Welcome to my new book based on 'Total Drama Island!' Just to be clear, chapters will be long!
I am so excited for this new project! You’ve might’ve seen me on w*****d! If not, nice to meet you! Before you read, just know that I upped their ages a little bit in this story, as this story will be a bit more mature with mature content & language. Which is different from my usual writing style. With that being said,
~Happy Reading!
Ps, my knowledge on Canada is very little, so there's not going to be much on it!
…
Hi, my name is Malibu! And yes, I have those kind of parents. My name's Malibu while the dog's name is Tiffany. My name is Malibu Chanel to be exact, and in exactly one day, this California native will be sailing off to a luxurious island to be on a reality tv contest where I will be competing to win one hundred thousand dollars!
You're probably wondering how this came to be. It's a story that even I still can't believe.
…
"Mal."
"Mal, wake up."
"Malibu!"
I jolt awake hearing my name. I look at my clock.
'10:38,' Time to get up.
"Coming, mom!" I yell out to her.
I huff and sit there for a moment before forcing myself out of bed to head down stairs.
I'm allowed to sleep in on Saturdays. No school, and babysitting doesn't start til 7. My mom is a nurse at a hospital not far from our home here in Canada, so I started this babysitting job so I won't be so bored while she's gone. Of course I could always join my grandmother, but who wants to play bingo every single day?
"Good morning, mom! Hi, Tiffany!"
"Good morning, sweetie!" My mother replies with a smile. "I'm sorry to wake you, but I've got some news for you. Why don't you sit down?"
"What is it?" I ask worryingly. "Is grandma ok? Oh no, was she arrested again?"
"No, grandma's fine. It's your father. There was an accident at work."
"Ugh, did he fall off another roof?" I ask as I roll my eyes.
My parents broke up a while ago. 5 years to be exact. You'd think I'd be sad about it, but I'm fine with it, really. Actually, it's better this way, they were terrible together. I hated all the arguing and my dad leaving the house every time my mom kicked him out. I know a two parent household seems like the perfect life, but sometimes, it's better to admit when things aren't going as planned. When my mom and I moved to Canada 2 years ago, we decided that I would stay with my mom during the school year and some holidays while my father got me during summer breaks and the other holidays. My senior year of high school ends next month, and I'll be staying with my father for two months. After summer, I (sadly) start university.
"Yes, he's in the hospital," my mom answers sadly.
"So how many bones did he break this time?"
My father is a repair man, his speciality being roofs. Growing up, broken bones were a regular occurrence in our household. He'd break a bone repairing someone's rooftop, and sometimes I'd join him with one of my sports inuries, whether that be softball, soccer, surfing, or even ballet. Yep, I was quite the little athlete growing up.
"Around 1, 2... 24.." my mother trails off.
"Hold up, did you say 24?!" I exclaim. "It was just a roof, he always falls off of those things! How big was this house?!"
"Kardashian mansion," she tells me.
Oh crap!
"That's massive! How is he not dead?! Their house is the size of an airport! Ok, so I guess I'll just have to leave for Cali a month early to take care of him. I know graduation is in a few weeks but I really didn't want to walk anyways, so-"
"No, I've already spoken to your father. He doesn't want you to see him in his condition."
"So I have to wait an entire month to see him? He's just going to be in the hospital all by himself?" I ask sadly.
"...Honey, He's going to be in there for a long time. So he thinks it'll be best that you stay here for the summer."
"Stay here? In Canada?"
I look at my mother. I know she's sad for me, it just sucks, ya know? I was really looking forward to being with my father again. I love being with my mom in Canada, but I still love my dad and being in California. I had our whole vacay planned out, we were going to do everything together, and now it's all ruined. I haven't seen him in such a long time. I even missed our last holiday together because I had to get my tonsils removed. It's been too long since we've seen each other!
Curse you stupid celebrity roof!
"Ok," I sigh.
"Well, what if you and I go somewhere together, like a road trip? It'll be fun," I suggest.
If I have to stay in Canada, why not make the best of it? My mom is great, and she's fun! I'm sure we can find something to do. Maybe horseback riding? I use to love doing that when I was a kid. I stopped riding when we moved here, it'll be nice to pick it up again.
"You know I'm putting in extra shifts at the hospital, babe. The extra money will be needed for your tuition."
Ugh, here we go again. College... I'm rolling my eyes if you can't tell.
"Ma..." I whine.
"Now Malibu Chanel, I know where this conversation is going, and we are not discussing this again. Listen, mija, I'm very sorry about your father, but I have to go to work now. Why don't you go to the mall to take your mind off of things? Then we'll figure out your summer break later."
...
Why don't you go to the mall, Malibu?
I'm sorry Kim K broke your dad, Malibu.
Go to college, Malibu!
Summer hasn't even started yet and it already sucks! The worst part is, after a summer filled with nothing but cheesy game shows and bingo, because I'm pretty sure I'll just be spending the summer with my granny, it'll end with me going to a college that I don't even want to go to!
I don't want to go to college, can you tell?
I'm sorry, I just think for me, it's a waste of time. Maybe if I want to be like my mom and become a nurse or a doctor, but I don't. Look at my dad, he didn't go to college, and he's doing fine as a repair man. Who can say they worked and fell off of a huge influencers home? That's a big deal in our family!
My dream is fashion. Not just any kind of fashion... Shoes! I not only have a lot of pairs myself, but I want to be a shoe designer! My sketch books are filled with designs I created myself. Ever since I was four years old and given my first pair of church heels, I've been obsessed. My style? Everything. Give me a chunky heel, stilettos, or sporty tennies, it doesn't matter, I love them all! My mom doesn't see the vision, at least not now. She says college first, shoe company later. I know, lame.
Ok, so I went to the mall- Hey, can you blame me? What else is there to do? I could have either stayed home with my grandma and listen to her argue with her boyfriend all day, or, I could go to my favorite shoe store and grab some frozen yogurt while I'm out.
They're all so pretty, the shoes, but my designs are way better. I have tennis shoe designs, heels, slides, you name it, I got it! I can't wait to see them all up on display one day, and everyone will be flocking to get their hands on a pair of Malibu Originals! It's going to be perfect. Then my mom can quit her job, and maybe I'll buy granny her own Bingo place equipped with husky body guards so she can dump her loser boyfriend who only uses her for her social security.
"-Oh my goodness!" I let out.
I was on my phone walking through the mall when I bumped into someone. My phone slides across the floor and my frozen yogurt spills all over the both of us.
"Geeze!" I exclaim. "I didn't see you there, and now my yogurt is all over your really... expensive looking... sweater! I'm-"
I take a look at him, and not only does his sweater look expensive, he looks expensive! He is dressed head to toe in an array of pinks and purples, his sunglasses that are now splattered in my frozen yogurt are shaped like hearts and crested with jewels. His shoes... ugh, Gorgeous! He looks like a walking Bratz doll... A Bratz doll who is going to sue me for ruining his really expensive outfit.
"Shush," he says as he waves me off.
I look at him confusingly. "But, I-"
"Shhh," he says again.
So I do. I just sit there awkwardly with frozen yogurt in my hair. He looks at me for what seems like forever. I don't think he's blinked once. What's he up to? Oh, maybe he's reading my mind!
'Um, stranger, if you can hear me, I'm really sorry about your fancy clothes!'
"It's you!" he finally says. "I've found you!"
"Me? Do I know you?" I ask.
"No, but you're going to!" He says excitingly.
"Um, right... Anyways, I'm very sorry for running you over," I tell him.
I get up to walk away. What a weird encounter. This day in general has been strange. First my father ends up in the hospital, now I'm running people over and assaulting them with frozen desserts? Geesh.
"Wait!" The stranger says from behind. He quickly catches up to me.
"Listen, didn't mean to run you over and ruin your outfit, but you're really starting to freak me out," I tell him.
"I'm sorry, it's just, I've been looking for someone like you. Let me introduce myself. My name is Warner Bradley, talent manager and future reality tv star in the making. My goal is star making, and you are exactly the person I need to make that happen."
"Ok, but I don't want to be a tv star, or whatever kind of star so..."
"And that's fine, you don't have to be... At least, not for long. I have the perfect gig for you that'll be my kick start to the top!" He explains.
"Um... I've got to go," I tell him trying to walk away again.
My goal is to be a successful shoe designer, not some tv show snob, and I don't want to be used as some sort of puppet to get some stranger I don't even know to the 'top-' whatever that means. I've never imagined myself being a tv star. Can you imagine? Cameras following you all day, everything you say and do being critiqued by losers online, no thank you!
"I know this may seem odd, but there's something different about you, your aura is bright! I know you said no, but just think about it. And hey, summer is right around the corner, maybe this is your chance to try something new. For one summer, go all out and break out of your shell. Here, just give it some thought."
He gives me a smile and places a pink business card in my hand. He then walks away and I look at it for a moment.
I mean, he's right. Summer is right around the corner...
