"Two soulmates but one will be a danger to my life?" Daphne repeated after the gypsy lady said surprised, pulling her hand aways from her. "But I have a boyfriend whom I know is my soulmate, I think you're a fraud" she added. "He's not the one for you. Be careful with that one, he's gonna hurt and lead to your downfall. Which will lead you to your soulmates" the gypsy lady said smiling. "I don't believe you," Daphne said and stood up to go and looked at her friend "let's go Ariana" she said to her friend. She dropped the reading payment on the table and picked her bag. The gypsy lady didn't say a word, she just smiled and shook her head. "What the hell Daphne? you didn't have to be this rude because you didn't like what the lady's said" Ariana said with a scoff as they came out of the shop. "Yeah whatever. You know Maxwell means the world to me" Daphne replied. "Besides, it was your idea to come and get a palm reading from a gypsy. I hope she didn't put a spell on us" she added, frowning. "And two soulmates? Come on! That's ridiculous" she said, folding her arms. Ariana looks at her and laughs. "But you do know that people do have two soulmates right?" She asked her. "Wait. Really?" She stops and looks at Ariana. "Well I don't care. Maxwell is my only soulmate" she said, smiling with a blush. "Oh wow! Someone is blushing just thinking about Maxwell. Oh! My friend is in love everybody" Ariana teased her. "Stop it Ariana" Daphne said and gently pushed her. "You're noisy" "Isn't that why I'm your best friend?" Ariana teased again. Daphne made a funny face with her tongue out "whatever" she said. "Quite unfortunate I didn't get to have a reading because someone became grumpy" Ariana said sighing. "Oh yeah. Sorry about that. But I saved you from being given a fake reading apparently" Daphne said "Let's hurry we have Prof. Prinston in 20 minutes" Daphne said looking at her time. "True! Let's hurry" Ariana said. They rushed to the bus station. The road was busy but they were able to get a bus that took them to campus. **** **** **** Daphne was coming back from the mall with a grocery bag and another with designer clothes in it. Her hands were full. She crossed to the other side of the road so she could stop a cab that would take her to the student residence. She was still walking when she saw a man being seriously beaten by some group of men at an alley. She stops to look in shock. She was terrified to move. She held tightly to the bags in her hand. Another man who looks like the lead brought out a gun and shot him in the leg. She got startled and gave out a shout. She immediately covered her mouth and couldn't move. The leader turns and looks at her. He starts to walk towards her while he puts back the gun in the back of his pants. She took a step backward trembling with her hands still covering her mouth. He kept moving towards her. "What the hell are you looking at huh? You lost baby girl?" The leader asked. "Where do I know this voice from" she thought to herself looking at the man walking towards her. There was a light lamp in the alley. As he got closer she was able to see his face because he stopped right under the light. She gasped and used the bags to cover her face. "Carlos Sabastian?" she said, terrified. "Did you say something?" he asked, standing some feet away from her. "You shouldn't be here" he added and reached for his gun to scare her. She took some more steps backwards and started running as fast as her feet could carry her. Carlos looks at her running so fast and scoffs. He didn't try to run after her. He just turned around and went back to where his men were and continued beating the man till he passed out. He gets up and spit on him. "Bastard! you think you're going to run with my money huh?" he said and angrily hit him one last time. He dialed 911 before leaving the man with his men. Daphne, still shaking, tries to stop a cab. She keeps looking back to make sure she is not being followed. She flagged a taxi that was coming towards her and immediately entered. She gets out of the taxi and runs to her room. She closes the door and locks it behind her, hardly breathing. "Gosh Daphne! You scared me" Ariana said, startled. She was getting dressed. "Why are you breathing this hard?...Are you okay?" She asked, confused, looking at the door. She goes to open it but Daphne stops her. "No no no don't, please" Daphne rushed to stop her still breathing hard. She removes her hand from the door and leans with her back on it. "Don't open it please". "What is it Daphne? You're scaring me" Ariana said, holding her hand trying to calm her. "Can you calm down please" she said with a soft voice trying not to freak out. Daphne looks at her. She sighs as she goes to sit on her bed. She looks tired and still trying to catch her breath. "I saw some group of men…they…they looked like a gang or something. They were beating a man and…and" she said breathing hard as she made some gestures with her hand."I...I...I think the leader or something sho…sho…shot him in the leg Ariana" she said in tears as she looked at Ariana. Ariana became scared and more confused. "What?" She stands up and locks the windows. "Did they see your face?" Ariana asked, startled as she sat back and hugged her. "What? No no I ran off as soon I heard the gunshot" she said shaking her head. "Ok, ok…that's good" Ariana said, pacing the room. "They didn't see your face so you…I mean we are safe" "Did they follow you?" Ariana stopped pacing to look at her. "What? No. You think I'll be here if they did? I don't think they did. They were too busy trying to beat the hell out of that man to even follow me" she said. She takes off her shoes and climbs onto her bed. Ariana nods "okay. That's good" she looks at her friend who is still shaking out of fear. "Aww! I'm so sorry you had to see that Daph…I can't really imagine how you feel right now" Ariana said sitting next to Daphne as she petted her hair. Ariana got on the bed with her and hugged her. Daphne didn't say a word but she kept thinking. "What kind of life is Carlos into? How did he become this cruel? It's a good thing he didn't see my face" she fell asleep with these thoughts. She got startled at the sound of her phone ringing early the next morning. She sits on the bed as she looks at the caller ID. She picks the phone rubbing her eyes. "Hey babe" the sound of Maxwell's voice on the other line said. "Hey! Good morning baby" she said smiling as she tried to shake the sleep off her eyes. "Good morning honey. Did you sleep well?" He asked "Yes I did. You're up already?" She asked, looking at her time. "Yes. I wanted to let you know that I'll be going to see my folks today and we wouldn't be meeting for the weekend…I'm sorry" he said with a sad voice. "So I don't get to see you even for a minute?" She asked, pouting. "No honey. I think it's urgent" he said. "Oh it's ok," she said, yawning as she sat up on the bed. "So I'll see you when I get back on Monday?" He asked. "Yeah sure. Take care" "You too. Love you" he said "Yeah, love you too" she answered as she hung up. She drops the phone and gets off the bed. Stretched a little and headed to the bathroom.
