Chapter 1: A Coffee Spill and a Glare
The campus quad was always chaotic on Monday mornings, but Maya hadn't expected her first day back to start quite this disastrously.
"Watch out!" someone shouted a split second too late.
Before Maya could turn around, a warm wave of liquid soaked straight through her favorite jacket. She gasped, stumbling back a step as a white paper cup bounced off the pavement and rolled away. Her half-finished iced coffee was now a giant, sticky brown stain on her clothes.
"Are you blind?" Maya blurted out, glaring up at the tall figure standing in front of her.
The guy stopped in his tracks. Instead of apologizing, a slow, amused smirk crept across his face. He had messy dark hair, sharp eyes, and an expression that screamed trouble.
"Technically, I was running late," he said smoothly, his voice low and teasing. "Though I have to admit, crashing into you was a much better way to start the morning."
Maya stared at him, her jaw dropping. Unbelievable. Of all the people on campus, she had just run into the one guy everyone warned her to stay away from. She didn't know his name yet, but looking at the stubborn smirk still plastered on his face, she had a bad feeling this wouldn't be their last encounter.
