Victoria Becker narrating:
Never say there's something bad that can't get worse.
Well, there is.
I was already at the end of the third month of pregnancy, the belly was already showing.
I decided to raise my baby, I was scared, but all that went away the moment I heard her heart beat for the first time, it was so emotional.
I already loved that little thing growing inside of me.
Things were difficult, my father was taking more drugs than before, my work was very heavy, and I was more tired than usual.
The doctor said I was a little underweight and that it could harm the child, she also told me to take it easy at work and if I could avoid stress it would be even better, but how am I going to avoid this in the situation I live in? Every five steps I take, some problem appears.
Just yesterday a merchant arrived at my house demanding that I pay for something my father had stolen from his establishment, I was so pissed off.
But I didn't pay at all, after all, I wasn't the one who stole it, he's the one who covers the person who committed the crime.
And to make matters worse, I just found out that Joana is going to travel to study abroad, she's going to Texas, and it's almost a day trip from Los Angeles there. It's too far for those who don't have money, or transportation, and much less time.
We've cried together and talked a lot, she's very indecisive and doesn't want to go because she doesn't want to leave me alone, that's unfair, I can't ruin her chance to have a future.
*Flashback on*
— My boo —she said, approaching.
I had just left an appointment she had accompanied me to, we were talking as we walked back to her house.
— Yes?
— I have to tell you something — she said, stopping to walk.
— Talk — I said, approaching and holding her hand.
—My parents want me to go to study in Texas — she said — at Texas tech university, my parents graduated there, and now they want me to graduate too. But I don't want to let you...
— Do you want to study there? — I asked.
— Yes, but...
— No but, if you want, go ahead —I hugged her— you've always supported me in everything I've done, and you've always been by my side, now the time has come for me to do the same, go after your dreams, I'll be fine.
— Vic...
— Joana, I want you to go there and study to become the pediatrician you dream of so much in the future —I said— in the future I want to have free appointments when I take my baby.
— You gold digger —she said, making me laugh.
— Seriously, I want you to be happy, I'll never forgive myself if you stay —I said, looking into his eyes— let's see each other on your vacation and we'll be fine.
— Are you sure?
— Clear.
We hugged and let a few tears fall, I want the best for her and I would never forgive myself if I prevented her from going to accomplish what she so desires.
Even more so there are her grandparents who are from Texas, and she hasn't seen them for a long time, I would be very selfish if I stopped that.
*Flashback off*
She will travel in three days, we had an early farewell because I will be working, and I won't be able to go see her.
She also gave me all my savings that she kept, I already have plans for this money, I will use it to pay for consultations and several other things related to my baby, I will not think about the future, for now I will manage on my own that I can.
[...]
I put on the huge sweatshirt before leaving the room, this was one of the tricks I used to hide my belly, so my dad didn't see it.
But he doesn't even stop at the house, it's basically been three days since I've seen him, on the one hand, it's good, but on the other hand, I'm worried.
I locked everything and went to work, everyone there already knows, after all, it's hard to hide from them since the uniform is very tight, everyone was in shock, but they got used to it.
Apart from my boss who said that my days there were numbered, I already knew that this would happen, but until that day arrives I will go to work.
I also know that I can earn good money for being fired, but knowing George, he will do everything for me not to get any money from him.
— Good morning — I speak as soon as I see Den.
— Good morning.
We didn't talk much because soon the customers started arriving, I served some and the first thing they do is look at my belly, sometimes I see them wondering about my age.
I don't care about that, I'm used to it.
"fitzy technology will expand, a new branch is being built in Holland —said the reporter on the snack bar's small television— the CEO Marius fitzy gave us an interview talking about his investment and several other subjects commented by the businessman".
I watched at the TV at the sound of a voice I had heard before, and my eyes widened.
It's him, the guy from the club and the father of my child.
He owns fitzy technology... my God. My son's father is a billionaire.
— This man is every woman's dream — I heard one of the customers say.
— I would do anything to sit on this man, —said another.
— I'm more like his brother, Cristian — I heard another woman say.
I left and walked to the Den with the customer's order and handed it over.
— Looks like you saw a ghost — he said.
— No, I saw the solution — I said.
If I find this guy, he can help me... at least take care of our son.
So I continued working, but always with that man in my thoughts, at lunchtime I'll go to that company, he needs to know as soon as possible.
When lunchtime arrived, I told them I would leave quickly, and so I ran as fast as I could, the company wasn't too far away, luckily for me.
I looked at the big sign "fitzy technology" the building was huge, I walked to the entrance going towards the reception.
— Good morning — I said.
— Good morning — replied the receptionist. — what do you want?
— I want to talk to Marius fitzy.
— Mr Fitzy isn't here — she said.
— Please, it's urgent — I pleaded.
— Sorry, miss, but I really can't do anything.
— Lídia, can you tell me if my father has already arrived? — Said a brunette with blue eyes, stopping beside me.
— Yes, Mr. Cristian —replied the girl.
— Are you Cristian fitzy? —I asked, I remember one of the girls talking about a certain Cristian, Marius' brother.
—Yes, what you want —he said.
— I urgently need to talk to your brother, please — I begged.
— My brother traveled — she said.
— Do you have a phone number or any other way to reach him? Is urgent.
— What would a waitress have so important to talk to my brother? —he said, looking at me from top to bottom— go away, this is not your place.
So he left, and I saw the receptionist look at me with pity, what gave me the head to come here? What if Marius is just like his brother and also humiliates me? So I left that place, I'll have to go through this alone...
