I could just make him out in the darkness, the covers pulled up to his waist as he lay on his side. I couldn’t help pausing in the doorway, my eyes zooming around the room as I tried talking myself out of this. But just the idea of going back out in the living room was terrifying.  “The offer was the bed, not the doorway,” he muttered without shifting from his position.
