I had two days to decide. I thought I knew what I would do but now things changed. I was getting close to Maze and he told me wonderful stories about my life and his life. Maze was a great friend to me and was very loyal. I was even closer to Selene. I knew she needed me and I needed her. If there was a whole planet waiting for me to come back and desperate for me to help them stop a war that only started because I left then maybe the choice was easy. Maybe there was no real choice at all. What happened with Sam and Hunter was my fault. I need to stop this and if I leave they have no reason to come here and indanger my friends, my family, and my town. I didn't know how to just leave all of this behind but it looked like I had no other choice. I kept training and never told Selene I was having doubts. I made sure to learn as much as I could because no matter what I decided, in the end, I would need to know how to fight. I still haven't awakened my phoenix spirit and Selene thinks doing that might just bring back my memories so I am fearfull but also curious about it.
I went to train with Maze today in the afternoon. He was happy to see how much I have improved in such little time. I was extremely proud of myself too. I never thought I would get this good. I felt some relief in that aspect. We trained all afternoon and then by 7 pm I decided to go to the ship with Maze to see Selene. As soon as we entered the ship I saw Venus standing in front of Selene's door. I asked her if I could go in and see her. I looked at Selene looking at this weird crystal and she put it down when she saw me. She always looked so beautiful. She was wearing a short brown dress with puffy off the shoulder sleeves. Her long black hair was a bit wavy today. I took a deep breath and a step closer to her.
"Would you like to go out for some dinner, with me," I asked. She smiled and nodded. She put out her hand and I grabbed her hand and held it in mine. We walked to my car and I drove her to the only fancy restaurant in town. I opened her door and held her hand until we sat down. She seemed unsure about what to order so I helped her out.
"This is nice," she said.
"Yeah, it is," I replied. "I wanted to take you out for a while and today might be the only chance I have left." Her face went a little sad and she stayed quiet for a few minutes.
"I think you should stay here with your parents and your friends," Selene said.
"What?" I asked.
"I know your conflicted Axel but this war needs the phoenix king and you are just not ready," she said. I was upset and hurt by what she said but somehow I felt she was masking her true feelings.
"I can help you," I told her.
"I know but if you died because you weren't ready," she said.
"I'll just come back to life," I said.
"Not if you don't awaken your phoenix spirit," she told me. I was lost for words. I didn't know if I would ever be able to do that so I had no reply. "I want you to be safe."
"I want to be with you," I told her. We ate our dinner in silence and then left. I drove her to the ship and we never said a word to each other. Before I was going to walk back to my car I told her
"Don't leave without saying goodbye." She smiled and kissed me on my cheek. As soon as she entered the ship I got in my car and decided to go see Hunter.
Hunter was asleep when I went over to his house.
"Dude, wake up it's not that late," I said while punching him in the back.
"Ugh, come on I am so f*****g tired," Hunter said. I sat on his back and he lifted his body up to get me off of him. He finally got up and I told him about Selene and the rest of the guys leaving tomorrow.
"Tell me what to do," I said to him.
"Dude, I can't even handle that information," he said. "But if it was me I would go."
"Really?" I questioned.
"Yeah, why not? There is nothing here for me and I sure as hell have no ambition or career ahead of me," he said.
"That doesn't seem like a valid reason to go," I said. "You would just be running away."
"Maybe, but you have this whole purpose and other life you could be living," he said. "You're literally a king." I stayed quiet and just thought about everything.
"I'll see you later, man," and with that, I left. He went back to sleep and I just decided to head home and do the same.
It was around 2 am and I heard my phone going off. I reached over to look for it and then picked it up.
"Axel, HELP ME!" Sam shouted. I jumped up and ran out of my room. I suddenly tripped over a liquid on the floor. I looked at my hands and noticed I had blood on them. I followed the blood to my parent's room. My heart sank to the floor and I dropped to my knees. My parents were both dead. My mother had a large cut across her abdomen and a stab wound on her chest. My father was stabbed several times and looked like he was trying to protect my mother. I heard my phone buzz and saw a text from Hunter. He was telling me to hurry and head over to Sam's house. I quickly got up and ran to my car. I was so out of it. I didn't know how to react or what to do. I was reaching Sam's house when I noticed her house was on fire. It was lit up so much I noticed it blocks away. I drove faster and ran out of the car as soon as I was in front of her house. She was standing on the sidewalk staring with a horrified look on her face. Hunter was just arriving.
We both ran to her and tried to get a reaction out of her. She was nonresponsive.
"My mom, my dad," she said softly after twenty minutes of silence. I looked at her and she was crying so much.
"Sam," I whispered. I was so angry and confused. Who did this? I thought.
"We need to go," I said to them. I grabbed Sam's hand and told Hunter to follow us. I drove us to the vacant field. Once we arrived I noticed Selene, Maze, and Cloud fighting six men with dark black eyes. I swerved my car and parked it in the field. I ran out and walked straight to the men.
"WHO DID THIS!" I shouted while lifting my shirt covered in blood. I was growing angry and impatient. They tried to attack me but I let out my hands and let the ice flow through them. I turned them all into ice statues and then waved my hand to cause a gust of wind to knock them down and shatter. I was standing there upset and ready to kill some more. I could see from the corner of my eye that Selene was walking up to me but stopped as Sam made her way to me. She placed her hand on my shoulder and I relaxed a bit. I quickly turned around and looked at Selene.
"Why?" I said harshly. She stayed silent. "Why did they kill my parents?" She still said nothing.
"They know we are here and know we found you," Maze said.
"You did this, this is your fault," Sam snapped while looking at Selene. I didn't say anything but I knew my face was an agreement with Sam's statement. Cloud took a defensive stance in front of Selene.
"We have to go," Selene said softly I could barely hear it. I knew she was hurting too but I was too upset to do comfort her.
"I'm going and I am taking them with me," I told Selene.
