I was thrown off when he called me Queen. Was that somebody important to Dustin and he was confusing me with her? Maybe it was what Adalyn's mother went by and they were confused.
“Thank you and you can call me Eve.” I said, handing him the bag as we made our way inside. I didn't want to embarrass him by correcting him for the mistake.
It didn’t take long for us to reach our floor. Gavin walked me to one of the rooms.
“This is Dustin’s room. I will drop Kennedy off later tonight.”
“You two have a good night.”
I turned and knocked on the door. A frustrated Dustin opened the door and I could hear a fussy baby in the background.
He pulled me into him and shut the door behind me. He pressed his lips to mine and when he finally pulled away he seemed to be calm.
“Hi.” He said, putting his head to mine.
“Hi.”
A knock on the door forced us apart. As Dustin pulled it open, we saw Calvin holding the bread I had brought. Dustin took the bag and put it on the table.
“What is this?”
“I bought some fresh baked bread,” I said as I made my way to the pack-n-play.
The moment that Adalyn saw me she squealed and put her arms up. Picking her up, I held her to me.
“Why are you giving daddy such a hard time, princess?”
“Because she wanted to see you,” Dustin said, putting his arms around my waist as he looked down at his little girl. Adalyn looked at him and giggled.
“Was she the only one that wanted to see me?”
He turned me around and looked right in my eyes.
“No, I wanted to see you more, she is just better at expressing herself.”
My face turned red and I found myself burying my face in his chest.
“So what can we order for dinner that will go with this deliciously smelling bread,” Dusting asked, changing the subject.
“Can’t we just cook something?”
I watched as Dustin blushed.
“To be honest, I can’t really cook. I mean I can fry some bacon and eggs but.”
“You have people that do that for you,” I said with a smile.
“Yeah.”
“ OK, I can cook. Do you have any food here?” I said, walking to the refrigerator and opening it.
“No, and you don't have to cook. You are my guest.”
"I don't mind and it's better for all of us." I said, looking down at Adalyn and getting a giggle in return.
"I can send somebody to get whatever you want."
“I’ll make a list. Will your body guard be joining us?”
“My body guard?”
“Calvin.”
“Yeah sorry I have 8 of them with us. I don’t think they will all fit in here.”
“You have 8 body guards?” I asked in disbelief.
“That way they can work different shifts and days.”
All I could do was nod as I took the note and pen next to the phone and began making a list. Ensuring to make enough food for 13 people. Based on Calvin’s size, I decided to double what I would normally make for 13.
I looked around the small kitchen to make sure everything I needed was there. With the amount of food I was going to make, I needed another large pot. Once my list was complete, I handed it to Dustin. He picked up his phone and asked Calvin and Luis, another body guard, to come to his room as he explained they would be going shopping.”
“Hi Calvin. Nice to meet you Luis.” I said, handing Calvin the list. Seeing Luis made me wonder if I should make even more food. "Does everything on my list make sense?"
“Yes, Eve it does.” Calvin said.
“Good. I’m making dinner for everybody tonight. We won’t be able to eat together, but I can still feed you.”
“Excellent.” Calvin said, surprising me with his excitement.
“Make sure to call if you get confused.” Dustin encouraged, handing him a black card.
“Yes sir.” They both replied in unison, leaving the room.
We spent the next hour feeding and playing with Adalyn. Watching her lay in my arms and drink her bottle bought me more joy than I thought was possible.
Calvin and Luis returned and unpacked all of the groceries.
“Don’t go anywhere, boys. I need some help chopping veggies.” My plan was to make a very hearty chicken stew.
Dustin took Adalyn from me and she seemed content as long as her eyes were on me. With the help of both Calvin and Luis, I had both pots of soup simmering. I looked over at the disposable bowls they purchased and couldn’t help but giggle. They had to be the biggest soup bowls I had ever seen.
“I was going to make a large salad but I figured since you would have to take it back to your rooms to eat, it would be easier to make individual salads.” They both nodded and helped me prep the salads.
Taking Adalyn back from Dustin, I told him to get him and me some food as I sent Kennedy a message to bring the guys and get some food.
“Go on Calvin and Luis. Get your food.” They wasted no time thanking me as they got some soup, salad, and fresh bread.
“I will let the others know to come and get food.” Luis said as they left the room holding the door for Kennedy, Gavin, and Evan.
