MAYA POV “Ow” I muttered as I felt pain coursing through me. I tried to open my eyes even when my head was throbbing. I looked up to see the man who stood in front of me, his eyes spawning down. Did they just knock me out? “What the hell do you want from me?” I asked, now staring holes into him, something felt off, his eyes had darkened as he watched me in silence. I felt chills from head to toe, he stared blankly at me. “Maya Hosten…” he answered, a smirk forming on his lips. I noticed his eyes move in the right direction, just then, I had now understood that I was now alone with a man in a huge dimly lit bar. “Never mind that, I’m leaving,” I replied, standing up abruptly. I started walking away from him when I felt an eerie energy coming from him. I was never one to cower but his aura gave me chills. I walked away towards the door but surprisingly saw him at the entrance, staring at me. “How did..you? What?” I asked, puzzled looking at where he stood before and where he was now, in front of me, his hands still in his pockets. “Where do you think you’re going?” He asked, his voice was low and deep as he leaned close to me. “Away from you” I said blankly, pulling back as I avoided his gaze. I turned to the side in an attempt to escape. I tried to walk away but his hand held mine tightly. “You’re coming with me,” he said, pulling me to the side. I felt another man holding me too. “Let me f*****g go” I said struggling to remove my hand from his tight grip. At the moment I felt my lungs struggle as I screamed for help. “Help me!!” I yelled. ‘I don’t think anyone’s gonna hear me’ I thought, trying to release myself as I noticed another man approaching me with what seemed like a blind fold, I twisted my wrist bringing the man behind me to my face. “I’m not gonna go down so easily” I said grabbing his wrist with force as I pushed him forward, attempting to run off. “Boss got a fiesty one this time,” one of the men muttered, a smirk forming on his lips as I looked back only to be held once more and everything turning pitch black. *** I woke up once more and I guess I was no longer at the bar. I struggled to free myself from the chair I was tied to. “Let me f*****g go!!!” I yelled, my voice gaining strength. I didn’t know where I was, or why he took me away. I could yell for help until my voice had become low and sullen. I had slept off after many hours of struggle, not knowing what to do or where I was, I felt helpless. The sun rays pierced directly at me as I opened my eyes.I felt the sharp pain in my arms, I looked at my wrists, they were uncuffed, free and had bruises, I looked at where I laid, the cold ground felt somewhat shivering, the door in front of me felt heavily guarded and strong. “Who’s there? Let me out of this place!” I yelled almost immediately wanting to leave. Suddenly I heard footsteps approaching the door, I looked desperately and wanted to scream as loudly as my voice could muster but I found myself shrieking, I suddenly recalled what happened last night. I felt shiver down my spine as I breathed heavily. “It seems you’re awake” a voice emerged from the other side of the door. “Open up you bastard!” I said angrily mustering the courage to speak. I crawled to the door wanting to make a fuss till they let me leave. The door opened. I saw the huge figure in front of me, it was him, the man behind my chills, his eyes watching me as I stopped to look at him. “If you don’t quit your whining, I’ll make you whine underneath me,” he said crouching down so his face could meet mine. “I’ll stop when you f*****g let me outta here” I said calmly watching his eyes. “You’re a really difficult one,” he said, pulling me by my hair. “Pulling on my hair won’t stop s**t” I said gnashing my teeth. If he found me annoying, he may let me go, so I thought. “Well, Maya,” he said with a deep voice, letting go of me and standing upright. “Your father has a deal with me,” he said, putting his hands into his pockets. “He owes me a lot and if you don’t comply with his terms of payment, I’ll rip him apart right in front of you,” he said with a low tone. I looked at him wide eyed, how can someone say something that cruel so calmly and expressionlessly? I swallowed hard. “You can’t do that, plus there’s no way my father would let that happen,” I said, pulling myself together. “Well then Maya, I’ll let you decide” he said with a pause as he looked down at me. “To pay off your fathers debt you either have to work for me or better still watch him die right in front of you, I’ll just consider his debt as a loss,” he said, watching my eyes gnaw at him with anger. “What do you mean?!” I yelled. “Your father had this contract signed” he said pulling out a piece of paper, it seemed like a rather lengthy document. “Now it’s your choice to make, you let him die or you sign the contract as well” he said in a cool voice, his eyes still expressionless. “There’s no way my father would sell me” I snapped. “If he’s willing to save his ass, yeah, he would” this man answered, dropping the document on the hard floor. “We don’t have all day, Maya. Besides today's working day” he said with a smirk, my eyes widened with fear and shock “How could Papa do this to me?” I muttered, my heart had begun to race. ‘Is this how much he thinks of me?’ I thought to myself looking at the contract in front of me. There was no mistake, it was his signature. My father had sold me off to pay up his debt. I looked at this piece of paper, my deciding fate. “Pen” I said sharply, my eyes narrowing down to the paper laid on the ground, he dropped the pen without a sign of care. “You start work today, get it signed and someone will come fetch you” he said walking out of the room, leaving me with my thoughts. ‘Am I really going to sign this?’ I thought to myself, my voice had become throaty and hoarse so I couldn’t speak as I would normally do.
