ARIA'S POV I closed my eyes as I tried to breathe properly. I felt sweat beads forming on my forehead. I opened my eyes and looked up, the elders and townspeople surrounded me. They gave me nasty looks while they murmured and sneered. “Traitor!” “I knew she was no good!” Their words felt bitter and forced. I couldn't blame them, they were mindless zombies following their leader’s words after all. “Aria!” Speak of the devil My eyes traveled to where I had heard him scream my name. There he was, standing tall clothed in his regal black robe and wielding his blade. My executioner and mate, Alpha Darius Blackthorn, the leader of the Blackthorn pack and king of our great kingdom. He walked closer to where I was chained down. Every step he took made me closer and closer to my doom. He looked upon me with disdain with the same eyes that used to be full of love for me. It was all a lie “Why?”. I said, my voice cracking. I was trying to hold back my tears but the pain from the betrayal was immense. He smirked and leaned in to whisper into my ear. “You're no longer of use to me”. He said coldly. I didn't want to believe it. I still felt like this was all a dream. It had to be He turned to the crowd to address them. “My people, you may be wondering why I have called you all today. Some of you are already aware, some may think it's just rumors”. He paused and they began murmuring. “Silence”. He said and they immediately went silent. He glanced at me and turned to the crowd. “Kneeling before you chained up and restrained is Aria Moonhart, whom you all know as my Luna. She has committed a very grave offense. Treason!”. The crowd gasped and tears streamed down from my eyes. “So the rumors were true” “Traitor! We should burn her to the ground” “Settle down.” He said and turned to me. “I gave you my all. I loved you, treated you like a queen but all for what? For you to go behind my back and connive with the enemy? You have broken my heart and my trust”. He said feigning sadness. This bastard. I couldn't take more of his madness “You are not fit to be Luna. You are hereby rejected, Aria Moonhart," he said, his voice echoing through the forest. “You are no longer Luna of this pack. You are no longer my mate.” My heart cracked as he uttered those words. He had just rejected me. I felt like I was being stabbed continuously in the chest. My wolf howled and whimpered in pain, it was suffering. My bones burned, my blood screamed. I had never felt this much pain before. It tore through me like fire, the pain was blinding. I looked up at him with tears but he had no remorse in his eyes. He had become ruthless and cruel. Or maybe he was like that from the very beginning I heard the sound of thunder and lightning and then came the rain, pouring down on me like the heavens were sharing in my sorrows. “How could you do this to me you bastard”. I cried out in pain and he hit me causing me to bleed from my nose. “Don't you dare speak to me in that manner. You should be begging for forgiveness, begging to be allowed to live!”. He said and spat on my face. “Kill her!” “Burn her!” The crowd jeered, urging him to finish me off. He tightened his grip on his blade and stared at me. I knew what would happen next but I wasn't ready for it. “Help me oh mighty moon goddess”. I said a silent prayer, hoping that she or anyone else would come to my aid. I looked up at him hoping he'd change his mind or hoping I'd wake up from this dream. “Please Darius, don't do this to me”. I said breathlessly. He said nothing and raised his blade. “I'll make it painless my love”. He said with a smirk and with one strike he slashed my neck open. All I could see was blood and all I could feel was pain. No… no.. this can't happen. And then everywhere went blank. What's happening? Am I dead? I don't feel anything…. “Aria…”. I heard a soft voice call out to me and felt a light touch on my cheek . “Aria, wake up”. The voice called out again. I struggled to open my eyes and when I did I shut it back because of the bright light. Argh, where am I? My eyes adjusted to the light and my vision began to clear up. I looked around. I could only see clouds and the sky, I was even sitting on a cloud. Was this heaven? “Did you enjoy your slumber?”. I heard the voice again and looked up to see a beautiful woman in bright regal attire. She looked like royalty. “Slumber?”. She giggled and waved it off. “Nevermind. How do you feel?” “I feel… free”. I felt at peace. I couldn't feel anymore pain or torture. Maybe I was in heaven. She smiled and caressed my hair. “I'm the Moon goddess my child” The Moon goddess? No wonder she radiated with such elegance and purity. I stared at her in awe and then smiled. She took my hands and we vanished and reappeared in an open field. I saw horses and cattle grazing in the grass. There were beautiful flowers with varieties of vibrant colours and butterflies flying around. The cool breeze touched my face lightly and I felt even more at peace. “You suffered a lot when you were alive, you thought it was over when you were mated to him, but things only got worse. I'm sorry about that and even more sorry that you have to go back.”. Her words sent a chill down my spine. Go back? “W-why should I go back? I prefer to stay here”. I said with a pleading face. “You are meant for greater things Aria. And those things can only be accomplished if you go back. I'm giving you a second chance”. She said sternly. Greater things? I sighed. What greater things could I be meant for? I wasn't even that strong. “You have amazing powers that you are yet to discover my child.”. She said again I pondered on it. A second chance. Would I get back at Darius for what he did? Probably. “So what do you say young one?”. She asked. “I accept, I'll go back.”. She smiled. “Good choice.”. She stretched out her hands and gestured for me to bring mine. When I held her hands her eyes turned pure white and I felt my body vibrate. Everywhere went dark. Mmm. What happened? I opened my eyes and scanned my surroundings. I…I was in my room. The scenery, it felt too familiar, then it clicked. I was back….and it was my 18th birthday. The day I got mated to Darius….
