Chapter 1 Scamming a Female Driver
In South Lake City, in the morning, Jack Cooper stood by the roadside, his expression complex as he watched the busy traffic.
"Go pay for the surgery, or I guarantee your mother won't survive today."
"You still have the face to talk about borrowing money? You haven't even paid back what you borrowed from us last time..."
"No money! What do I care if your mother lives or dies?"
Jack's mother was in the hospital, in urgent need of 50,000 dollar for surgery. Despite all his efforts, he couldn't raise a single cent, leaving him extremely anxious.
"It seems I have no choice but to resort to scamming for my mother's surgery fee. It's against my conscience, but I have no other option. I'll repay the money as soon as I get it."
Determined to scam, he looked at the road again, eyeing a high-end vehicle for his scheme. Then, he spotted a red Maserati driving at a moderate speed.
"That's the one!"
Jack swiftly stepped forward and dashed in front of the Maserati.
He was familiar with the process of scamming, having seen several cases online. He expected the driver to slam on the brakes in surprise, allowing him to pretend to be hit and demand money.
However, the reaction of the Maserati was unexpected.
The driver, a very beautiful girl, screamed in shock instead of hitting the brakes. She took her hands off the steering wheel and covered her eyes.
"What the heck? Why isn't she braking? And why is she stepping on the gas instead?"
As the Maserati charged like a wild horse, it was too late for Jack to dodge. He was hit and flung several meters away, feeling like all his bones were broken as he coughed up blood.
"Shouldn't have targeted a female driver..."
This was his last thought before losing consciousness.
The accident drew a crowd, but no one noticed the fresh blood splattering on an ancient jade pendant on his chest, which was quickly absorbed.
Jack, an orphan, had been wearing this pendant since his mother adopted him, as it was his only keepsake.
He vaguely felt a warmth at his chest, followed by an explosion in his mind. "Descendant Jack Cooper, you shall inherit the legacy of my Ancient Medicine Sect!"
An old man in green robes with white hair appeared in his mind. "I am Connor Noble of the Ancient Medicine Sect. You must uphold our rules, heal the world, and practice medicine."
Then, a flood of information entered his mind—martial arts, medical techniques, mysterious practices, various skills... These merged with his memories, becoming as familiar as if he was born with them.
Meanwhile, the jade pendant grew hotter and eventually transformed into a robust flow of energy that entered his body, strengthening his muscles and bones, and healing his injuries.
Feeling extremely comfortable, Jack quickly fell asleep.
After an unknown amount of time, he regained consciousness in a hospital bed, with no pain. He felt stronger than ever, his muscles brimming with power.
All the medical and martial arts knowledge in his brain was crystal clear, proving it wasn't a dream. He indeed inherited the Ancient Medicine Sect's legacy.
"You're awake!"
A surprised voice rang in his ear, followed by the sight of a stunningly beautiful woman with long hair and a flawless face.
He was stunned, never having seen such beauty before, even surpassing television celebrities.
"I'm so sorry, my name is Jessica Howard. I just got my driver's license yesterday, and I never expected to hit someone today!"
Jack then remembered that this apologetic girl was the owner of the Maserati.
He bore no grudge against her; after all, it was his choice to scam. Instead, he felt grateful. If not for this encounter, he wouldn't have received the Ancient Medicine Sect's inheritance.
Seeing him silent, Jessica continued, "Don't worry, I'll take responsibility for hitting you. Just rest here, and I'll cover all medical expenses until you're fully recovered."
Impressed by her lack of arrogance, typical of wealthy families, Jack's opinion of her improved. "Thank you, I'm fine."
"I was scared to death yesterday. You were thrown so far away after being hit," Jessica said, patting her ample chest. "It's strange, the doctor said there's nothing wrong with you, just a concussion and you were temporarily in a coma. It's a miracle, my car is getting major repairs, but you're virtually unharmed, it's unbelievable."
Hearing the word 'coma', Jack was startled and asked anxiously, "How long was I unconscious?"
"About half a day," Jessica Howard replied. "The doctor initially said it would take 24 hours for you to wake up..."
"Half a day?" Jack suddenly sat up, his thoughts immediately turning to his critically ill mother in the hospital. He couldn't delay any longer.
Having received the legacy of the Ancient Medicine Sect, there was no one under the heavens whose medical skills surpassed his. He no longer needed other doctors for surgery. He could cure his mother's illness himself.
In his urgency, he grabbed Jessica's hand and asked, "Where are we?"
Startled by his reaction, Jessica replied reflexively, "This is the Central Hospital."
His mother was at South Lake Hospital, a distance away. Jack jumped out of bed, put on his shoes, and hurried out.
"Where are you going? The doctor said you need to rest..." Jessica called after him.
"I'm fine, just discharge me," Jack said, rushing out of the Central Hospital towards South Lake Hospital. On the way, he stopped at a pharmacy to buy a packet of silver needles, which he tucked into his pocket.
In the ICU of South Lake Hospital, the attending physician Sean Perry glanced at Helen Nelson's eyelids, then at the bedside monitor, and told the nurse Dora Scott, "The patient is confirmed dead, proceed with the next steps."
"Understood, Dr. Perry," Dora replied, taking a white sheet to cover the deceased.
Sean looked coldly at Helen lying on the bed, showing no regret or guilt.
"If her family could have paid 50,000 dollar for the surgery, and I performed it personally, she might have had a chance to live. Sadly, she's poor and couldn't even afford that amount, so there's nothing to do but wait for death."
Just then, Jack rushed in and seeing Dora with the white sheet, shouted, "Stop, what are you doing?"
Dora, startled, stopped and said, "The patient is already dead..."
"Nonsense, my mother isn't dead!"
Jack, with the knowledge passed down from the Ancient Medicine Sect, quickly assessed Helen's condition. She was in a state of suspended animation, not truly dead.
He pushed Dora aside, took out the silver needles from his pocket, and swiftly inserted them into Helen's body.
