On the other side, the rest of Alex and Jacob's journey was silent. Alex's car rolled into their mansion and parked it in the lot.
The moment the car stopped, Jacob jumped out of it like a monkey, shut the door, and ran to the driver's side door before Alex could come out. Jacob just couldn't control his curiosity after that devastatingly silent ride. His gossiping stomach starved for something juicy. Alex, who was still in his car, noticed Jacob's antics from the other side of the window. He sighed and came out of the car.
"Brother, that girl...."
"Shut up, don't forget your promise. Don't show me your face for the next twenty four hours," Alex cut him off and ordered in his stern and cold voice.
"But at least..."
"Your time starts now." With his brother's condescending reply, Jacob made a long, sullen face. Alex realized that this drama queen was up to something so he turned to leave and a small smile appeared on his lips.
"Silly boy," he mumbled and left.
Poor Jacob. He saw his brother's retreating silhouette with a mind full of unsolved queries. It's not like that he was unaware or unknown to his brother's nature, he was simply confused about how Alex's behavior changed in front of that girl. His brother never showed that charming, playful smile to anyone as he always acted mature guy. But in front of her, it came out naturally.
He also guessed what his brother's feelings for her were but then again, he wasn't hundred percent sure, because in his past twenty two years with his brother he never saw him interested in any girl. Alex always made sure to avoid girls. Then what was so special in her? Why does his otherwise cold hearted brother become a total softie and teasing in front of her?
Jacob shook his head to throw out these unanswered questions and followed his brother to their mansion.
...
"What are you thinking, Kayara?" Anna asked, sitting beside Kayara, who was lost in a train of her own thoughts. With Anna's question Kayara blinked and broke from her trance.
"Ahh, Nothing much. I was just thinking about our lives," Kayara said and leaned forward to put her head on her knuckles with the elbows resting on her thighs.
"Our lives? Means?" Anna asked in confusion.
"I mean, I was thinking about all the strange incidents happening to us this week."
"Kayara, can you say it clearly? I don't quite get what you're talking about."
"Think about the things that happened in these days," she groaned, "From our prank with Sophie to that so called businessman Alexander."
"Oh my God, Kayara. You are thinking too much. Just chill dude. It was just a small prank. Nothing strange, so don't stress yourself. Okay?" Anna coaxed her.
"Yeah. I might be thinking too much. You are right," Kayara flushed a smile.
"That's my girl... Now let's go and see what our lady devil is doing in her room for this long."
"Hmm, let's go."
Despite all the fun, teasing and entertainment, Kayara felt some unease deep in her heart. Her soul was crying and screaming inside her body, telling her that the things happening around them were not right. She must stop all these things otherwise all of them will have to face dire consequences in the future. But she chose to ignore this unease, simply ticking it off as overthinking. She took a deep breath to calm her mind and followed Anna to Sophie's room.
Sophie was writing something in a diary with so much concentration that she didn't notice them entering. Seeing her lost in her own world, Anna coughed loudly to drew her attention towards them.
"Looks like our lady devil is busy writing a long and romantic love letter for her dream boy in advance with this level of concentration," Kayara teased Sophie.
Hearing Kayara's voice Sophie jolted and turned around to see them standing near her room's door.
"Hmm...And as we are her friends she should show us what she wrote so that we can help her, right Kayara?" Anna said and Kayara nodded. As Sophie was sitting on the chair facing her back to door, Kayara and Anna couldn't see what she was doing.
When Sophie saw both of them closing in her, she hastily closed her diary and shoved it in the side drawer with lightning speed
"It was not a love letter. And I'll make sure to take your help when that time comes. Now both of you go back and don't disturb me," she ordered. Kayara and Anna had reached her and were standing on either side.
"Ohh…stop lying. If it wasn't a love letter then why are you hiding it from us?" Anna said.
"We know very well what it is. If you don't want to show us your love letter then you can directly refuse it in our faces, there is no need to lie," Kayara said with puppy eyes.
Sophie knew that Kayara was just acting, so instead of coaxing her she said, "Okay, sorry for lying," she said with the same puppy tone, "I'll keep it in mind for next time. Now you can leave as I don't need any help right now."
"You liar..." Kayara chuckled, "Let me see." Saying that, she pulled out the drawer and took the diary in half a second. The drawer didn't even have a lock.
Before Sophie could understand what she was up to, her diary was in Kayara's hands.
"You lied to us. We will see it ourselves," Kayara said and ran outside the door followed by Anna.
Realizing what had just happened, Sophie shot up and ran behind them. 'No, I can't let them see my personal diary,' she thought, fear spreading in her heart. It started pounding harder as she chased Kayara through the house.
"STOP!! KAYARA I'M WARNING YOU GIVE MY DIARY BACK. I SAID STOP," Sophie shouted.
Kayara and Anna were running here and there in the living room while taking turns and passing the diary to each other. They didn't notice that Sophie was in extreme pain and tears were falling from her eyes.
Sophie felt that she couldn't catch them and her knees were becoming weak. In the middle of the chase, she faltered and fell on the couch behind her.
When Kayara saw Sophie falling on the couch she thought that she was just acting. "Sophie, stop acting. I'm not going to fall for your trap," Kayara chuckled.
But after a few moments when Kayara didn't notice any movement she realized that there was something wrong. She forgot everything and ran towards Sophie. "Sophie..."
She sat on the couch and put her head in her lap.
"Sophie, what happened? Open your eyes," Kayara patted her cheeks in worry. But when she didn't move at all, Kayara's heart trembled in fear. "Anna…call the doctor. Hurry up."
Anna, who was standing beside them with the diary in her hands, ran to Sophie's room as she had left her phone on Sophie's table when they were teasing her. She put the diary back on the table and dialed the doctor's number in hurry.
...
In a while, the doctor arrived. Kayara and Anna had together managed to lay Sophie in her bed. Anna led the doctor to the room, where Kayara was sitting beside Sophie on one side of her bed.
After completing his checkup, the doctor said, "There is nothing to worry about. She is fine now. She just passed out because of a sudden increase in stress."
"When will she wake up doctor?" Kayara asked.
"I already gave her an injection to make her feel better. She will gain her consciousness in two or three hours."
Kayara let out a breath which she didn't know she had been holding from how long, "Thank you doctor."
"Hmm…I'll take my leave then."
"Come. I'll see you off," Anna called the doctor and she left the room with the man following her out.
