicology, autopsy, phone records, and ballistic information back all at the same time. We have to sort through it all, find what is relevant and what isn’t. In this case, my dad is the irrelevant information, for now.” “But Sweetness, this is your life. Not a homicide case.” I chuckled quietly. “I know Ev, this is how I work through a lot of things and problems. It helps me keep things at a distance and not get sucked into the emotional aspect of it. If I let my emotions override my critical thinking, it will take longer to get to the conclusions that I need. I need answers, not rage, tears, or self-pity. Answers help get to the next phase of any issue.” “Is that even healthy? Mentally?” “I don’t know Si. I’ve been by myself most of my life and I’ve always liked problem-solving. I didn’t have a person close to me that I could trust 100%, so I came up with a way that works for me. This is it. Over the years, it has become a little compartmentalized. I know that. But it works. I do have the highest solve rate in my department. I will figure out what I need to figure out. I would’ve liked more information from Alpha Kordell tonight, but I know myself and I know I won’t be able to deal with much more. That was why I decided to leave. I’m grateful you three came with you. I didn’t want to be alone.” “Little Luna, can we go inside? I’m hungry” I laughed out loud. “Yes Andrew, we can.” The four of us got up from the picnic table and walked the fifty or so feet to my front door. As we reach the front steps, Andrew steps in front of me and pushes me back into Evander. Then he shifts into his wolf form in about two seconds, shredding his clothes as he shifts. Andrew bound into my home through the broken door. Evander grabs me by the arm and pulls me into him. Before I can say or ask anything, Osiris shifts effortlessly into wolf form. Oh goddess, his wolf is glorious. Evander takes me back to the warrior courtyard and sits me down at the picnic table we just left. “What’s going on?” I demand. “Silence Sweetness. I’m listening.” As soon as Evander finishes his silencing of me. I hear the howl of Osiris, calling for the warriors. I open my mouth to speak, and Evander holds up his hand and shakes his head. He mouths not yet to me. I close my mouth. I’ll wait. Not like I have any choice. I hear the return howl from the warriors, and I hear them running to the packhouse, to us, to the borders. They are getting in an attack position. Then I hear the Alpha howl. Whatever is going on, Alpha Kordell is going to be here, front and center, in about ten seconds. Evander still hasn’t shifted. I can tell he is fighting his wolf for control. Barrett wants to be in control and present. “Let him out.” “What?” “Let Barrett out. I’ll be fine. There’s Gamma Benji, have him come over.” “How did you…” Evander stopped midway through his question. “Your wolf is: Barrett, Osiris’s wolf is Ezekiel, and Andrew’s wolf is Kael. Right? I did get that right, right?” “What the f**k, Sweetness? How did you know that? Oh, that’s a mind-f**k and a half. I know for a fact that you have never met my wolf.” “If you say so, whatever. Just let him out. It’ll be easier on you.” With that, Evander shifts and Barrett is set free. Barrett is beautiful; He has dark brown fur with copper highlights, emerald-green eyes ringed in copper-colored flecks. Barrett and his brothers are bigger than your average alpha wolf because he and his brothers are Dire Wolves. The three of them are a sight to see. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. Then I heard it. Faintly, someplace in the back of my mind …”Mate”… I looked around to see if I could see who said that. Who is calling Evander Mate? I heard it again …”Mate”… It sounds as if it’s coming from me, but my lips are not moving. I’m not saying it. Barrett snapped his head in my direction. “Mate” there it is again. Barrett tilts his head from side to side and walks over to me. He sniffs me. “Mate” the voice says again. Barrett chuffs as he walks around me. Where is the voice coming from? Who is saying it? Why are they saying it? Alpha Kordell said we are mates and have been since we were young. “Mate” the mystery voice says again. Barrett whines, sniffs and continues to chuff as he walks circles around me. Ezekiel and Kael start to approach. Barrett stops circling me, looks in their direction and calls to them. The three of them are communicating. She knows our names. She knows who we are. That’s impossible. No way. She knows your name is Kael, mine is Barrett, and his is Ezekiel. She knows we’re mates. The triplets are talking via the mind-link. How come I can hear them? I shouldn’t be able to hear them. “Mates” the mystery voice purrs. Oh, my goddess! I am the one saying mate. No. Not me. My wolf. What did Alpha Kordell say her name was? Rana, yes Rana, that’s it. I have a wolf, and I can hear her. I have a f*****g wolf! Why can I hear her? Maybe it’s because my 25th birthday is near. Why can I hear them? “My mates. I missed you,” Rana says softly in my head. I watch as Ezekiel, Barrett, and Kael continue to chuff, sniff, and circle me. She smells delicious. We need to mark her. We need every wolf to know she is ours. “Absolutely NOT! You will not mark me while you are wolves. Not until I can shift. We will do this the right way. You hear me Ezekiel, Barrett, and Kael? I’m not messing around.” All three of those beautiful creatures turned and looked at me. Osiris shifted back into human form first. “You can hear us?” he asked, naked. “Yes, I could hear you. That was weird. You’re naked. Man, are you naked.” “Sweetness, how did you know our wolves’ names? How could you hear our mind-link?” “I don’t know Evander. What I do know is that you are naked too. So very naked, the two of you. Oh, I don’t know what I’m going to do with those. Andrew don't shift. There is a whole lot of naked here and I don’t want to see more. Well, I do. But I’m not ready.” I could feel my cheeks getting red. “Being naked is part of being a werewolf,” Evander said as he put his hands on his hips and turned around in a circle. “Your wolf said we are mates, Sweetness.” “I heard her. I was there. In fact, she’s still saying it. She won’t shut up about it. I wonder… Kael shift.” Just like that, Andrew was back in human form, also naked. “What the f**k, Little Luna? How did you do that?” asked Andrew, flabbergasted. “Do what?” “How did you make me shift? The current alpha can’t even command me to shift.” “What?” the three of us asked in unison. “Yea, I didn’t do that. You did. Kael was happy and content listening to Rana call us mate. I didn’t shift willingly. You said shift, and I shifted.” “Too many questions, not enough answers. I guess we have to go back to the packhouse and get more information. Hey, there’s Alpha Kordell now, it looks like he’s making his way here.” Alpha Kordell was walking towards us in his wolf form. I forgot how big and powerful Levi was. I wondered if the triplets’ wolves would be as powerful as Levi. “Tell him, Little Luna.” “What? You’re crazy,” I said. “No. I’m not. Tell him, tell all of us.” “OK Andrew, but this is insane. I think you shifted because you wanted to.” “No, I didn’t. Say it.” “All of you Shift.” I commanded and they did. The triplets who were in human form shifted back to their wolves and there was Alpha Kordell naked as a jay-bird in front of me.
