"Oh is that how it is now? I have bad taste, huh? Bad taste in what, Kayara?" Sophie asked, with a faint smile on her lips and hands folded in front of chest.
Kayara jolted with the sudden appearance of Sophie but collected herself in a second, "Yeah, you have very bad taste when it comes to guys. That Alexander Smith of yours, who made him a business man? And which blind person said that he was handsome? If I would have been his interviewer I wouldn't have even given him the job of a bartender," Kayara said, turning to face Sophie. "Just tell me one thing. What do you like in him?"
"Wait Kayara, Didn't you already make him a bartender before?" Anna stated matter-of-fact and laughed out loud.
"Why are you getting so worked up and cursing that handsome young man, Kayara? He is such a sweetheart," Sophie asked with a frown. " And from where this topic started between you?"
"Pfft... Kayara bumped into him while we were going to Prof. Christin. And don't call him handsome in front of her, Sophie. I know you like him and all, but for Kayara he's the ugliest guy in the world. Kayara even mistook him as a bartender. Didn't you know?" Anna teased,
"What do you mean?" Sophie frowned.
"I mean to say that the Alexander whom Kayara met at the party was not actually a bartender. He was actually the same guy as this one. Your crush," Anna blurted, only to regret it later.
Sophie gave her a questioning look to know what she just said was true or not.
Understanding her gaze, Anna decided to explain now, "Remember the day when we attended the birthday party of Mr. Smith?"
Sophie nodded.
"That day, our Kayara met Alexander and mistook him as a bartender. Later when we got to know that you like Alexander Smith and that he was your childhood crush, we searched his social media accounts. This way we found that the so-called bartender was actually the same great businessman Alexander Smith."
Sophie's heart stopped for a second…and started pounding as she heard this. Kayara and Anna hadn't realized this blunder yet, but Sophie had caught on to it.
'It means the person who proposed to me was my childhood crush,' Sophie realized, 'If the great businessman and that bartender was the same person then your Alexander was ths one who proposed you. You are such a fool Sophie, to reject his proposal without even knowing who it was.' she regretted that decision of hers in mind.
"So…so…the proposal I rejected before was from my crush, right?" Sophie squeaked, unable to control her excitement.
Kayara and Anna got startled and choked, finally realizing what they had done.
"No...no, actually Sophie you are getting everything wrong," Kayara tried to say.
But again, Anna butted in before Kayara could say anything.
"Yeah, the proposal you rejected was from your crush Alexander. Now take your time and regret your decision, but please not here. You can do it later at home. Let's go home. I'm hungry," Anna tapping her tummy in round circles and making cute puppy eyes.
It was 7 PM when their cab finally arrived. In the cab, Sophie sat in the passenger seat while Kayara and Anna were on the back seats.
The three of them fastened their seat belts and the driver shifted the gear. They were on their way home.
"Hey, I couldn't understand one thing. Why is Kayara so angry with him?" Sophie asked the two behind her. " Did you two argued over something?"
"Because God made him the only person on earth for her to bump into. Haha…this is what annoyed Kayara," Anna laughed still in the teasing mood.
"Shut up," Kayara snapped at Anna, then leaned forward on her seat, "I'll tell you why I'm so angry with him once we reach home."
Sophie nodded and adjusted herself to a more relaxed position on her seat. She put on her earphones as she wanted something fresh to feel better after this tiring evening. Those three hours of paperwork were more tiring for her than attending classes for a whole day as she had to wait in the long queue of others who hadn't registered. Deep inside, a bubbling sensation was rising in Sophie. She was very happy after getting that piece of news and without her realising a faint smile flashing on her lips.
Anna also closed her eyes and rested her head on the headrest of the seat.
But Kayara was still anxious and feeling uneasy. After making sure that Sophie couldn't hear them, she leaned towards Anna and elbowed her to make her open her eyes.
"Ouch…what happened? Don't disturb me. Let my poor eyes take some rest," Anna whined without opening her eyes.
Kayara couldn't help but grit her teeth and murmur in a low voice furiously, "Why the hell did you stop me from telling the truth to Sophie?"
"So you want to hurt her…huh?" Anna asked without opening her eyes.
Anna's question made her more irritated. "When did I say this? I'm asking why you stopped me from telling her about our prank and that Alexander wasn't the one," she pestered one, adamant for an answer.
Anna had already known that Kayara was planning to tell everything about their prank to Sophie at that time, so she had intentionally stopped her .
"If you would have told her all the truth, what reaction do you think she would have had? Wouldn't it have hurt her if she knew we made fun of her feelings even tho that wasn't our motto?" Anna opened her eyes to stare into Kayara's.
"You are right. But what if she finds it later? If she finds out the truth later on, it will be more painful for her than finding out about it now," Kayara argued, knowing that she was right.
Anna let out a deep breath and said, "Don't overthink it. We don't know what's going to happen in the future. In the future, if they will be together, then at that time this small truth will not matter to her. And unfortunately if they are not able to get along, then we will convince Sophie to forget Alexander and his proposal as a dream. Moreover who knows about this prank other than the two of us? No one will tell her if you and I keep quiet."
Kayara nodded then, and said firmly, "Fortune will have to support me. I will bring these two together, no matter what happens. I just want to see my friend happy."
Kayara wanted her friend to be with the love of her life. Not with anyone lesser than perfect. She never saw Sophie paying interest in this matter of love. And Kayara thought that love was something that could bloom one's life. No matter what happens now, she had to talk to Alexander. She can't force him to love someone but she could at least try to make him fall for her.
And for this, Kayara has to befriend him at any cost.
