CHAPTER 16

1013 Words
Arriving at the office, Carmilla notices that Rachel has been waiting anxiously for them. “ Put him on the line” Harrison orders. Rachel responded picking up the phone and dailing the familiar number. After a moment, she handed the phone over to him. “ Alex?”, said Harrison into the phone. “ Hey man”, Alex's voice came through the line. “ I've got some great news. Ive managed to recover the missing part of the CCTV footage. Trust me I didn't understand what I was watching either”. Harrison's eyes met that of Carmilla's and he could see the curiosity there. “ What did you find?” He asked Alex. “ I'd rather you see it for yourself. Is it possible for you to come to my office now?...once you're here I'll show you the footage”. He responded. “ I'll be on my way”, Harrison said, desperately as he hungs up the phone. “ Rachel, we will be heading over to Alex's office. Can you handle the work here?”, he asked hurriedly, grabbing his things and that of Carmilla's. “ Don't worry about things here, I've got it covered. I'll also report to Crystal if there is any difficulties”. Said Rachel. “ Great! Let's go, Carmilla”, he said leading Carmilla out of the office. Heading out of the office, they walked towards the parking garage where the car was packed, and as always the driver is always waiting Incase his needed. Reaching the car, Harrison told him, “ Joe, we need to head to Alex's office”, said Harrison as they both entered the car. Joe responded, typing the address into the GPS. ‘ 1350 Avenue of the Americas’, “ Got it, sir. We'll be there in 10 minutes, depending on traffic”. As the car pulls out from the parking garage, Carmilla turns to Harrison, her her looking like one ready to bombard him with questions. “ So, what the fuse all about? And why we in such a hurry to Alex's office?”. Harrison's expression turns serious. “ Alex was able to recover the missing footage, he requested that I come watch it personally. It looked like it was not something to be discussed on the phone”. “ What if there is no lead after watching the footage” asked Carmilla, with her face starting to wear a bit of disappointment. “ We can't be sure. Alex seemed pretty adamant about it. Let's just hope it gives us some answers”, said Harrison, trying to reassure her. Their car navigated through the busy streets of Manhattan, passing by towering skyscrapers and bustling sidewalks. They turned onto the 6th Avenue, and soon the iconic skyscrapers of Midtown Manhattan came into view. Approaching 1350 Avenue of the Americas, Harrison could see the sleek modern building that housed Alex's office. The car then pulls up to the entrance, and Harrison and Carmilla stepped out ready to face whatever the CCTV footage had in store for them. ALEX'S OFFICE “ Hey man. Sorry for the urgent call, I'm sure you had a lot to do”, Alex apologizes, shaking hands with Harrison as they all settled in his office. “ Rachel has everything covered up, besides this is more important right now” said Harrison unbuttoning his suit. Surprised about seeing Carmilla for the second time ‘ first which was at the wedding’, he extended his hands in greeting, “ Carmilla, how are you doing?”. “ I'm good”, replied Carmilla returning the hand shake. “ Thank you for getting the footage recovered”, Harrison greeted, looking round the office. “ Anything for you man”, Alex replied, moving the laptop closer to where Harrison and Carmilla were. “ So, what am I looking at?” Asked Harrison, as the laptop displayed a grainy CCTV feed. “ This particular footage from the security cameras is the one near your house”, Alex explains. “ It covers the time period when the delivery guy got to your house”, he added. Carmilla's eyes and face were all fixed on the screen. “ Go on and play it”, she requested. “ I think you'll see something…. unusual. Only you guys might know what it is, just watch”, Alex said. The footage began to play, showing a quiet suburban street. Cars drove and people walked down the sidewalk. Minutes later, the delivery guy shows up in a motorbike. Harrison's eyes narrowed. “ What is this?”. Alex leans forward, his eyes locked in the screen. “ That what I was confused about. The guy on the motorbike is not a delivery guy, which you guys assumed he was”. Carmilla noticing something weird speaks up, her voice barely above a whisper. “ It looks like…one if our servants”, but the video was all distorted and blurry. Harrison's face was grim as he pauses the video and zooms at the person. “ Do you recognize her”, he asks looking at Carmilla, to see her expression. “ She is wearing the attire of our servants….but I've never seen her before at the Harrington's mansion”, she responded, with confusion written all over her face. Alex now collected the laptop and reversed the video to the part the delivery guy arrived. The three of them sat in silence, watching the footage unfold on the screen, when instantly Harrison notices something he missed while watching previously. “ Wait, pause the video”, he orders, as Alex pauses it and zoom it for a clearer vision. “ The delivery was not with any package as at the time he arrived, but after meeting up with the servant he had it on him”, sitting in confusion. “ So what does that mean?”, Carmilla questions, staring at her husband. “ Maybe you guys are being watched”, Alex suggested.
