Chapter 4

Jason

Heart broken.

That's how I feel right now. To think my chance with her was taken away from me in a blink of an eye.

She was supposed to be my other half. I knew our Mating would not be welcomed but I never thought they could separate us.

I mean where I'm from I got the feeling that Mates were sacred, something the moon goddess put together and no-man shall put asunder, and all that crap. But now... Now I'm gonna be forced to watch my mate with another.

And with the way I'm built, I don't think I'll be able to ever get over it.

I feel a hand on my shoulder squeezing. "Hey bro, you okay?."

I laugh bitterly. "Of course I'm okay." I turn to my friend. "I just wasted a whole year without my Mate. And when I decide to tell her, she is already promised to another. And to top it off, I won't be able to bloody fight for her hand, cause as he eloquently put it, I'm a stupid Omega. Who just moved here, and TOO STUPIDLY WEAK TO FIGHT FOR HIS OWN MATE!!!" I finish at a shout.

I turn around and throw all my things at Sipho. "I'm going for a run."

"But you can't shift yet!" Sipho shouts at me.

"I'll manage!" I shout back already near the woods. I hear my car start and leave, which is a good thing because I was now on all 4's running full tilt through the forest at the back of the school heading home.

So the shifting thing...

Well it's like this. The Alpha is the most powerful of all. Stronger, faster, keen sense of smell everything about the Alpha is better than everyone, but even he can only shift 15 days a month, the 8th day being the full moon.

Then there is the heir apparent who is like the Alpha, but 5% less in some things.

Then we have the Beta, the second in command, who is 20% less stronger than the Alpha and only changes 11 days a month, the 6th being the full moon.

Then there is the Gamma, the third in command, who is 25% less stronger than the Alpha and only changes 10 days a month.

Then the General, the weapons master, who is 30% less stronger than the Alpha and only changes 9 days a month.

Then the sentinel, the soldiers of the pack, are 40% less stronger than the Alpha and only change 8 days a month.

Then the last are Omegas, the weaklings of the pack or new arrivals still to prove themselves, they are 50% less stronger than the Alpha and only change 7 days a month.

So since I'm an Omega, I don't understand why I can shift anytime I want. And since it's so abnormal, I haven't told anyone about it. Not even my parents.

And since I'm not a fighter, I've never tested how strong I am. So with me. I'm an Omega through and through. And I won't be able to get my Mate back.

I keep running until I hear the trumpets of the parade.

I run towards the noise and arrive to see my mate with another man on the float, just as the Alpha says that they are Mates. I howl, my hurt too much to contain

I hear a sad howl and just know that it belongs to Jason. Everyone else stops and stands still listening to the sad howl and look at where it is coming from.

I start to go down the float but Dominic pinches my side and I look at him with an expression that accompanies the howl.

"Please let me go to my true Mate." I ask with a small voice looking towards where Jason is about to come out.

"No, your father promised you to me, and I mean to have what I was promised." He says with a sneer.

"But I already found my Mate." At that point Jason comes out of the woods walking towards us with sadness in his eyes. A tear starts falling. "Please let me go" I say almost falling to the ground with the hurt.

"Please, my Mate needs me." I start struggling in his hold and see Jason starting to run towards us.

"Yes I do." He says loudly because people were starting to look between me and Jason. Then he whispers in my ear so no-one can hear him. "You stand here and smile at the crowd, or your precious Mate will take his last breath. Or better yet I should just kill him so you can only be mine."

I look at Jason and see soldiers going to intercept him. And they were Dominic's soldiers. I look at him with hate in my eyes. "If you harm him, I'll make your life a living hell."

"He is an Omega woman. How can you want such a weakling as your Mate?" He asks incredulously.

"Be that as it may, he is the love of my life, someone the moon goddess deemed worthy of me and you will not harm him."

"I will not harm him..." I start smiling and taking a step towards Jason when he finishes. "If you say I am your Mate, otherwise, prepare to see a dead Omega."
