Ever since the attempt to poison Baekhyun and their baby, Chanyeol had never left Baekhyun’s side. Baekhyun was still frightened and stayed close to Chanyeol whenever possible, but if for some rare reason Chanyeol had to leave Baekhyun, for example, now, Baekhyun would stay close to Sehun, Kai, Kyungsoo and Luhan.

Ever since the poisoning attempt, Baekhyun and Kyungsoo had had a lot more of the security’s attention. Kyungsoo was due soon and if the birth was delayed for any reason, it could cost him his life as well as his baby’s and his mate’s, because they were mated forever.

Baekhyun, though, was not that far along. He was on his 22nd week and his bump was steadily growing. He could feel his baby kicking several times a day, but usually, it was so light that even he had trouble feeling it.

Ever since the baby first kicked, Chanyeol would always rub Baekhyun’s belly before they went to bed or took a shower and the baby, being a complete daddy’s girl or boy, always kicked very hard afterwards. Baekhyun would always scrunch his face in pain and Chanyeol would laugh and rub his belly once more, telling their child to ‘Calm down and stop hurting mommy’ and Baekhyun would blush, hearing the word ‘mommy’.

“Luuuu.” Baekhyun whines, rubbing his belly. The said male looks over at the smaller and hums, glancing back at the TV before looking at Baekhyun again.

“Yes, Baek?”

“Can you call Channie? I want him. I feel dizzy.” Baekhyun whines and Luhan sighs, looking at Sehun who nods, standing up and walking out.

Baekhyun was always uneasy without Chanyeol around and Sehun noticed that Chanyeol was the same. The two were restless without each other and Chanyeol would go on a rampage and kill anyone if they made Baekhyun cry, even the elders, because to him and any other vampire, a mate was something extremely special.

Sehun reaches the study and knocks, receiving a soft ‘come in’ before he walked in.

Chanyeol was seated on his chair with a paper in his hands. In front of him was a man, who looked to be in his early 40’s. The man was wearing a clean suit, with his greying hair pulled back. Chanyeol raises his eyebrows and nods at Sehun who sighs.

“I’m sorry for disturbing you two, but it’s very important,” Sehun says, bowing apologetically to the man and looks back at his brother.

“Baekhyun needs you hyung. He has been feeling uncomfortable and keeps zoning out. He also refuses to eat anything unless you are there and now he says he feels dizzy. I think it’s best for you to leave this meeting for another day and tend to him before he gets worse.”

The man frowns.

“Who is this ‘Bacon’ you are talking about?! He cannot be more important than my daughter’s engagement to Prince Chanyeol!”

Chanyeol looks at the man with anger in his eyes.

“He is my mate and fiancé who is bearing my pups. And this alliance you were talking about? You were going to marry me, a taken man, to some person I don’t know! This crap is dismissed and I will never see you again!” Chanyeol growls before walking out the door and leaving the man alone.

The man sighs.

He was too late. The prince was already engaged and bound to marry whoever this ‘Bacon’ was. He had broken his promise to his daughter, but that could not be helped as Chanyeol was a man of his own wishes who could fall in love and mate whoever he wanted.

With those thoughts in his head, the man stands up and leaves the palace.

Chanyeol hugs Baekhyun closer to him as they lay in bed together.

Baekhyun had been taken to their room immediately and the estate doctor had come to check on him. He had assured Chanyeol that the dizziness was a normal sign of stress and fatigue and he had told Chanyeol to stay by Baekhyun until he could start eating and sleeping properly.

Now that Chanyeol looked properly at his mate, he could see slight rings around his eyes and his heart shattered, knowing that he had been neglecting his mate.

So he promised himself one thing.

He would leave the office work to Sehun and Kai, just as they had told him to, and stay by his mate until their little one was at least one year old or until they decided to finally tie the knot and settle down.

Yes. That was his promise to himself and Baekhyun and he was willing to keep it no matter the cost.
