Chapter One: ‘Awake’
*Charlotte’s perspective*
I slowly opened my eyes, with a beam of light shining through the blinds. I didn’t know where I was, or how long I was here for, but I was awake. And being watched by four other people.
One of them was a young boy. I remembered his name, Josh. We’ve known each other since we were 7 years old, and we’ve been best friends ever since. There was another young child. This time a girl. I couldn’t remember her. A man and a woman sat arm in arm in one of the chairs. I recognised both of them, but couldn’t figure out where from.
The little girl was sitting in a bean-bag chair on her iPad, whilst the other three were all on cushioned metal chairs with no arm rests. The sun reflected off Josh’s phone and into my eyes, which cause me to let out a little welp. They all immediately lifted their heads to look at me. As soon as they saw I was awake, their faces lit up with joy. Except for one. The man still looked sad and miserable. He looked as thought he was hiding a deep secret, and the glint in his eyes instantly died when we made eye-contact.
As soon as I felt well enough, my family and friends were allowed to come talk to me, and play games with me. The hospital was boring without them around.
*Josh’s perspective*
When Charlotte was ready to go home, she was put in a wheel chair and helped into the car. On the way home was quiet. Nobody made any noise, not a single sneeze, nor cough. Silence.
As soon as we got home, I wheeled Charlotte to her room and sat her down on her bed, helpless.
“Can you put me back in my wheelchair please?” She whispered, but I didn’t reply. I was not going to let her boss me about. I was the alpha, and she does what I say.
