Chase
I can’t really explain it, I feel bad enough that I’m not standing by her, but her begging me to stay safe is killing me. How is she even able to do that? – take control of my mind like that.
My thoughts keep racing around her sounds, her scent, her taste, how peaceful it feels just being around her.
I don’t think I’m winning this year’s hunt, not because of Leo - I am not afraid of him, but because of Kendra. I have never been this distracted in my life. I am worried for her safety.
My sidekicks got their lustful eyes on her. Leo got his stupid eyes on her too and that can be very dangerous for someone like her.
The way she looks at Leo, I want her to look at me like that – I couldn’t help but feel it, whatever connection she has with him is ripping my connection with her apart.
I want her to like me more. I actually want her to look at me in a way that’s special.
I fall behind to keep an eye on her and my little sister while others wild off, except Trystan. Who said she can join us? I grunt in frustration, occasionally turning my head to look at her. It's amusing the way she's trying to keep up in her human form.
We have the advantages of legs, but she seems to be doing just fine on two.
Every time I look at her, she throws me a harmless smile. I feel the surge of excitement in her as she runs beside Anna.
It’s dark, so dark. How is she able to watch her steps? She doesn’t have night vision like the rest of us. Aside reading my thoughts, what else can she do? Does she have a night vision too? How much of herself is she hiding from the pack?
I close my eyes. We’re going to have to talk about that later.
I have so many unanswered questions, which is gradually turning her into a mystery and it’s heightening my curiosity.
“My Lord, We have to hunt else you’ll lose.” Trystan groans beside me. “What’s wrong?” he looks at me, his face full of worry. “Why do you keep glancing over your shoulder?”
“Why don’t you go ahead.” I order, trying my best to not sound too harsh “I’ll catch up”
He looks back and let out a loud grunt on seeing Kendra. “The frat’s are taking her in for the new pledges.” He reminds me. “I can’t wait to have a taste of all that goodness hidden in that hideous tribal costume.”
I feel anger surge through my veins. I halt and he halts too. I narrow my gaze at him, my beast growling back to life. “you don’t know when to keep quiet, do you, you fvcking psycho?”
“Why? What has gotten into you?” he queries challengingly. “You’re overreacting”.
He is right. I am overreacting because I know what frats do with their preys and I can’t have them abuse Kendra.
When the frat marks a female, she is doomed for ruination. I have hosted such rituals many times. The prey get splayed naked on a table, and then get spanked and brutally fvcked by the heads while the pledges watches with bated breath.
Some females with crazy fantasy comes to the initiation willingly while those who defies their picks are forced.
I have witnessed such cruelty, I am a part of it. No werewolf born of a mother should be treated that way.
I’m not going to let any punk shove his ugly girth inside my little girl’s hole.
“I think I smell something.” Kendra’s voice booms through the thick darkness of the night.
Sense of smell too? My mind immediately blanks at the smell of a deer. She really did smell it out before the rest of us did. My ears peck up and I turn towards the direction of her voice.
“Don’t tell me you actually believe she can smell something?”
“Why don’t we find out.”
“When does an Alpha allow himself to be swayed by a wolfless female?”
My nostrils flare in anger. Ryder is about to loose control, but then my iron will reassert itself. “ I am Alpha, Trystan and that means you bend your will to me.” I growl.
He locks eyes with me. His eyes golden with defiance. He is becoming rebellious by each passing day, constantly questioning my decisions and authorities.
After a long moment, Trystan looks away, lifting his chin to reveal the strong pulse of blood in his throat. “Sorry...my Lord.” He growls low in his throat and storms off.
Shifting back to human form, I walk through the trees, until... I find them.
“I don’t have a weapon.” She says softly to Anna who is also now in her human form. “Why don’t you hunt it down.”
“We can make a spear.” Anna proposes. “ you deserve the kill. You found it, remember?”
She definitely picked up the scent of the deer even before Anna did.
“I got it.” They jolts on my voice and turn to my direction. “I will make you a spear. Anna is right, you deserve the win.”
“I’m sorry. I can’t do it. I don’t want to hurt an animal. I'm scared."
“Killing is part of packs life. You should get use to it... I understand it’s your first hunt, so I’ll do it for you.” I offer.
She smirks as she walk past me and I realize something – she isn’t scared of killing the deer, she wants me to have it.
Damn it, alright, so Kendra can actually hunt.
I don’t mind admitting that I thought I was going to have to watch her the whole hunting period. I thought she'd be a burden the way most of the females in kingdom are, and she’d need me to protect her. I didn’t expect her to be able to take care of herself.
Maybe any woman could be a good hunter if she had training. Or, you know, maybe Kendra is just special. She’s been shocking me to the core since the hunt began.
Following the trail, Anna points me to the nearby bush. She puts her hand between my shoulder blades, encouraging me forward, i take a steady breath and shift back to my wolf form.
Darting forward with speed, I clamp my jaws into the deer's throat. Rivulets of blood run down between my teeth as the buck struggles, then goes limp.
Anna and the others join their voices to mine as I howl in triumph. Howling seemingly coming from every part of the forest where others are spread out.
First to howl is not the winner, but who returns to the bonfire where the elders are waiting with the biggest catch.
I feel terror slicing through Kendra as she watch the limp deer in my mouth and the blood spilling down through my fangs. Violence is part of our life, it’s better she start getting use to it.
Shifting back to human form, “We better get this thing back,” I say, nudging the corpse with my toe.”
