1. Typical day in the office
Mora POV I sat at my desk contemplating the phone call I just ended. I was warned my life is in danger. Not the kinda call you get everyday. But my life being at risk is nothing new for me to deal with. I tap my nails along the desk in thought. The warning was from my mother. My mother, Celine, is a seer. She is Romani and is blessed with their gifts, some of which I inherited. She had an emotional premonition which gave her an impending sense of danger for me. I know that emotional premonitions are vague as they are not visual, just strong divination in smell, taste, touch, sound, or feelings. Even though one or more of those senses could be included in this type of foresight deciphering them we're still difficult. I am a detective and I worked at a Precinct of magic services support, Precinct 19 in Lavendale County to be exact. This precinct supplies various social services support, police, and detective investigations for supernatural related individuals and incidents. Since it has become common knowledge that supernatural beings exist special services precincts have been crucial. Human law enforcement agencies are not equipped to handle the intricacies of supernatural crimes and mental therapy. I deal with a lot of cranky supernaturals as I perform criminal investigations, track bounty's, and personal investigations. I'm an irritant to those who's cases land on my desk. I will find you and I will find the evidence if you left any. I piss those people off that are up to no good. So yes there is an element of danger inherent with my job. I opened my calendar on my computer. As I looked up the cases I have lined up for today my short red-tipped French manicure nails drummed on my desk. I am looking for something out of the ordinary. Something that would be of concern. I bit my bottom lip contemplating the words my mother had said earlier. She had said, "Oh Mora dear you're in danger. Oh gosh, not today but soon dear please be careful". My mother being a Seer for so long could at times be emotionally flat-delivering information. That is putting it nicely. I took a steadying breath to maintain my composure. It sounded as if my mom was telling me she had burnt up the cookies rather than telling me my life was in some form of danger. "Mom, do you have any more details? Anything at all about the cause of danger?" I could hear the nervous tension in my mom's voice when she responded, "Only that it will happen soon maybe in a week or two and it's got something to do with your job.". Well, that's just great I thought. "Mom, I deal with cheaters, people skipping bail, and an assorted box of criminals with my job. But I always take precautions and there is excellent security in the building". Her mother responded "Please take care, if anything else comes to me I'll call. Love you". "I will Mom love you too talk to you later." It's concerning that my mother didn't have any more details to give me at this time. It is not unheard of for my mom to have additional premonitions or visions that provided more clarity but it wasn't guaranteed. I have known my mother's foresight to pertain to mostly minor things like what color flowers the neighbor is planting next spring. Sometimes simply as my cousin is having twins in two years. Occasionally on my way out the door to work I will get a phone call saying "Mora that skirt is a bit too short" Looking at my calendar for today I had a bounty for a missing wolf, a sorceress selling illegal spells, and I have to deliver evidence to a dragon shifter about his cheating spouse. Out of all of those three the dragon shifter would probably be the most dangerous. I thought to myself 'It could be a little tricky but not out of the ordinary'. I slid off my heels and put them on the rack underneath my desk. I select a pair of steel-toe boots from the same rack. I lace up the boots not only did I like these boots but they were also enchanted. I have a few enchanted items that I use in my dealings with supernaturals. I secure a belt on which already has holstered an energy gun, handcuffs, and a dagger. I grab my messenger bag and slip the evidence file for the dragon shifter into it. Leaving my office I stop by my assistant Cheyenne's desk. Cheyenne is more of a partner than an assistant I couldn't run this place without him. "Chey, I'm going to meet up with the client. I should be back in a few hours. Add any new potential cases to my calendar for review. Of course call on my cell if you need me". "You got it boss," he said with a laugh. He continued "Do you think you would need some help with this one? No pun intended you know Dragon shifters do tend to be a bit hot-headed. He said with his hands waving as if warding off the terrible pun. We smile briefly. Chey has accompanied me on jobs occasionally. He is a solid muscled six foot four inches with silky black hair that's always in a bun and hazel blue eyes. I often think of them as cat eyes. I know he wants to get the required field experience so he can go out on his own one day. He has worked hard, met the mandated physical requirements and attended all field operations training classes. "No not today, but thanks I should only be out of a few hours. Just hold down the fort. "Sure thing boss" he said in an even tone. ********* He said he was going to melt the dude's d**k off. Before I showed the dragon shifter the evidence of his wife's cheating he was as cool as a cucumber. I mean he is wearing glasses and is an accountant for Pete's sake. He looks like he would be a manager at Geek Squad. When I showed him the evidence that all changed. Right here in the coffee shop with humans and supernaturals around I saw tendrils of smoke flow right out of his mouth. As I look at him he begins clutching the photos opening and closing his hands. I could feel the temperature around him slightly rising. There is a foggy distant look on his face then as clear as day he said "I'll melt his d**k off". Okay, enough of this I thought. "Let's go,"I said to him. He stood up abruptly and started for the door. I grab his wrist halting him. He looks at my hand puzzled, he asks "What are you doing?" Did he think I meant we were done with our meeting and I was just gonna let him go off and mutilate some guy? "Stopping you from doing something crazy," I said. A tight little crazy laugh escapes his throat and he says "Oh I'm not, I'm going to melt his d**k off and everything will be all right." Oh hell, I thought looking up to the heavens and rolling my neck and my shoulders around it's going to be one of those cases. I let him go. The poor guy thought I was letting him leave. I use one of the slow-mo beads on my wrist bracelet, direct it towards him causing him to move in half-time. I got a pair of supe cuffs off my belt and quickly get them secure on him. They would negate his powers and stop him from shifting, essentially making him a human for the time being. I got my phone out and called a unit to come to book him into a therapy cell. They would give him treatment for mate Bond psychosis. This is one of those instances where Supernatural service officers are better equipped to handle supe situations. I'm glad I was able to get him contained fairly quickly without incident. While waiting on the unit to come pick him up I pondered those words my mother said to me this morning. Just what kind of danger was ahead of me "I guess only time will tell" I muttered out loud. The dragon shifter was squirming around and doing his best to look pitiful. He stuttered out, "Hey, hey lady look I'm better just take the cuffs off okay. I'll go home and, and I can work this out with my mate". Did he think that was going to work "Nice try" I said. "Sit still before I stun you" he grimaced and stopped fidgeting. Satisfied that he would sit still, I contact a supernatural therapy officer to notify his mate and her lover. The therapy officer would let them know her husband was in full-blown Bond psychosis. They would now be aware they were caught and potentially in peril from violating the mate bond. If they chose support services could be provided to them. It's crazy but if he didn't actually kill or permanently damage the other male he would just get counseling and a slap on the wrist. Laws for Supernaturals were just different.
