Mia and the billionaire

Mary barges into Mia's room. She notices she is still asleep. She looks at her with an eye one would call "evil". If looks could kill, Mia would have been dead at that spot just by Mary looking at her. She moves closer to Mia and sprinkles water on her face. "Get up fool! How can you possibly be sleeping at this time? Your mates are out there becoming useful to their families and the society as a whole, and here you are, sleeping like a lifeless dog". Mary said to her while folding her hands as though she was ready for a fight. Mia immediately jumps up from her bed. She tries to stretch her arms a little when she receives a knock on her head. "Good… Good morning mum". Mia greets her with a sad look on her face. " Oh shut up you filthy thing! How many times have I warned you not to call me your mum? You and I know that you're not worthy to be called my daughter. Look! The reason why I'm here is because your dad seeks your presence immediately, so get up and move now! " Mary said to her while pointing directly at the door. Mia didn't say a word. This is what she has been dealing with since the day her dad brought In Mary as his wife. She is already used to the ill maltreatment from her stepmom. She quickly rushes to the living room. She was a little bit anxious and scared when she found her dad sitting on the couch with both his hands wrapped around his armpit. So many thoughts kept on ringing in her head. "Could I have done something wrong this time around unknowingly?" She asked herself. She moves closer to her dad. "Good morning dad. Mum says you seek my presence. Is everything alright?" She asked her dad with a calm voice. "Have a seat Mia, I and your stepmom have something important to say to you" He said to her while taking his glasses off. " Firstly, I want to congratulate you on your admission into the university. Not just a mere university, but the best so far in the history of Babaria. I have always known you to be an intelligent girl child. And that's one of the good attributes you inherited from your late mum. I'm so sorry to say this… but unfortunately, you won't be furthering your education" Andrew said to her without thinking of how she will feel about his decision. "Father!" She screamed in shock while she jumped up from her seat. Her heart was filled with so much bitterness. She stood in front of her dad with tears streaming down her cheeks after hearing the heartbreaking words coming from her father's mouth. "How could you do this to me father? You know how important this admission is to me. I burnt candles late at night trying to read just to make good grades. And finally, when the heavens smiled at me, you suddenly want to cut my dreams off just like that? What have I done to deserve this? What sins have I committed to be treated this way? She kept on asking a series of questions but her father couldn't reply any. Infact, he couldn't even look into her eyes. He knew the actions he took were what one would call "wicked". "Oh shut that hole you call a mouth! You should be grateful you have a roof under your head and here you are, talking about furthering your education. I firmly support the decision your dad made. After all, no matter the certificate you acquire, a woman's place will always end up in the kitchen. Take a good look at me" Mary stands up and spins slowly while raising her shoulders up. "I went to the best high school there is in Babaria, I still ended up being a housewife" "You and I can never be the same" Mia said to Mary while tears rolled down her eyes. "How dare you!" Mary quickly stood up from the couch and gave Mia a hot slap. Mia suddenly became deaf for a few seconds. The sound of the slap was so loud that it could wake up the dead from the grave. "That's enough Mary… Don't you think you're being too hard on the little girl… Don't ever do that in my presence again else, you'll face the consequences" He turns to Mia's direction "you may leave us now " He said to her in a calm voice. She immediately runs to her room while placing her hand on her left cheek. She locks the door and falls on the ground in tears. She never imagined that such a day would come. She felt like the world was against her. She wished her mum was still alive because definitely, she wouldn't have allowed such a thing to happen to her only child. "Oh mum! Why did you leave me all alone in this world? You would've as well taken me along with you. Ever since you died, my life has been a living nightmare in the hands of dad and my stepmom. Dad literally does whatever she says as though he was bewitched by her. Please mum, watch over me". She stared at her mum's picture until she fell asleep.
