Supporting the workmen and scientists, the army made a point of being present. They were not only there to defend the people working, but they also helped the voluntary task-force in governing the immense logistical side of things and the mass of workers all involved in the project. Once the wall was down and the entrance to the crater opened up, a special task force was the first to be sent in, in an attempt to find the spiders’ nesting sites. Once identified, the army would be called upon to go in and attack the creatures with flame throwers. A secondary unit of armed guards was also on standby, just in case any other nasty surprises also lurked in there.
