Lee Do Hyun POV:
Do-hyun was on duty when the first call came.
People fighting.
Biting.
Not stopping.
At first, he thought it was just a violent case.
Then the radio filled with panic.
More calls. Every district. Every street.
Officers shouting for backup.
Someone screamed that the victims were still moving after being shot.
That was the moment he understood.
Something was wrong.
Very wrong.
His phone vibrated in his pocket.
An emergency alert appeared on the screen.
Do-hyun frowned.
“…What is going on?”
He called Hana immediately.
She answered, breathing fast. Screaming echoed behind her.
“Hana, listen to me. Lock the door and don’t open it for anyone.”
“I’m not home,” she said, voice shaking. “I’m in the basement store.”
His grip tightened.
“Go to the stairs. Run to the rooftop. Don’t look back. Just run.”
“Do-hyun… I’m scared.”
“I’m coming,” he said firmly.
The call ended.
He started running.
The streets were chaos. Cars blocked the road. People pushed and screamed.
He abandoned his car and ran on foot.
Soon the apartment building came into view.
The entrance door was open.
Blood covered the lobby floor.
A body lay near the security desk.
Suddenly something rushed at him.
Empty eyes. Open mouth.
He fired once.
The infected fell.
The gunshot echoed.
Then he heard crying.
Three residents hid near the mailbox corner — an old man, a young woman, and a teenage boy.
“Officer, please help us!” the woman begged.
He checked the stairwell. Footsteps were coming down.
Too many.
“Follow me. Quietly,” he said.
He led them through the hallway and opened an empty management room.
“Stay inside. Don’t open the door unless it’s police,” he instructed.
Their faces turned pale.
“You’re leaving?” the boy asked.
“I have to go upstairs,” Do-hyun answered.
The woman grabbed his sleeve.
“Please don’t leave us. Take us with you.”
The old man nodded desperately.
He looked at them for a moment.
Then at the stairwell.
Growls echoed closer.
“If you come with me, you may not survive,” he said quietly.
They did not let go.
The boy whispered,
“…We’ll die here too.”
Do-hyun tightened his grip on his gun.
He had no time to think.
Footsteps were coming.
He turned toward the stairs—
And made his choice..
