“ So…what did you say your name was?” Luke asked. Luke was the owner of Club Eighty Nine. Nayara had just arrived for the interview. Before she'd gotten there, she'd gotten rid of her suit jacket, folded her hair in half, undid two of her shirt buttons to show a little cleavage and loosened her tie. She needed to at least look the part she was going for.
Internally, she gulped at that question. She started rethinking. She wasn't cut out for these kinds of things. All she loved to do was to be by herself. She was too innocent to dance in front of people. But she had to do this…for Margaret.
“ Nayara Smith." She said with fake confidence. She straightened her posture and gave him a charming smile.
" So Nayara. You think you can dance well enough?” asked Luke, looking her up and down.
“ Yes sir. I can . I'm a really good dancer. " Nayara boasted. Technically she wasn't lying . She could actually dance but not the way he wanted her to.
" Well, since we're short on dancers and you seem like you know what you're doing, you're hired!” Said Luke extending his hand
Nayara shivered a bit and took his hand . She was happy she got the job but now she was nervous about the task ahead.
" Thank you so much, sir.” She replied
" Oh please. Call me Luke. You start tomorrow, 11pm sharp. Don't be late.” Said Luke.
Nayara nodded and walked out. That night she was on her computer, researching how to pole dance. She watched clips of movies, learned how to move her waist from dancers and watched actual online strippers. She took note of all of these and the next afternoon, she was in front of the mirror practicing her moves. It was kind of awkward watching herself move about. She pictured different men and or women gawking and drooling at her as she danced and that thought made her shudder a bit.
As she was still practicing, there was a knock on her door. Immediately she ran to her best and flipped open a book, pretending to read. Margaret walked in
“ Hi Nayara." Said Margaret and sat down on her bed
“ Hello, mum. How are you?" Nayara replied closing her book
“ I'm…okay love. I'm just checking up on you. Make sure you're doing okay. I know these days, things are hard but trust me everything will be fine. “ Said Margaret
Nayara gave her a weak smile and held her hand.
" I know. Thanks for everything. I'll make it up to you one day.” Said Nayara
" You don't have to . It's my job but I appreciate your understanding.” Margaret replied. She gave Nayara a hug and walked out. Nayara sighed and thought about what she was going to do to make ends meet on behalf of Margaret. She got up again and spent the next few hours dancing
