A phone rings. Stepping out of the steamy shower, Arcana picks it up while wiping away the fog in her bathroom mirror and looking into it to stare at her reflection. She had shoulder-length semi-curly hair that was dark brown. Dark eyebrows in a very alluring shape that most women would pay good money to tattoo on their face. She looked more mature and she liked that about herself. She's even grown quite fond of her pastel purple eye color that seem to sparkle in the sunlight. 'Boy, time really does fly by fast' she thinks to herself, having already celebrated her 22nd birthday last month. She picks up her phone without looking at the number. It's Devon. She rolls her eyes a bit but answers anyway as she finishes getting ready and runs out the door of her spacious loft, noticing how late she is.
"Hello?"
"Hey, running late again? I was hoping we could have a quickie before this morning's meeting", Devon says, with what sounded like a hint of disappointment.
'Ugh, here we go again' she mouthed to herself so he wouldn't hear her. "Yeah, Sorry, I'm on my way now though, so maybe we can have that quickie after lunch or something. I should be there in a few minutes. One of the perks of living near work is that it's not SO bad if I'm late." she chuckles through the phone. She could tell Devon was rolling her ayes at this, but so more because he wanted to have his morning quick with Arcana and that wasn't possible today.
Not focusing too much on this, she clocks in to work and gets ready at her station. She enjoyed being a research assistant in her buildings' astronomy department in New York. She was smart enough for the potential to do much more, but she just never felt like applying herself, so she always did just enough to get by. Not to mention she was well off financially, so she didn't have to push herself. 'Ahh, the life of a trust fund baby.' She was always thankful that her parents were able to give her such an easy-going life. It allowed her to be as care free as she wanted. Although some of her peers may have resented her for that, whether they did or not wasn't any of her business and she certainly wasn't going to rub it in their faces either. As far as she knew, she was young, single, attractive, had a stable job, a super comfortable home, and smart enough to know where to put her talents. What's there to stress about?
The Astronomy Department's Research team consists of 5 people in total. Arcana, Devon, whom Arcana occasionally sleeps with because a woman has needs, so why not? Devon works across from Arcana. Even though he wears glasses, he's quite handsome and wears his glasses well. He's taller than Arcana although if you look at it, almost anyone is. Arcana is only 5'2. Devon is a whopping 6'3. Aside from being good in bed and smart, she liked that he was tall. Devon had sandy blond wavy hair, and bright blue eyes. On days he wore his contacts, you could just his bright blue eyes and they were quite beautiful. Jesse's station was right next to Devon, so naturally they became quite close. 'Work bros' if you will. Jesse was handsome as well and around the same height as Devon, maybe an inch or two shorter or taller. Their height always starts a debate match between colleagues. He had dark brown slicked back hair, green eyes, and freckles that contrasted quite well against his olive-colored skin. Jesse looked as though he had spent the summer in the Mediterranean all year round.
Across from Arcana sat Scarla. Arcana and Scarla didn't really get along, but they also weren't rivals either. It was a weird and complicated work relationship and Arcana never really understood the unspoken tension between the two of them. Scarla had jet black hair that was straight. Arcana always wondered if it was naturally that straight or did she have to straighten it every morning? She always wore a fierce red lipstick with a matching glamorous outfit and heels, making anywhere and everywhere she walked her personal runway. Arcana laughed to herself whenever she thought about Scarla's sense of fashion. 'She knows where to put her talents'. Scarla was as smart as she was fashionable and that woman could dress. She too, like Jesse, had green eyes, but Scarlas green eyes were a bit darker in comparison to Jesse's light green eyes. Arcana could never tell if it was the lighting or if it was something...else. Aside from that, she was average height without heels, about 5'5 with a perfectly placed beauty mark on the left side of her chin.
Ama's station was located over by a large window that faced the testing room. She had more personal space than her other colleagues, and with her recent added stress of wedding planning due to being newly engaged, her and her co-workers were grateful that Ama had all that extra space for wedding books and what not. Ama had strawberry blond curly hair which complimented her quite well. She was also tall and slim and wore glasses. She had big brown eyes and freckles all over her face. She looked adorable in a sexy kind of way. Arcana enjoyed looking at her from time to time. She was also sweet, but didn't allow anyone to walk all over her, which was very respectable in Arcanas eyes.
Another day of work had come and gone and Arcana was looking forward to spending a quiet Friday evening drinking tea on her balcony with a nice blanket and some steamy smut on her iPad. It was her favorite way to relax. Seeing as she lived a few minutes from her work building, it would take her about 5 or so minutes to walk to get home. As Arcana walked out of the building and turned from view, Devon quickly packed up his things and sprinted after her trying not to be obvious of his weekend plans. Scarla had her eye on Devon and was hoping she could catch him on his own to finally confess her feelings towards him. Devon sprinted after Arcana and Scarla sprinted after Devon. Scarla stopped in her tracks. She got half way out the building's main door when she noticed Devon and Arcana up ahead. She froze. Devon had put his arm around Arcana's shoulder as they walked to the loft together. Jealousy and rage rose up inside Scarla. She turned around and headed back towards the building to pack up her things to spend a weekend wallowing in self pity.
