Chapter 18

1000 Words
“…what will you achieve by doing that?” the girl asks. Well, he tried, egging her in telling everything that he wants to know since this method works on his childish cousin. Despite knowing that it would fail. Lindon is shocked at her sudden change of attitude. He concluded that she will not answer him but she defied his expectation and instead changed her tone instantly. “You can just say that my cousin and I are concerned about your health.” He answered. “I highly doubt that.” She bluntly retorts. This made him snicker instead. ‘Honestly, even I do not know why.’ he thought. From the time that he went out of their house just because his guts were telling him to go and stroll around. Thus, doing it until he suddenly could smell her from afar inside the cave. He assessed her and had concluded that she’s not an enemy, rather she’s injured and needed help. Even after that and he got busy with their mission along with managing his company, he felt uneasy somehow. That he should have been the one who’s nursing her back to health instead of his cousin but knowing that he’s better off in doing git himself since he’s clueless in that department. Now that he’s the one who’s taking care of her, this happened instead. A rather unexpected turn of events. “Why do you not trust me or Jasper?” Lindon asked. “You should know who took you in out of that forest and had taken care of you until you’ll get back to health.” He doesn’t like to put it like that but she didn’t give him any other choice but to use it. Now he’s feeling like a scumbag. “You’re just making it hard by stating that. I know that I’m in your debt but I won’t trust you to tell my story.” She stubbornly said. “But I got you to tell me even the slightest of it…” Lindon points it out. Diane could sense that his ego starts to inflate, making her unhappy that he’s right and is now proud of it. “Hey now, don’t frown. You should smile so that your face will be more beautiful.” He downright said and then suddenly stopped whatever he was doing. ‘What? Wait… what the heck did I just say?’ he asked himself, obviously shocked at his blunt words and what had those words meant. Lindon peeks at the now quiet girl, curious as to why she’s silent this time. His eyes stayed glued to her face. The pale-colored skin is now tinted with pinkish-red shades. From her cheeks to her ears and down to her neck. “Pretty.” His mouth blabbered unconsciously. Making him stiff more and the girl now shades more to red. ‘Damnit, get out.’ he said to himself. “Uh… I-I will be right back. The—the towel cabinet is empty… right.” Lindon lied, he got flustered and then dashed towards the door after. ‘What the hell was that!?’ he scolds himself once the door closed. Now slapping his mouth, repeating the word ‘i***t’ inside his mind. “Why the heck are you slapping yourself, man? And why is your face red?” that familiar voice came out of nowhere, making him jump at the sudden intrusion. “Why are you here man? it’s not even lunchtime! Go back to the company.” Lindon tried to scold his cousin who’s now having a smirk plastered on his face. “No, YOU’RE the one who’s needed in the company since today is signing day. I can’t do that since I’m not a CEO anymore.” Jasper said smugly. His head tilts upward, making his pointed nose pointier and the holes of his nose bigger. Sighing defeatedly, Lindon gives in. internally screaming ‘yes’ because he won’t be facing her again and continue their awkward moment. He’s now a little bit enthusiastic about doing his most hated work in owning a company; paperwork. “Fine, I’ll go. Anyway, go get a towel in the cabinet since the towels in her cabinet is empty. Her bath isn’t done yet.” He instructs. This time Jaspers eyebrow arch. “What do you mean her towel cabinet is empty? I just refilled it yesterday. Where would they run off to since they don’t have legs?” At that moment, loud laughter erupted through the other side of the door. Both forgot that they have an audience… but why would she laugh since she can’t hear? *** “Well?” Lindon asks his cousin once everything was done. “She seemed normal and by ‘normal’ I meant that she still doesn’t talk to me and has a straight face… BUT the gloomy atmosphere is not that strong.” After that incident, both of them decided to do their task first and then discuss after. Lindon called his secretary to just mail all of his paperwork to his house while Jasper went to bathe and have a nice chat with the girl. Now that Lindon is waiting for his paperwork, both of them now talk about the elephant in the room. “So… what do you think made her laugh out loud? It couldn’t be that she heard us… couldn’t it?” Jasper asks. “I mean, she didn’t even reply to whatever I said whenever I ramble so I assumed that she’s deaf… and mute.” Lindon hesitated when his cousin had pointed that out, making Jasper a little bit suspicious towards him. “What? Tell me.” Jasper demanded. And so, Lindon told his cousin what had happened earlier before he came home. “Uragirimono!” (translation: uragirimono= traitor/you traitor) Jasper shouts, bawling his eyes out while holding the shirt collar of his cousin. Lindon just rolled his eyes while his cousin dramatically cries and screams out his frustration. “Kono baka! Aho!” (translation: kono baka=this i***t/fool; aho=fool/i***t) Now this made Lindon a little bit angry since he somehow knew what Jasper is talking about. Making him smack his cousin’s forehead which Jasper had now let go of his shirt collar and falling down the kitchen floor. “Waaaaaah!” “Stop being a baby! And I told you to stop talking in Japanese!” Lindon shouts back, his hands akimbo. Looking down and watching his dramatic cousin who’s now rolling on the tiled floor of the kitchen holding his slapped forehead and screaming ‘yada’. (translation: yada= no/no way)
