The Gift

I was shaken awake by Liam. He was already dressed to leave. I try holding back the tears, but they still come. He climbs back in bed and holds me close. I don't want to be apart again.
Liam: I know love. I don't want to go either.
Me: Then don't.
Liam: I wouldn't if I had a choice.
Me: Am I not important?
Liam: You are love. Don't ever think you aren't. Dad needs me though.
Me: I need you too.
Liam: I'll call you every night.
I roll over. My feelings aren't even being considered right now. He wraps his arms around me. He starts humming. The change in his voice stuns me.
Liam: You can push me a mile away

I slowly turned to look back at him. I had no clue he could sing like that. He looks at me the same way he always has. This time though, I think his eyes are holding back what he's always felt. It's my turn. I wipe it before it comes. I kissed him.
Liam: Before you ask, I didn't write that.
Me: Just hurry back home baby.
Liam: I will. I promise.
He gives me one more kiss before heading out the door. I walked him to the door. I waved him off. It's only two days. I should be fine.
It's been a week since Liam left on the business trip with his dad. Yeah, we were talking every day, but he told me only two days. I was outside sitting on the pier. I see Liam's car pulling up. As soon as I saw him step out, I ran into his arms. He gives me a big hug, and he swings me around. I got nauseous. He puts me down. I find a spot away from him and throw up. When I came back, he was smiling.
Liam: Boy, today was the day to come home. Is that what I think it is?
Me: I don't know. I'll take a test today.
Liam: I already bought some.
He's now dragging me back into the house. We go straight upstairs to our room. He opens the drawer revealing every pregnancy test brand ranging from $1-$20.
Me: Some huh?
Liam: Ok, maybe alot. I'm excited, hurry up please. Take three of them.
I take the three best tests and go to the bathroom. I get a cup and pee in it. I use the dropper and take each test. I empty the cup then dispose of it. Liam knocks on the door.
Liam: Is it OK to come in?
Me: Yeah.
He slowly opens the door and sees each test on the sink. He runs up eyeballing each one. He's like a kid in the candy store right now. There is more to this guy than him just being macho. He has so many sides to him. And most are only for me.
Me: There better not be a hidden motive behind having a kid.
Liam: Girasole, everything with me is done in the light.
Finally, the results start to appear. They are all positive. Liam's eyes light up like a kid in a candy store.
Me: Liam, I'll go to a clinic for a guaranteed result. These are just speculations. So don't get your hopes up.
Liam: Ok.
It's like it went one ear and out the other. He gets on his knees, starts rubbing my stomach and speaking to it. I just laughed. I let him. He looks so happy right now.
Me: Don't we have places to be? I have to meet up with the girls. Remember we only have 3 weeks left.
Liam: Right. Here are your keys. Will you go to the clinic before meeting up with the girls?
Me: Ok. You should rest.
Liam: I am. I'm exhausted
He hands me the keys and we head downstairs. He gives me a kiss.
Liam: I love you.
Me: I love you too.
Liam: Be careful.
Me: I will love.
I arrived at the clinic. I go in and fill out my paperwork. I was called back after a few minutes. I go through the process again as I did with Kai and the results are the same. Its positive.
Nurse: You're a week pregnant.
Me: Thank you. I just wanted to confirm.
She hands me a form that provides proof. I went back to the car and sent a picture of it to Liam. He calls me immediately. i can hear his excitement through the phone.
Liam: That's real?
Me: As real our love.
Liam: Yes! Dad and Gwen are gonna be so happy to hear the news.
Me: Let me guess dinner at the house?
Liam: No, this is 5-star restaurant news.
Me: So you do enjoy the perks of having a rich dad?
He laughs and we say our goodbyes. I drive back home. Liam is already outside. He runs up and gets ready to swing when he stops himself. He grabs the paper, beginning to read over it. His eyes light up.
Liam: I want a girl. That way, she looks just like you, and she's a daddy's girl.
Me: I want a boy so he looks like you.
Liam: Eventually, someone has to carry on the Elec name.
Me: Of course.
Liam: By the way, our reservation at Michella's is booked for eight tonight. So tell the girls. Hopefully you haven't spilled the beans yet.
Me: Nope. Quiet as a mouse.
Liam: Ok, well I gotta go talk to my dad I'll see you tonight. I Love you.
Me: I love you too. And don't you say a word either. If I gotta wait, you gotta wait.
Liam: Deal.
I see him off. I headed inside and started calling the girls to see if they were free to go dress shopping again. Of course, they all are, and I make my rounds to go pick them up. We went to a different dress shop halfway across town. Still no luck. We stop to have lunch. I can't stop smiling. Lilly taps me on the shoulder.
Me: What?
Lilly: What are you hiding Melly?
Me: Nothing.
Monica: She's lying. Spill it.
Me: Ok. Ok. Liam booked a reservation at Michella's for tonight.
Lilly: Nice. Expensive date.
Me: Actually, we're all going.
All: What?
Lilly: Why?
Me: That's the surprise.
I laugh at their reaction because they start scoffing and rambling about why they're invited. We finished up lunch and I dropped them off at home. When I get home, it's about 5pm. Liam still isn't home. I decided to take a nap before dinner.
My alarm wakes me up at 7pm. I stretched and went to the bathroom, only to find Liam in the shower already.
Me: Liam?
Liam: Hey, I was going to wake you up after I got out.
Me: What time did you get home?
Liam: Like fifteen minutes ago. Why?
Me: Nothing.
He cuts the shower off and puts a towel on. He walks up to me and kisses me. It's like he read my mind.
Liam: Only you get to touch me if that's what you're thinking.
So far, he's given me no reason not to trust him. I took his word and started to get ready to get in the shower. After showering, I get dressed in a black evening dress. Liam comes up behind me and wraps his arms around me.
Liam: Pure beauty.
Me: Oh hush.
I put on my finishing touches, and we left to meet up with everyone at the restaurant. Everyone is dressed in dresses and dress pants. We all greeted each other, then headed inside.
