They're mine," I said smoothly, stepping in front of the twins to block Lucian's view. "And their family history is none of your concern, Alpha Lucian."
Lucian's eyes flared with a dangerous mixture of disbelief and possessive Alpha aura. "None of my concern? Ayla, he has my pack's birthmark! Look at them—they have my eyes! How old are they?"
"Four," Caelan interjected, stepping up beside me with a cold, towering presence. "And as leader of the Nightshade Alliance, I suggest you lower your tone in front of our children."
Our children. The words hit Lucian like a physical blow. Staggering back half a step, he looked from Caelan to me, his jaw clenching so hard a muscle twitched violently in his cheek.
"You replaced me with him?" Lucian rasped, his voice dropping into a low, menacing growl. "You had my heirs and handed them to a rogue?"
"You rejected me, Lucian," I reminded him, my voice razor-sharp and unwavering. "The moment you declared me wolfless and threw me out into the snow, you forfeited any right to my life, my future, or my family. You are nothing to them."
Leo peeked around my waist, his little brows furrowing at Lucian. "You're the mean Alpha from Mommy's old stories. We don't like you."
Lucian flinched as if struck, his gaze dropping to the boy. The heavy realization of what he had thrown away five years ago seemed to crush him right where he stood.
Before he could speak again, a loud siren echoed across the Crescent territory, blaring frantically from the watchtowers.
A guard sprinted up the stairs, blood staining his armor. "Alpha! The rogue vanguard just breached the southern gate! They brought dark-magic disruptors—our warriors can't shift!"
