Chapter 1 : The girl in the woods
Evara
Every step was agony. My feet were swollen, raw, and slick with blood, each thorn and root digging into me like the forest itself wanted me gone. My clothes were torn, my hair singed and clinging to my caramel skin, and I could taste smoke and iron on my tongue.
I blinked, trying to make sense of the shadows around me. Everything smelled of death;the fallen leaves, the damp earth, the air itself. And somewhere inside me, a pulse thrummed, not mine alone, something deeper, something older.
Then I heard them. Movement. Three figures, cautious, their eyes sharp, scanning. Wolves. Not like any I had ever seen, but the way they stepped forward made me hesitate. Fear coiled in my stomach, but something else..curiosity maybe, made me freeze.
The biggest one knelt down, He was just bigger than me but quite small compared to my daddy, maybe an Omega;his amber gaze steady and calm. “Are you hurt, little one?” His voice was soft, calm and it carried a warmth I needed.
I tried to speak, but my throat was raw. My vision flickered with… images, whispers, emotions that weren’t mine. The forest, the wolves, even the air around me all of it seemed to hum with something I couldn’t name. And the wolves, they didn’t just see me. They were drawn to me.
The even smaller wolf, a female, reached toward me, and warmth spread through my freezing limbs. Another, younger one maybe her daughter?was watching me with wide, careful eyes. There was kindness there. And even though I was terrified, a part of me wanted to reach out.
I shivered, pressing my hands to my chest. Everything hurt. Everything screamed. And yet, in their presence, a strange calm tried to settle over me. I noticed the way the father’s gaze never wavered, how the mother’s hand was steady and reassuring, how the girl’s eyes lingered, alert and gentle.
I wanted to trust them. I wanted to believe I wasn’t alone.
But something whispered in the back of my mind;a shadow, a presence waiting, watching. It had known I would be here, and it had been waiting far longer than I could imagine.
The wolves guided me through the forest, their movements careful, protective. I limped behind them, half-blind with pain, feeling every heartbeat echo through me like a warning. And though I didn’t know it yet, the child they had found that day,the one with hazel-gold eyes and fiery curls was destined for something far beyond the quiet woods, something that would shake worlds and awaken powers that had slept for generations.
For now, though, I just wanted to close my eyes and stop hurting.
