Chapter 23

“My great, great, great grandparents have an interesting story." “I’m ready.”  “My great, great, great grandfather bought my great, great, great grandmother for 5 stallions.”  “What?”  “My great, great, great grandmother was from a Native American tribe. Her father was the chief. The story goes that she met my great, great, great grandfather and fell in love. She was beautiful and many men came to ask her for her hand in marriage.”  “But that shouldn’t matter if she loved your great, great, great grandfather.”  “You would think, but it did matter. At the time, the men coming to ask for her hand were the same ones taking the land around the tribe. They all had something to offer, but my great, great, great grandfather offered the most. It wasn’t just horses.”  “What else did he give them?”  “That part we aren’t sure about, but, I have a few pictures of them with horses and the exchange. My great, great, great grandfather was wealthy and his family was not happy about the marriage. As soon as the deal was made, they were married and they moved away. From our understanding, they never seen their families again. They moved away and started a family of their own.”  “Interesting.”  “Oh, there is more. They had 9 children and they passed down stories about how much their parents were in love. When they died they were said to have been holding hands.”  “Said to have been?”  “ They were in a house fire. They were so badly burnt nobody in the family saw them.”  “How did they know it was them?”  “It was their house and the bodies were found in bed.”  I was at a loss for words. It did sound like a true love story that ended tragically. Why would they move away from both families? The entire story made me think this could be how I figured out what supernatural being she could be. “I have a copy of the wedding pictures. I will dig them out after lunch.” Eve said as she stood to get more coffee. I left before lunch to go home and change before coming back. I also sent one of my warriors back to our realm to try and figure out what they could about Native American tribes and if any of them had supernaturals.  When I returned, I found Brayden shoveling food in his mouth.  “Mom ran to the store but she will be back soon.” He managed to get out between bites.  “How are you feeling?”  “Normal.” He said as he shrugged his shoulders. “I’ve been meaning to talk to you. How do you feel about me and your mother?”  “I’m OK with it. You make her happy. I’ve never seen her smile this much.”  “I love your mother. I know it might seem soon, but I plan to marry her one day and I know I could never replace your father, but I hope that you can come to me if you need anything.”  “Thanks Dustin. Honestly, I feel like we are already family. It’s weird. I feel like I shouldn’t like you so easily and I swear Adalyn is my little sister.”  “I feel the same way. Like our family was always meant to be.”  “Yeah.” He said, smiling. “Just be gentle with my Mom. She has been through a lot. She has always been so strong but it would be nice if she had somebody to lean on.”  “I promise you I will do everything I can to take care of her.” I said and I meant it.  We chatted for a few more minutes before Eve returned. We ate lunch and, as promised, right after, Eve brought out a photo album.  I watched with interest as she flipped through the photos.  “Here it is. This is the one from the exchange.” She slid the album towards me.  In the photo it didn’t take me long to figure out who her relatives were. The moment I saw her great, great, great grandfather, I knew what he was and nothing was making sense. However, her great, great, great grandmother looked almost human. I knew where Eve got her beauty.  Hopefully, Milo was able to find something out about the Native American tribes and what supernaturals they could be.  She continued to show me the picture from the wedding itself and I knew without a doubt her grandmother was a supernatural. I just didn’t know what kind.  “Mom, can you make me copies of these? I want to use them in my report,” Brayden asked.  “I can get them copied for you. I need to go out after lunch,” I offered.  After lunch, I excused myself to get the copies and to call one of my warriors. I snapped a couple of photos of her relatives and sent them to my warrior right before I called. “I need you to go to Milo. Tell him her great, great, great grandfather was an Angel. Make sure to get him those photos.”  I at least knew my flame was half angel but not a Nephilim, because I don’t think her great, great, great grandmother wasn’t human. Typically, angels stay with their own kind. From Eve’s story, they took off after the wedding. But why? If they are both supernaturals, why is it that Eve doesn’t seem to know she is a supernatural?  Angels are also very protective of their children. From the photo, her grandfather looks extremely young. From his features and height, he was a full Angel.  I made a copy of her photos for Brayden and headed back to Eve. We had dinner and all I could think about was trying to figure out this puzzle.  “Are you OK?” Eve asked me after dinner.  “Sorry, I have a lot on my mind.”  “Maybe I can help.” She took my hand and pulled me toward her room.  “Where are your kids?” I asked as she closed the door behind her.  “Going to that movie with Kora.”  Her lips connected with mine and I knew what had to happen.
